How did you come up with the idea of Giana Sisters and why did you choose a femal hero?

Question: How did you come up with the idea of the soundtrack?

We wanted to do something different for the music. The boss of Rainbow Arts was a big fan of reggae music and Madonna. So one day he came by and asked me to do something like "True blue" from Madonna which I did and it became the theme title song. For the ingame music we made some reggae songs.

So we wanted to make it similar but not simply clone it. One thing we decided to do was to introduce a female hero rather than the typical male video game hero. We looked for a nice italian name "Giana" - giving birth to the "Giana Sisters".

Question: What do you think was responsible for the great success of the game?

It was a really well playable game, a nice Jump&run, easy to learn and was really fun. Basically that was the main reason.

Back then I worked for Rainbow Arts - probably the biggest software company in germany at that time - and we were working on all kinds of games. We also played many games in our free time and one game started to become really famous among us. It was an imported game from japan - Mario brothers!

We didn't hear anything about it before then but we were really excited about it and we came up with the idea to make something similar.

Find ich auch :) Die Musik ist aber nicht von Chris beim DS und iPhone Spiel, sondern von Fabian Del Priore. Basiert aber teilweise auf Chris' Originalmusik von 1987 :)

Interessantes Interview - Vor allem muss ich jetzt feststellen, dass ich den Namen 2 Jahrzehnte lang falsch aussprach, nämlich "Dscheijänna Sisters" - Aber Chris Hülsbeck wird ja am besten wissen, wie man's richtig ausspricht^^

Sehr schade auch, dass Armin Gessert vor wenigen Tagen viel zu jung verstarb.
