Installing FreeBSD 8 For Desktop (Gnome, Java Applet and Chinese Input Methods)

im using a dvd to install it , i load my /cdrom/packages/All/ but grep vim does not show ,what could be the problem ?

Did you receive any error messages while you cd into the directory and/or performing ls command?

@charray dont worry about that for now , i was able to install it on Vmware i was able to get X by using# pkg_add -r xorg ,but i have a problem configuring Xorg , im using my laptop Compaq Presario CQ20 card is GMA X4500 ,Chipset is Mobile Intel(R) 4 series Express Chipset Family ,i dont know the mode line or HorizSync and VertRefresh values for my laptop monitor ,please help

@dosejoke -- I seem to have the exact same problem.

I could not mount the drive using the mount command,

nor could I access the /cdrom/packages/All... hence

no grep vim for me :( I must of missed something here.

Its a great video... led me through the entire installation,

last night, and I have never installed BSD before... at

least I am at the command prompt.
