Can someone help to enlighten me? When reading the coments, I usually come away with not much except visions of rude, vulgar and not well informed writers. I did not like Burton as King Henry but i"m astonished someone thought he should die from cancer. Are most writers teenagers? And-- are the comment sections meant for serious discussion or sophmoric outbursts?
@JuanMacready he was? well at least he looked attractive, which wasn't henry still supposed to be sort of at this point in his life. most movies just make him either a total porker or like that stupid show the tudors, make him look nothing like.
@hempenasphalt Burton was a fucking ugly fat alcoholic loser who smoked 100 cigarettes a day. I wish he had died of lung cancer like his infinitely more talented former friend Sir Stanley Baker.
@JuanMacready LOL Burton was ugly?? are you crazy? He's gorgeous!! And it's not your business how many cigarettes he smokes, it doesn't make him a bad person. Out of all the actors from way back when, Burton is at the top of my list for good looking. I'm not gonna check your channel, but I'm guessing you're a guy. You seem not to know what most women like in their men.. Burton was VERY appealing... and I'm not the only one who thinks so!!
@hempenasphalt please, don,t try to understand this freak. he,s always writing terrible things about everybody. don,t loose your time in a crap like this. mattew.
When all is said and done- Anne got the last laugh, didn't she? Her daughter Elizabeth became the greatest queen England ever had. Henry was a pig- he slept with any woman he wanted to, and just because he didn't get his son, he got rid of the mother like so much garbage. I am glad that Anne's daughter grew up to rule "a greater Englad than Henry could ever have built"- it was fate. Elizabeth had Anne's spirit and it showed- take that, Henry!
I remember once during history class that Anne was accused of being a whore in order to indirectly attack Henry's manhood, and therefore his throne. The only men that Anne had contact with was her brother and I believe also her father. The accusation of prostitution came because Anne spoke privately to her brother, and becasue of the tension of the politics of the tme, Henry's enemies used her speaking privately to a man that was not her husband (her brother) as an excuse to call her a whore.
Calling Queen Anne a whore had some justification, since she was pregnant at the time of her marriage. One has to admire anyone who would have the nerve to do so publicly, or in the presence of the King, since impugning the chastity of the Queen Consort was probably a form of treason and, in any event, worth a few hours on the rack or some other form of torture.
It was not strange when you consider that Anne's coronation represented the visible overthrow of Catholicism which, for centuries had been the state religion, and many people found that disturbing. By the time Elizabeth became Queen, however, the people had suffered through Bloody Mary's attempt to reestablish Catholicism by force, and they rallied to Elizabeth in opposition to that.
What an asinine view of history you have. Do you think the English people simply chucked away the Catholicism they held for 1200 years, just because a king said so? It took generations of suppression, persecution, murder and indoctrination for the nation to go over to the new faith.
Yes, I do think that the English people would change their religion based on the King's edict, particularly when he was willing to chop off heads to enforce his edict!
On May 19th, I'm wearing black clothing to work... It will be a sad day.. ;(
I feel soo bad for what Henry put Anne though.. It's so unfair. But then again, life in the Tudor era was hard for just about anybody other than the King.
I always love your little clarifications....thanks for posting, this was always one of my favorite scenes of the movie, even if GB was ridiculously un-pregnant....
Were they not mocked at all during the coronation then, for the "HA HA" part?
i suppose they included the insults for dramatic effect
it does annoy me though how she was referred to as 'whore' though, i just think what the hell? don't you know what 'whore' means? its someone who sleeps around, anne did not do that so shes not a whore in any shape or form
its not nice to call a woman that, especially if they aren't a slapper
no actually she didnt sleep with many people, everybody knows that, people only called her whore because she was the replacement for catherine of aragon, had it been jane seymour, katherine parr or anyone else they would have been called whore also even if they werent
I love how he was rushing through it, that was funny. I mean if only Rochester had been that quick, he might have got away with bigamy!
Yes! I know Rochester was a fictiona character but its the person I can think of, who tried to marry his second wife while still married to the first.
Por Anne it so is humiliating to listen these shouts of crowd

I like her plenty and I have great respect for her. But I wish people would stop calling her queen. She never did deserve that title.

In reality, it was said that Anne had to walk to her coronation alone. Can you imagine having to endure the catcalls by yourself?

what do you mean by: Unfortunately for Anne and Henry their respective initials put together gained much mockery?
angelchi1500 1 year ago
@angelchi1500
It was tradition to write the initals of the King & Queen on posts, curtains, carpet, etc.
When Henry was married to Katherine of Aragon everything said "HK."
Unfortunately, marrying Anne meant changing everything to "HA."
People mocked this, as in the marriage is a joke, ha ha ha.
