He is amazing sometimes people just try to look at a drummer solo skills well you are wrong what he dose is amazing. Playing an amazing beat or grove in a band is the first job of a drummer then the solo's come after, It is harder than what you think keeping perfect time no mistakes remembering all the beats fill's and maybe solo parts. He is amazing and as other people said he get's paid for this and I bet well too so he must deliver. AMAZING drummer in my eye's.

@percypiggle6 it's not hard to play along to dream theater or a7x songs even as a new drummer. Portnoy and "The Rev" have to be some of the most over rated drummers today, along side Travis Barker and Jordinson. What Royster can do is far more advanced than anything I hear coming from Portnoy or "The Rev".
@zzzzzushi To Play pro gigs you have to have 95% pocket and just enough groove to make it sound good performers don't want you to hog the spotlight. Even If he does have click try playing Five minutes while filling syncopating and .....

@benfromlondon Im not trying to be a dick and yea he is playing to a track and a lot of samples. I play with a lot of samples and track with the Artist that I'm playing for also. Honestly what drummer that plays gigs like these doesn't use a click or track for most songs? Doesn't make you bad. It makes you better. However he probably is just using Ear monitors and no click. The track he's playing to is intended to be heard in the house seats.
This is actually one of the best clips I've seen with him. I know he's amazingly fast and has crazy chops from another world. But in this clip he shows that he understands and masters the groove from the holy land between straight and shuffle :)

@ameeleigh1 Uhh Tony Royster is probably one of the most versatile drummers that's ever lived. Plus this is rehearsal, it's not like he can completely freestyle.
For me, Tony surprisingly lacks real pocket when compared to players like Bernard Purdie, Clyde Stubblefield, David Garibaldi, Steve Gadd and, last but certainly not least, Steve Jordan.

vocals im sure are not out of time. in big venues the sound is pushed out the front and by the time it bounces off the back of the room and gets back there will be a delay bigger the room bigger delay. his camera is behind him so thats why it sounds out. hes ok because he has inears :)

For me, Tony surprisingly lacks real pocket when compared to players like Bernard Purdie, Clyde Stubblefield, David Garibaldi, Steve Gadd and, last but certainly not least, Steve Jordan.

vocals im sure are not out of time. in big venues the sound is pushed out the front and by the time it bounces off the back of the room and gets back there will be a delay bigger the room bigger delay. his camera is behind him so thats why it sounds out. hes ok because he has inears :)
