Just saw it today and I have to say, one of my favorites all time. I dont remember any of the trailors or marketing from a year ago, so I had no expectations, or really knew anything about it, just pressed play and was instantly engaged within the first 5 minutes. Great acting/directing/plot, and really related to the time period. 3.5/4 stars
I agree with you on how they marketed it. they did make it seem like it was going to be a staight up comedy, which it wasnt. but i watched it a second time and found it a lot more humor in it from when i saw the first go-around. and im surprised you didnt make note of the soundtrack, the music is great in the film!
The director of the movie can have said that she should do that. Many people do that, it's normal. She out it in her character and if the director didn't want her to tough her hair that much she wouldn't have tough her hair.

now here is the thing: i just dont know why! there nothing growndbreaking in there as a movie, its a super simple storyline of coming of age and confronting complex emotions and situations for the first time in life while working on a crap job. but even so, there is something so special in this movie that i cant quite put my finger on. maybe the nostalgic feeling of a long gone unique era that was the 80s? good acting from all the cast especially jesse E.

This is one of my top films for 2009. I was lucky enough to not be following the ad camopaign. I went to this movie on a whim. The beginning is disappointing only because you had previous expectations of it being a laugh riot. But you instantly forget that and are taken by the characters. Jesse Eisenberg and Kirsten Stewart's romance is one of the best in a teen film in a long time. This is easily the most underrated movie of 2009.
from the trailer i expected a LOT more of this film. it was funny but i expected more than just this. but its okay, overall i liked this movie. the acting was great and i also notice how kristen stewart always touches her hair. and not just in this movie. other movies she did and the few interviews i saw of her, she always did that! its a little annoying...

I thought this movie was okay. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't what I expected it to be. My mom was the one who really wanted to see it. So I watched a trailer for it and it looked so funny. When I saw it I almost thought it was a little of a drama. They used all of the funny parts for the trailer which was disappointing. They could've done so much more with this movie. I didn't expect anything of the film, but i really liked it! It seemed so real and I liked,that they didn't make another Superbad or a silly teen movie. I just liked it so so so much. I have to say, I went to he film with a friend and she thought it was crap, so we had a little fight, but whatever. I loved it and that's that :D

This movie wasn't what i expected it to be. But, actually in a good way. I really liked Adventurland, and Kristen Stewart was amazing!!! After i watched it i feel in love with Jesse Eisenberg! But, i agree it is not the next superbad, but overall it was really good! And Kristen Stewart touces her a lot, and so does her twilght co-star Robert Pattinson. But, amazing movie!

I really love this movie. It was very entertaining and funny. I agree they could have put more humor related to working in the theme park. Overall really good acting and just a really good movie, I wouldn't mind seeing it again. :)
I enjoyed it!! Yes it wasn't what I expected but in the end I was happy with the result. They should not have marketed it as the next superbad though. That is just a bad set up. I think this movie does not get the credit it deserves. It touches on some great themes that may get over looked if someone goes in with a comedy mentality.

I loved this movie. The acting was very believable. It was not a comedy and I have no idea why they marketed it as such. I mean it had some pretty somber themes going on in it. I thought I was going to a comedy but it turned out to be a heavy drama which I liked. And Kristin Stewart was great like always.
I have to say that I went mostly because the movie was filmed at Kennywood. As a former employee of the park and a current fan it was exciting to see the park on the big screen. Watching for things that you know so well having gone there since I was a little kid. There were certain parts of the park that couldn't be shown mostly because the movie is set in the 80's and some of the stuff at the park didn't exist then. There was one short scene that wasnt shot at the park, ferris wheel scene.
this review is accurate in that the trailer is very misleading and it is a lot more of a drama. but i think this movie was just ok. not good, not lame, just ok.

Saw it twice and really liked it. I am now a fan of Jesse Eisenberg. :) Kristen was awesome as Em, imo, and I didn't even notice her running her hands through her hair that many times nor do I care. Ha. Wish there was more Bill Hader & Kristen Wiig though. Other than that, really liked it. :) I wasn't really expecting another Superbad, so glad it wasn't like it.

i saw twilight too and i thought she was great in both movies, better in adventureland though. i think in a few years she will blossom into an oscar winner. the only problem i had with adventureland is that it was almost too good to be true. like people just openly smoking pot, and kids in bars drinking without anyone saying hay there are kids drinking in bars. like a teenage fantasy almost. what they wish life was realy like back then, but at the same time i enjoyed the story.

i'm not a big movie buff or anything and i didn't see superbad, but i just went to see this movie becuase kristen stewart and ryan reynolds were in it. i found the movie more as a teenage drama and i also thought there were a few wasted characters in there. i thought the acting was great and the characters that weren't wasted were there for a reason. the main character, jesse, was not so, oh what is the word, right for the part. he just seemed to different for this movie. i give it 3 out of 4.

I like Adventureland a lot....I thought it was pretty flippin sweet that they filmed the movie at Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh, PA because I've been there soooo many times. The acting was really good and so was the plot.

I actually liked it better after I saw it, and was glad that it wasn't the same as it was marketed. I mean, I want an original movie, not a carbon copy of Superbad. I thought that it was funny. It was based on Greg Mottola's experience working at a theme park, and I knew that going in, so I didn't expect it to just be joke after joke. I don't like when movies do that, and the entire dialogue is just jokes. I loved this movie; it's definitely in my top ten.
I went into this movie expecting the type of film where you laugh AT it with your friends. I was pleasantly surprised, however, seeing this one: I expected a raunchfest like Superbad, but got an enjoyable, entertaining film. Kristen Steward wasn't so bad, and I thought all the characters were definitely interesting and memorable. The whole film just worked for me--I found I could easily relate to all the nonsensical drama that takes place in this film, so yeah, I laughed and loved it.

I kept telling myself it was going to get funny but it never happened. When a good joke or comedic event is dry and offset by a depressing and gray filming style it kills the jokes by taking itself too serious. Its the equivalent of watching "Pink Panther" with your little cousin and then realizing it was actually a case study about life and racism toward pink panthers narrated by Steve Martin. I hated this movie, it made me feel emo and sad inside and thats just wrong, ITS FUCKING WRONG

I finally rented this last night, LOVED it. The story was amazing, completely believable.

#1: I like Jesse Eisenberg alot more than Michael Cera, mainly because Jesse makes better film choices nowadays.
#2: This movie may change your opinion on Kirsten Stewart; it certainly did for me. Her performance is fantastic.

I thought this movie was okay. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't what I expected it to be. My mom was the one who really wanted to see it. So I watched a trailer for it and it looked so funny. When I saw it I almost thought it was a little of a drama. They used all of the funny parts for the trailer which was disappointing. They could've done so much more with this movie. The ending was sad because she had to move because she was humiliated. So Im saying that it was not the best or the worst,

unfortunatley you, like a lot of others were a victim of horrible advertising. the commercial makes this movie out to be just another crude humor comedy. I bet if you watch it again knowing what to expect that youll like it a lot more.

I really liked it! I have to say that I did think it would be something like Superbad as well, but like you said: it wasn't even close.. It was funny, though! Great storyline, great acting, had some good music in it :]

I didn't expect anything of the film, but i really liked it! It seemed so real and I liked,that they didn't make another Superbad or a silly teen movie. I just liked it so so so much. I have to say, I went to he film with a friend and she thought it was crap, so we had a little fight, but whatever. I loved it and that's that :D

This movie wasn't what i expected it to be. But, actually in a good way. I really liked Adventurland, and Kristen Stewart was amazing!!! After i watched it i feel in love with Jesse Eisenberg! But, i agree it is not the next superbad, but overall it was really good! And Kristen Stewart touces her a lot, and so does her twilght co-star Robert Pattinson. But, amazing movie!

I really love this movie. It was very entertaining and funny. I agree they could have put more humor related to working in the theme park. Overall really good acting and just a really good movie, I wouldn't mind seeing it again. :)

I enjoyed it!! Yes it wasn't what I expected but in the end I was happy with the result. They should not have marketed it as the next superbad though. That is just a bad set up. I think this movie does not get the credit it deserves. It touches on some great themes that may get over looked if someone goes in with a comedy mentality.

I loved this movie. The acting was very believable. It was not a comedy and I have no idea why they marketed it as such. I mean it had some pretty somber themes going on in it. I thought I was going to a comedy but it turned out to be a heavy drama which I liked. And Kristin Stewart was great like always.

I have to say that I went mostly because the movie was filmed at Kennywood. As a former employee of the park and a current fan it was exciting to see the park on the big screen. Watching for things that you know so well having gone there since I was a little kid. There were certain parts of the park that couldn't be shown mostly because the movie is set in the 80's and some of the stuff at the park didn't exist then. There was one short scene that wasnt shot at the park, ferris wheel scene.

i agree, it had more drama but the actors were great. this was def. a perfect movie for Kstewart, it has here personality written all over it. and jesse eisenberg acted very well with her. overall i thought it was great.

Saw it twice and really liked it. I am now a fan of Jesse Eisenberg. :) Kristen was awesome as Em, imo, and I didn't even notice her running her hands through her hair that many times nor do I care. Ha. Wish there was more Bill Hader & Kristen Wiig though. Other than that, really liked it. :) I wasn't really expecting another Superbad, so glad it wasn't like it.

i saw twilight too and i thought she was great in both movies, better in adventureland though. i think in a few years she will blossom into an oscar winner. the only problem i had with adventureland is that it was almost too good to be true. like people just openly smoking pot, and kids in bars drinking without anyone saying hay there are kids drinking in bars. like a teenage fantasy almost. what they wish life was realy like back then, but at the same time i enjoyed the story.

i'm not a big movie buff or anything and i didn't see superbad, but i just went to see this movie becuase kristen stewart and ryan reynolds were in it. i found the movie more as a teenage drama and i also thought there were a few wasted characters in there. i thought the acting was great and the characters that weren't wasted were there for a reason. the main character, jesse, was not so, oh what is the word, right for the part. he just seemed to different for this movie. i give it 3 out of 4.

Yeah, I just saw it last night. And I have to say, it wasn't really what I expected, but I did think that it was good. Nothing amazing, but good. Some REALLY funny parts tho, I'll give it that. There was one part where I couldn't stop cracking up.

Where James ran in to his bosses' office and said "Guys are trying to kill me!" And then Bill Hader went out and scared the shit outta that guy. It was so hilarious. But yeah, overall, I thought it was a good movie.

I like Adventureland a lot....I thought it was pretty flippin sweet that they filmed the movie at Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh, PA because I've been there soooo many times. The acting was really good and so was the plot.
However...I do agree with you about the comedy level. With two cast stars from Saturday Night Live, It definately could have been a lot more funnier.

I totally agree that the trailer was misleading in many ways. I went with 2 of my friends, and honestly we all hated it. I was expecting the superbad vibe but i mean we laughed at the funny akward moments but i feel like no one was laughing in the theater besides us at the few funny points so if were to rate this movie i'd give is like a half a star

and second: is it really rated R ish? cuz im 13 and i REALLY want to see this movie! it loooks good! I actually liked it better after I saw it, and was glad that it wasn't the same as it was marketed. I mean, I want an original movie, not a carbon copy of Superbad. I thought that it was funny. It was based on Greg Mottola's experience working at a theme park, and I knew that going in, so I didn't expect it to just be joke after joke. I don't like when movies do that, and the entire dialogue is just jokes. I loved this movie; it's definitely in my top ten.

I went into this movie expecting the type of film where you laugh AT it with your friends. I was pleasantly surprised, however, seeing this one: I expected a raunchfest like Superbad, but got an enjoyable, entertaining film. Kristen Steward wasn't so bad, and I thought all the characters were definitely interesting and memorable. The whole film just worked for me--I found I could easily relate to all the nonsensical drama that takes place in this film, so yeah, I laughed and loved it.

I kept telling myself it was going to get funny but it never happened. When a good joke or comedic event is dry and offset by a depressing and gray filming style it kills the jokes by taking itself too serious. Its the equivalent of watching "Pink Panther" with your little cousin and then realizing it was actually a case study about life and racism toward pink panthers narrated by Steve Martin. I hated this movie, it made me feel emo and sad inside and thats just wrong, ITS FUCKING WRONG

I saw it like a week ago. It was ok, but it did get way too long. Me and my friends were about to walk out. Also, when it was done, we were the first ones to get up and leave.
