  • whats the time sig????

  • it's in four.

  • Definitely has some influence on Yo La Tengo...especially songs like Cherry Chapstick....it's amazing how long musical influences carry over into new decades and generations. Both songs are amazing, by the way :)

  • I saw Yo La a few weeks ago, it felt like being at a Sonic Youth show from 1991.

  • Well it's good to know that there are some really good bands with good tastes still rocking hard these days

    Rock on

    Party on

    Live on

  • Yo La Tengo formed only 3 years after sonic youth.

  • dude this is a song from the album "sonic nurse" not rather ripped why would you not know that??

  • lol hope youre joking!!:) i mean dont you know its from rather ripped? its one of the best songs of that record

  • no this is from Rather ripped silly boy

  • troll

  • what are you talking about?

  • It's on Rather Ripped dude. Sonic Nurse is far less poppy than Rather Ripped was.

  • I want this album!

  • I'm a new fan!

  • I <3 this song. Looking forward to seeing them in a couple weeks.

  • i dont understand why people get upset about people finding a great band after they have been around for a couple of years or even decades. Great music lives forever and will always attract new fans whether an 11 year old discovers them in 91 or 05!!! that is what makes a band great, the relevance of its music through different generations.

  • agreed....i wouldnt want anyone missing out on SY, the people who really like them will show, the ppl who like them because they have a shirt in urban will weed themselves out

but then again, who really doesnt like SY?

  • who the fuck is upset? it's somewhat like how you say, but we're happy we discovered them at a young age. better to discover whilst you're young than when you're old. It Means more time to enjoy and marvel at whatever it is you're getting into. of course though, better to discover them at any age than discover them at all.

  • lol i don't think it i would've kicked someone's ass over it, but i can somewhat understand why someone would do that, daydream nation is one of the best albums in my opinion.

  • I wrote the lyrics to this on my wall earlier today,

  • I do not care that people are just now finding out about a band years later. i have been listening to sonic youth since 91, i was 11... but i also got a few of my dads old albums that were old as hell, he didnt get mad at me for just finding out about his favs,... Sonic Youth has 2 of the greatest guitarists ever, and dont just go by me look it up.. they are on lists everywhere for all time greats on the axe... SY are the best.. Dino JR. and pavement too. as well..

  • You 29? Well cool note, I have been listening to Sonic Youth since 05, I was 11 too. Discovered them through my uncles album collection. Yeah, he kicked my ass because I scratched his daydream nation album. Well anyways, "incinerate" kicks ass.

  • Yup I bought daydream nation in '88, I still listen to it every week. One of the best indie albums ever. EVOL is good also, and sister.

  • i absolutely love daydream nation, but it is a bit harsh on the ears. I listen to it every once in a while

  • i Love [Le Melizé]

    <3 !!!

  • im 24 and i just heard this, this morning. im completely enthralled.

  • for me, he are the best band of the world!!!!

GO Sonic Youth....your song is wonderfull!!!

  • beautiful song. I have always liked sonic youth but this officially makes me a fan. Great stuff, thanks for posting this.

  • i love you maxichic

  • pararara pam parararaa pam pam pam pam paran pan pan cant get it out of my headddd

  • great song... great band... nowadays still making good songs.. not like all new crap bands or old ones that are only playing classics and making money..

  • i love all there songs

  • great drummer

  • shut up and listen

  • Is this band even capable of making anything substandard?

  • i love this song! I met them through Placebo *-*

  • placebo.??? Hahahhaa

  • if everyone that played gh and rb would spend that same time and effort learning how to play real instruments, we'd probably have a shit load of new music and talent out there. At least thats my opinion

  • lol, i agree with your opinion.

  • 'Irregardless' isnt a word, i don't mean to be pompous but seriously man, ITS NOT A FUCKING WORD!!

  • Clearly you do not have a grasp of the english language. Contractions are used to make new words, simply because your spell check says it isn't a word, doesn't mean it can't be a word. The definition of the word is obviously implied. You're not being pompous, you just look dumb.

  • It can't be a contraction as it is only one word, 'regardless', with the prefix 'ir' attached. I may not have the grasp an english teacher has of the language, but i quite clearly have a greater grasp than you if you think 'irregardless' is a word. Now shutupmate you utter fucking FASSY!!

  • Lol, you're right. I must've been high when I wrote that. It's not a contraction. It's a prefix. Still, irregardless is a word. It's a double negative, and means with regard.

  • irregardless is definitely not a word. The reason it's not is exactly because it's a double negative. you are wrong.

  • @kwiss it's a portmonteau of irrespective, and regardless, do you're right, not a real word

  • Oh okay. I guess 'not unnecessary' isn't a proper sentence structure either?

The english language is ridiculously malleable. You can change it however you want. Maybe your traditionalist mentality says it isn't a word, but if the semantic definition is expressed, well isn't that the purpose of a word?

Of course you're going to rebut this with some retarded 'no u.' I'm just telling you it IS a word, but you sound stupid when you use it.

  • lol i bet your proud buddy who didnt know nirvana before guitar hero like do you want a sticker?

  • cause and effect... people are tuned into cool music by a video game? Welcome, now pick up a real guitar and play!!!

  • Irregardless of where they are finding out about them, isnt the important thing is that they are "discovering" them at all?

Loved Sonic Youth for a long time, but if GH3 gives them more fans, then to me thats all good.

  • yeah but gh3 but kool thing as the sonic youth song

NOT SONIC YOUTHS BEST AT ALL

    kinda crap actually

  • yeah i agree with what your saying, thats what most people tell me when i bring up this debate, its good and it is making their fan base bigger, but the reason i originally got into sonic youth was not just cause of the music, it was also cause of how underground they were, and i guess now that they are getting bigger i am kind of bitter that i found out about them through actually buying their albums, but almost everyone i know found out about them because of this game, idk

  • "but the reason i originally got into sonic youth was not just cause of the music, it was also cause of how underground they were"

So why should anyone keep caring about your opinion about music? Try krautrock. It's already passé and you'll be able to display triple albums no one else owns. Cool as hell, uh? Or Redd Kross. It still has indie kudos and has not been covered by GH

@the rest: I first listened to this song in GH. Yup, I only have four Sonic Youth albums and this wasn't one of them

  • right on :) it shouldn't matter where someone was introduced to a band like Sonic Youth. Incinerate is on GH5

  • I first heard this on Guitar hero, shame on me yeah, and the first time I just concentrated on getting a good score but the second time I really listened to it and now I´m really digging it!!! I had it in my head all day today that´s why, such a superawesome song!!!

  • lol me too man!!!

I´ve already heard some sonic youth and I knew how important they were but this song is awesome.

The best song in this album

  • For first time listeners listen to their Daydream Nation album, of this one Rather Ripped both are fucking awesome

  • Why is everyone so stressed about guitar hero,

  • All I'm gonna say is that I met Sonic Youth because of Guitar Hero 3, and now I love them.

BTW, this song is AWESOME!! Love it to death :D

  • really what song do they have in GH3?

  • kool thing

  • cause thats what people do on the internet

  • how come all you people on youtube just argue? who cares? listen to the fucking video and live your own life man.

  • cuz that is their life, they have nothing better to do. they look forward to picking a fight online.

  • why does this song have to be on guitar hero 5

    i fuckin hate guitar hero

    that shits for posers...

  • Shit you suck nigga dick nigga dick hehe nigga dick

  • So, it's a bad thing that people who otherwise did not know about Sonic Youth get to hear them and possibly become fans of them?

    Seriously, come the fuck on.

  • I'm sure it payed rent for a few months and the people in Sonic Youth really appreciated that.

  • if it makes you feel better, you dont have to play guitar hero if you dont want to lol

  • yeah, nothing more poser than play a videogame...

  • everyone is a poser. if you don't think you pose, then you are delusional

  • i ripped your heart out from you chest,.....

  • xD LoL

  • I Love this song <3

  • sonic youth inspired EVERYONE in the underground at one point

  • Yeah!@ Fender Jazzmaster FTW

  • really bro! it so rocks!

  • this is their catchiest song. but it's not their best song.

  • I would thumbs up that if you didn't TyPe iT LiKe aN AuTisT.

  • other way around. sonic youth influenced Nirvana, and kinda "created" them, making Nirvana more like jesus. And all the people that thought kurt was god are the ones that drove him crazy. admiration is fine. but kurt was just another ordinary asshole just like everyone else, except that he could write good songs. and don't type like a moron

  • no i didn't "but" a lot into that, being an ass comes incredibly easy. and you still type like a rETaRdEd DoUcHe

  • Eh, Nirvana's way up there in my top bands list, but I gotta say: Kurt was a horrible songwriter. Most of his songs make no sense, and the ones that do are quite fucked up. That being said, I believe it's how Nirvana plays that makes them amazing, rather than their lyrics.

  • I realize your point, but i think his songwriting is great, but his lyrics just aren't extra meaningful. And Nirvana really didn't play them all that well, they were pretty sloppy. No matter, Nirvana and Sonic youth are great.

  • how nirvana plays? well IM humbly O, they are not that special in terms of composition... sonic youth are awesome though... nirvana nah...

  • i havent heard a sonic youth song that isnt super sick

  • yeah i agree

  • amen to that

  • best thing they put on in awhile (even though it's already a few years old)

  • i thought the eternal was good

  • wow i love this song, like basically everyone else whose commented on this within the past few days i have a few sonic youth songs and heard this would be on gh5

  • The thing about Sonic Youth is that even though they were really into dissonance and atonality they had this wonderful gift for melody and hooks. I saw them a few times in the late eighties, once at Madison square garden(they opened for Neil Young) and at least once or twice at the legendary City Gardens in Trenton NJ.

  • my new favorite song

  • one of best bands ever 8)

  • If you don't get the title "Incinerate", you will after hearing that solo. Sonic Youth's fire still burns!

  • wow i like this song already hearing it my first time

  • this will be to play on gh5

  • i wanne play the drums

  • Comment removed

  • that show was so fucking great.

my friend threw lee his hat, and lee put it on his amp and then took it with him at the end.

  • i wish i could find a descent tab for this song :(

  • It's very artsy to intentionally make a crappy video..haha...but the song is so great, who needs pictures?

  • you're totally right haha

  • Really good song, just not so good a video.

  • Ah simplemente buenisimos...llevo 7 años escuchando sonic youth y simplemente estupenda su musica...

  • One of my fav's from SY, so so chill

  • the silversun pickups remind me of sonic youth

  • not all of sonic youth but this song and their chill stuff reminds of silversun

  • Silversun are one of the best influenced bands they bring out the best of sonic youth and the smashing pumpkins in their music

  • Completely Agree!

  • Looking forward to seeing them next month in Birmingham Alabama of all places. They are playing at a place called Sloss Furnace, great place.

  • you are oh so lucky.

  • why does it matter what genre it is? good music is good music right?

  • My favorite song ever. Her rejection smoldered me and i remain a smothered puzzle piece. Sigh. I can't wait until their album The eternal!

  • they're like new wave grunge

  • its not grunge its just alternative =)

  • i think i would call sonic youth...experimental alternative rock!

  • or u can call it what it is GRUNGE!!! XD

  • there fairly different from grunge bands like nirvana, pearl jam etc.

what album by sonic youth do you have?

  • i got daydream nation and another one but yea i forgot what it was called what about you .?

  • i have daydream nation, dirty, goo, the eternal and evol

  • Dirty is an alltime great. Pure class.

  • Sonic Youth transcends a label. They've done so many different things so many different ways. The only way to describe their music style is "Sonic Youth"...that being said, this song reminds me a lot of Thurston's Shape Is In a Trance solo album

  • Banda genial!

    ;D

  • agreed! but don't forget that obama also gives america a bad name

  • how so....

  • You should back you're opinions with facts. How so has Obama given the U.S. a bad name? Are trying to imply that Bush was a far better president than Obama will be? Bush drained all the Social Security funds with his foolish mistakes. Many Lives were lost and continue to be lost in Iraq because of a Texan's theory of Sadam having weapons of mass destruction. How so has Obama given a bad name to the U.S? Tell me

  • why did we vote for bush in the first place?

  • You say Texan like it's a bad thing...

  • HEY MAN, DON'T FUCKING USE THE WORD TEXAS IN BUSH'S LEGACY!!

People say Texas as if we told him what to do.

He wasn't even born here, and neither was papa bush!

  • Not everyone in Texas is a redneck or illiterate. Some are, but not all you're ignorant, don't stereotype

  • says the person who needs to use the word "fuck" three times to express how they feel about something.

Tell me, why is it that Texas is one of the only states not in debt?

  • fuckin' a

  • simply the best!!!

  • Like him or not... Jesus had some peaceful things to say, unlike the comment you posted. ^^^

Pretty cool dude in my book. ☮

  • jesus was black

  • he was brown .

  • he was metrosexual

  • no he wasn't, he was forest green

  • no, he was a necrobeastialitist

  • Jesus is Mexican living in Dallas that works Golden Corral.

  • he worked at a fastfood restaurant

  • u have nothing better to do, believe what u wanna believe but dont insult

  • kim is a babe =]

  • yo, this aint noise,HORSE the band is noise. yeah....lol

  • To those who think Sonic Youth is just noise, I understand. You need to get off this site and log into MADONNA. You might understand her better. And give your children Brittney and their children Hanna Montana. This is grunge. The direct progression of Punk. The direct progression of Acid Rock. You need to go back to Paul and Paula.

  • sonic youth isn't grunge lol.

  • what in the hell are you talking about?? Sonic Youth is NOT grunge, this song isnt even close to grunge. And also Sonic Youth did like using noise as a part of their music, but this song isn't really one of the noisy ones... listen to Silver Rocket if you want noise.

  • Sonic youth isnt grunge, -_-

  • this is grunge? I was not aware of that... (sarcasm)

  • ecstasy and sonic youth. synonymous. there is no difference. it hurts so good!!!!

  • I hate people who say sonic youth is just noise

  • I can listen to this kind of music all day.

  • Pretty cool band, who else agrees?i mean Kim is a good singer and she's hot!!

  • i agree with you go sonic youth woot!

  • kim isnt even singing on this song. and who cares if shes hot or not?

  • this video totally takes away your attention towards the song!!!

...i mean that in a good way!

i'm not a big sonic youth listener!

  • this is the best song ever

makes me want a jazzmaster looking at this video

  • dont forget sister!

  • AGREED

  • I love sonic youth

  • So perfect

  • classic tune!

  • This is one of the most influential bands in my life. As a musician and as a fan. They've influenced all of my favorite bands in the last 20 years too. I will never have anything bad to say about them... They helped bring Kurt Cobain and his crew to the masses. What bad can be said about people like this. This is a perfect example of musicians who actually love music. It's not a fashion accessory to them. It ain't about money or being a house hold name... Much respect to these masters!!!

  • What are the best Sonic Youth songs? I don't know this band too well but I want to look into them.... Any suggestions?

  • The albums Goo, Daydream Nation, and A Thousand Leaves are good places. Those are my favorite. This one's off Rather Ripped, which along with the single Incinerate, got me into them.

  • Thank you. :) Yeah, I think Incinerate was the first song I've heard of theirs as well, that got me interested. Thanks for the suggestions!

  • this song has a neworder or joy division feel to it.

    it is so exquisite!!!

  • :)

    do they still tour ?

i would LOVE to see them
