  • driver problems (wifi + graphic card). blank screen laptop issue. Dont buy it: bad design

  • Junk..

  • Linux driver problems? What else is new?

  • I miss these podcasts *,*

  • Hi,

I have this netbook but not with Linux but with windows vista business edition, it works absolutely perfect! you are absolutely correct, the high resolution is amazing for such a tiny screen! the keyboard is tough and the trackpad is tough. I have used the asus netbook and it is very cheap and very bad quality. Thank you for recommending the HP 2133, I have subscribed.

    Thanks!

  • Great review, I bought myself a Dell Mini 9 with Ubuntu 8.04 preloaded, its nice; but, I bought my wife the MSI Wind, WOW, scrubbed off the XP install, put 8.10 on, its absolutely amazing.

  • Be careful when you want to buy such a thing and would like to use linux on it! They made some "submodels" with hardware linux just DOESN'T work with.

I will sell the 2133 to some windows user and buy me a asus eee 901 with real linux support.

  • Nice one dude - just bought one and wanted reassurance! ;)

  • slow down lol

  • is there wireless internet?

  • yer

  • wow... HP now has linux on laptops.. Dell as well and many many companies! great! (yea, BSD isnt ready for desktop yet)

  • @orgthingy

I don't think it actually comes with Linux, he just put it on.

  • Actually he said it comes with Suse, he just put Ubuntu on it. From what I understand, you can choose to have it shipped with either Windows or Suse.

  • MSI Wind ?

  • but no, silicon mechanics ..

    (he wore antennas) lol

  • There are some bigger batteries available for the eee. I don't know if there are any official ones. I got one off ebay for 30$ + shipping - that lasts about 6 hours (10400mAh) at normal usage, it elevates the machine quite a bit, but 6 hours is a striking argument. I think there are normal sized 6600mAh ones too.

I've never seen you that excited over a gadget :D.

Unfortunately the ndiswrapper stuff doesn't work so well with kismet *caugh*. Great to see more budget mini notebooks though.

  • I was pretty excited about the X-Arcade. :D

  • Just curious if you installed the firmware for the broadcom linux driver? most broadcom's I remember having to install firmware in /lib/firmware

  • I didn't, but only because I read in forums, etc, that the "standard" firmware and broadcom drivers did NOT work with this version of the hardware.

I had no reason to believe the Ubuntu forum users were wrong, so I just went with NDISWrapper.

  • I have a question... did the HP MINI already come with windows installed? Because i would much rather use linux. which is why I prefer the asus eeepc

  • Both Linux and Windows versions are available. You can't order Linux on the top end models, however, which is one of the things I'm hoping my video(s) change.

  • Very nice review. But quick question, does the laptop heat up badly when you place it on your lap? Cause the asuse works great and does not heat up at all.

  • It does get fairly warm. Warmer than the Eee for sure. I haven't figured out if it's due to CPU scaling issues (I did supposedly apply the fix for that), or if it just runs hotter.

I have a hard time with either of the little computers on my lap, they're so small. Usually I have them sitting on the arm of my recliner.

But yes, definitely hotter than the EeePC 701.

  • ah ok. Thank for the info trunkboy.

  • So thats yours now?

  • Nope, I don't get to keep 'em.

  • Shawn, why were you in stress why making the video?

i am wondering what happened with HP *-)

I think you should think in loyality (like the last vid)...

you had notes.. strange.. did you accord with HP about talking about 'this good featre, or that one.. etc..'?

there were big changes from the previous vids.

    =S

    but its cool.. =)

  • I did have notes, but it was only because I didn't want to miss any of my points.

And in no way did HP influence the review. That would just be wrong on so many levels. It would make ME a puppet on a string. No way man...

  • ok

    =)

    I am glad about that

    =D

keep on the good work so... =P

  • yeah however the downside is that they only offer Linux on their lower end. if want any higer configuration, u then need to get Windows Vista with it.... which absolutely sucks.

that said the review by shawn was awesome. Thanks shawn, keep them comming.

  • This is one of the things I've really been pushing HP to change. Hopefully they'll listen. :)

  • hey how do i test and reveiw laptops? please pm me

  • The Mini-Notebook wars are heating up, and getting interesting, this, the eeepc, the wind, the aspire.

  • Dell... It's coming out next month. w00t!

  • Dell is coming out with a mini computer too? whoa... I wonder if apple will too.. although their computers do get fairly small.

  • you finally got one! nice!
