Hi I'm a bari sax player in a quintet at my school. I was wondering what tips you guys had for us. We play Bill Holcombe's works for sax quintet. It's fairly easy, but we have a hard time with some of the songs because of our experience level. Thanks!

How do you make an alto sound like that??????????? Is it like jaw movements or what???

@mattwins34 Yes. You can actually see when he goes for that kind of playing that his lips and jaw jerk forward a tad. It adds a bit of flair to the way you play your notes and you will notice in Jazz, Alto players will constantly go to that kind of movement for that extra spark to their solos.

@mattwins34 it's more airway & airflow control than it is in your mouth. Once you get really good, most stuff should be done from the throat, not that jaw, Only scoops and a few other tricks are in the jaw.
