@markley90 If you're talking about the softer part (1:55) were he bends dives the pitch of the harmonics, he's using a Boss PS-3 or PS-5 which you can see to the left of the red Digitech Whammy when you bends down to fiddle with some knobs at (3:54)
What is the effect the guitarist starts using at 1:57 ? its most obvious 2:23 / 2:25. I assume he's manipulating it with the expression pedal - sounds like some sort of portamento effect. I know that I'll realise what it is as soon as somebody says it, and feel like an idiot >.<
the album is called Complex full of Phantoms, it was also released on a comp that sargent house put out on record store day last year? yep. happy hunting.
Wtf? No I didn't. I was pointing out how they ripped off this particular part that someone else was curious about from Modest Mouse and letting him/her know that of course, Nick is using a pedal of some kind, and that sound effect is not done with a whammy bar or through some magical guitar tuning or whatever the fuck he/she originally thought.
did you realize that this song was written before "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine". It sure seems like Modest Mouse, a great band, stole that from him, or no one stole anything.
So lemme get this straight. The song, "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine" was on the album, "The Lonesome Crowded West" which was released by the band Modest Mouse in 1997... and therefore could have been written as early as 1995.
You're saying, however, that this song, that is, "Last Smile For Jaron" was written by Tera Melos before 1997... when they were all (around) 14 years old, and that they didn't steal the particular part in question because they wrote it then.
oh fucking sick, I just learned Modest Mouse is from a town not an hour from my own. I had no idea. You're right though. I didn't know Modest Mouse existed before "The Moon". I only like "Good News" anyway. But I still doubt Tera Melos stole the part. That doesn't seem their style. Because it's not.
okay i see the digitech whammy. i've got that i see the tuner pedal. uh i see the line 6 delay thingie i still need to get that umm i see another pedal in the middle i think that may be a volume pedal idk (i'm not very familiar with a lot of pedals) i can't make out anything else i think he has a boss delay pedal too
I could be wrong but I think he holds onto the pick with his ring and pinky finger when he taps, I've watched that part over and over trying to see him get it from somewhere on the guitar but I can't find it so he probably does what i said, maybe not though...
Their live stuff isn't exactly best quality, but look up their studio stuff. It's much more "under control" except for Melody 8 (half an hour of this, basically)
i read in an interview that his "two hand tapping mumbo jumbo" isn't for show, he said it's because his fingers don't move as fast as he wants them to.
That's ridicolous, playing behind your head adds no musical element to it, it's stagemanship. If you think everytime a guitarist taps it is only for show then you need help
