I heard a recording of this peice but in Notre Dame Cathedral-France. I think the recording is a few years older than this one. Since the wind pressure a long time ago used to be really high, it came out ludicrisly powerful! The bombardes were collosal at about 3:47. Not trying to scare you folks but it made a much, much bigger sound than this by a loooooong way!!!
This piece is OK at this speed but would be better slower for sure!! Beautiful organ sonorities, although the Swell's somewhat too bright when 'pianissimo'. Otherwise, lovely at all other volume gradations.
Regarding the plans to replace it with 2 organs: add the other organ at the back, OK (and Casavant is an excellent firm all right); but KEEP the Æolian-Skinner at the front as is, or even enlarge it a bit more anywway. However, most certainly it should NOT BE JUNKED or replaced!!!!
@LJBSasha - sorry but the Aeolian-Skinner is no such thing now. There's less than fifty ranks in it that sound as they should. The chests and soundboards are all 70s junk too. It's just too far gone to restore. Dobson will do a superb job, re-using every single goddamn pipe they can. I just wonder if it'll be big enough - that place needs at least 200 ranks!
Seems very fast?? I'm no Messian expert (!!) but should'nt the reverb of the room be used more? Certainly Messian was very aware of this, the French style is one of listening for the sound to dissipate and then continuing. But maybe I'm totally wrong in this??
Yes it should be played in around 10 minutes (or at least 9) -only- to get all the effect, and auto-inspiration of this fantastic piece an organist will find doing.
Gorgeous music and a GREAT performance! Thanks.

Lovely sound and I really like your choice and timing of visuals - complements the music perfectly. Beautiful.

Contemporary french organ music is sponging from
the great french organ history in the 19th and 20th century.

The name of the composer is Olivier Messiaen and the name of the composition is Apparition de l'Église éternelle.
Otherwise a nice clip and nice playing, but I think it should be played even slower to get the impression of a huge cathedral rising.
