Claude's heavy breathing in the very beginning should be rated XXX. This film mesmerized me. I refuse to send it back to Netflix until my own copy arrives from Amazon. This is not your granny's NOW, VOYAGER cast. This is raw, sexy, dirty, filthy noir.
And this fanvid sums up the attraction perfectly.
Very nice video! And one of my favorite songs. I didn't really see Bette's character as evil though. Claude was actually the evil one. Bette was only reacting to HIS evil.
This is a great movie but I think Christine (Davis) should have left Karel (Henreid) and gone back to Alex (Rains). Life with Alex would have been more interesting! ;)
The concerto which Karel is playing at the beginning of the film is a Concerto in C, attributed to Haydn, in an arrangement which is not used much anymore. The solo cadenza is an original one by the film's composer, Erich Korngold, who was actively involved in this production, to make it as authentic a presentation of the musician's life as possible. I'm sure he chose all of the "incidental" music.
The incidental music when Christine and Karel meet again is the opening of Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony; the piece begun after the disastrous rehearsal of the "Hollenius" Concerto is the second movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, the movement subtitled "Funeral March". The piece Christine plays at the party is the opening of Beethoven's "Appassionata" Sonata for piano.
The composer of the score plays on the soundtrack for Rains' character in the early scene right after the party.
TO ANYONE WHO'S SEEN FILM: could someone please let me know the entire music score of the film? I really need to know which piece is played during Christine and Karel meeting again, and which piece was played during the Hollenius/Christine scene after the rehearsal of Hollenius' concierto (it was a Beethoven). Thank-you!
Hey K8, ALthough I did watch this a few days ago, I've only just found the time to comment, for that I apologize. Excellent video, when the beat first kicked in, I though the Baywatch remix was about to kick in, haha. Absolute Madness. Oh and the video you recommened was brilliant, thank you. And I agree 100%, haha. Anyway, 5*'s as usual.
