Now all the "unique" people are more mainstream then less unique people. fucking hipsters. I feel bad to be classified as one also. @cuntcow6 These days the majority of Indie musicians of any genre are classified as Hipsters. Music rarely gets us that really nice place downtown. For the most part we live in the cheaper area of town with 6 other dudes because that's the only way we can make it work. And I do realize that there are those who fake it all for "hipster points". But really, don't be so quick to judge that group of unshaven guys or well dressed girls down the street. They may be legit.

Fashion and music should be personal artistic tastes. Be true to what you like for your own self expression and message. No one likes a faker. Kids are always going to be looking outward for inspiration and role models. If a "hipster's" confidence attracts people and causes others to emulate him/her, s/he should be flattered. People spewing hate are likely jealous because they can't pull off copies, or lashing out at kids looking for role models.
