"If someone prays for patience, do you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If they pray for courage, does God give them courage, or does he give them opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for their family to be closer, you think God zaps them with warm, fuzzy feelings? Or does he give them opportunities to love each other?" - Morgan Freeman (from the movie "Evan Almighty")
Stupid video. No one listens to your prayers, your just mixing self reflection with delusion, and expecting results to come out of thin air. Thats why prayers don't work.
@Jesusisdanswer. I reject your reply as an unfounded assertion based on evidence of extremely unlikely circumstance. Prayers do not work. If they did, all of our problems would be solved. No moral god would allow the pleas of starving children to go unanswered, but help you find success in your life. Your life is good because you were born into a good life. The lives of the poor are poor because the impoverished. THE END.
This is what the video is about- not all prayers are answered. You can't pray just at times of need - pray everyday. Prayer has a power, but it will not force you to do anything. If I pray for me to find a lost item without even looking for it, what good does that do? You have to pray and then use that prayer to affect your actions yourself. Prayers just tell God to help you in those actions.
@IanEColeman They don't work because you don't believe. You can't just wait for God to come and slap you in the face. You have to seek him for answers. I'm sorry that your life experiences make you believe so, but I believe different. God didn't create death. He didn't create poverty. He doesn't hate anyone, he changes the lives of those he can. Once again- I'm really sorry you haven't been able to experience what I have through life, and I'm 14. You should really give it a go.
@chicagogurl630. Are you saying that poor people don't believe in God and prayers? Are you saying that no one who's ever died praying, actually believed in God and the power of prayer? Being 14 doesn't make you an authority on anything, except what life's like as a 14 year old. What do you know about religion or science. When I was your age I was ten times the believer that you are; and look at me now, a poor cynical atheist, who rejects God and ignores his confirmation in the catholic church.
@IanEColeman for your information, we aren't catholic, and I will never believe in the catholic church. We play rock music at our church! It's really cool. And I don't think you are a "poor cynical atheist" -- you are probably very successful in life. I'm commenting because I just want people to experience such love and joy as I do.
@chicagogurl630. I'm quite aware of the difference between the catholic church and all the other churches are very different in practice. I happen to like church music, so I'm fine with gregorian chant and church hymns; I think its very beautiful. While becoming an atheist I actually came to understand christianity better than most christians do (from a historical sense; obviously I wouldn't say I understand a belief in God that well; though I did once).
This gave me an idea. Someone should make a vending machine just like the one in this video, but tracts come out of the machine, and so does the dollar you put in. The tract could have a message about not thinking God is a "vending machine Jesus" Great vid.
ORAL ROBERTS WRITES IN HIS EDITION OF THE BIBLE: "You know, I sometimes think we have put more faith in a coke machine than we do in God. When you put your coin in the machine you have a contract or covenant with the coke company and the maker of the dispensing machine. Therefore, the moment you put your coin in, you reach down expecting the can to come into your hand. Well, you have a contract or covenant with One greater than a coke machine.
When you put in your SEED-FAITH you are to reach out your faith not to men, but to Jesus, expecting to receive more surely from Him than you do from the coke machine." Holy Bible, Oral Roberts Edition, "My Personal Commentary", Pg. 16
Under the dark sky, shines the moonlight. Blessed by Satan, I dwell within depths of hell. Powers of the devil defeating the cowardly light. The throne of god shall crumble down. The earth will be a kingdom of demons. Where life and indulgence shall rule. Those who worship holy evil will be doomed. The white sheep shall be destroyed. Rendered to pieces by the claws of Satan. A black star shines over a mighty new king. The paths to hell are clear. The lord of the pit will rule!
Very good video, and oh, so true. Sad to think that the only times that many of us Christians come to Jesus is when we need something, and when we don't get it, many of us stop coming. I am guilty of this too, but oh well...
That video is so true , Christians give you nothing for your money.
