She has a very powerful voice, no doubt. I think she may have over-dramatized her performance. I'm a rabid Callas Fanatic, so obviously I think her rendition can't be touched. They are all great singers though.
Trivia quiz time..... Which soprano portrayed Desdemona in Mario del Monaco's final stage performance of Otello??? Hope I didn't make this question TOO rough!! ;-)
Sorry Jappeloup but I do hear a heartbeat sound at 47,48,and 49 and even at later instances but that is not to say that I do not like this video. I love Ricciarelli, she had a wonderful voice as well as being very beautiful. Too bad she did her best to shred it.
Brava Katia Ricciarelli! Molto buono!
What a beautiful aria, so haunting and stunning. I LOVE this version, although if you like this song, you might want to check out Callas' recording, as many regard it as the definitive version. Thanks for posting!
katiaterarocks, I would like to call you an idiot but that would not be polite so I won't. Ricciarelli was one of the most beatiful singers ever and now, as she gets older, is still a handsome woman. But what that has to do with her singing is a mystery.
Just wonderful voice and emotion, fitting for the aria! I think the conductor is Alberto Peyretti, from a concert she gave in 1991. My absolute favorite soprano- what she does with everything she sings is so purely exquisite! It excells in beauty and form and entertainment! Bravisima!
as we can see you dont appreciate the music, i bet you do prefer trash music but anyway, trash belongs to trash... if people has the privilege to love this music also can listen some ordinary one.. soo.. capisci?.. ooh and by the way, you have to put "AN " before a vowel so, in your words would be AN ugly.. of course, the ogly one here is you.
Sandrik-Georgian buttboy. Do you even read the nonsense you're listing? Wake up buttboy! Your country has been bitch slapped once again. Normal people with honor fight the invaders. Georgians surrender and then submit. Does your government know that you're a TRAITOR, welcoming the Russian invasion while hiding in your crap whole in Tiblisi and watching clips of half naked Russian body builder? You were waiting for them with open cheeks, while your gov't was begging the West for help. Basically, you wanna be Russia's bitch instead of living like a human being in freedom. No wonder Georgians have been the bitch of a major nation throughout its history. It's an inferior nation as it is full of people like you.
Sandrik-Georgian buttboy. You should be ashamed of yourself. Your country is under invasion, and instead of fighting against the invaders, you're surfing the net and praise the Russians! Now wonder Georgia is a loser nation. Instead of independence, you prefer to live with a Russian dick up your rear. What a lowlife!
Sandrik-What happened Georgian buttboy? You were praising the Russians, proclaiming that they're your orthodox brethren. At the same time you were insulting the US with impunity. Now that the Russians bitch slapped you, your American-educated PM is begging the US and EU to help his "little" country. Isn't poetic justice a beautiful thing?
I just can't help it, for me there is no one who can sing it with more feeling than Katia, unbelievable. When she was in her prime she was hard to equal. She simply raised the bar with this aria.
I found this reading rather disappointing. Ricciarelli certainly has a sumptous voice, but her singing can be a bit too artsy. Yes, she has beautiful pianissimos and long phrases. However, she delivered this aria with so much introspection and slow tempo that she really didn't "deliver" the aria. I don't think it reached the audience with the impact she may have herself felt.
i liked very much,it is slower than others, but then you can enjoy its inflections, hey it is not like callas when she was giving concerts on the 70s,which by the way, i find very enjoyable.some people only want perfection, but could they sing like that?when they can,i will give to them the right to find something badly sung.
Katia ha fatto una carriera splendida, certamente sprecata da prese di ruoli idiote, ma ha spleso fin dalla fine degli anni 60... molto giovane per la nostra più grande felicità.
well obviously not sung under the best conditions either. the conductor and orchestra seem clueless and that tempo would kill anybody. flawed in many ways but a remarkably gorgeous voice i find.....she did a lot of stuff that i really respect.
Beautifully sung, but lacking life. Because of vocal problems she indulges too much in "unwritten pianissimi." Though beautiful, they rob the piece of momentum.
I have heard better Ie: Tebaldi, but she is not that bad - she lacked feeling a bit - and also she is past her prime - She did not become a bit international star, too bad, the voice was quite beautiful.
Gorgeous, sensational--ESPECIALLY the tempo. Since WHEN is "slow" boring, pinches pendejos en sus cubiculos con vista al mar?? Is Glenn Gould too slow? And what about Pogorelich Brahms Op 118 #2? Slow? You betcha. "Boring"? In your dreams, obscurantist philistines!
This is a phenomenal singer. Perhaps a little slow and indulgent here but nonetheless splendid. What great voice! (slightly OT but is she here on youtube under " fattoria lite" some sort of Italian reality show? I hope that's not her
I just don´t inderstand why people here talk this way. I think she was as usual... after her first years of good singing, which was VERY SHORT, boaring, too slow, terrible vibrato, all the time scooping... you name it.
I agree with you, first years beautiful singing, and a beautiful voice, but here, she indulges herself and the tempo is to slow which makes it alittle boaring. On her defense, some of her pianissimo where quite nice.
My dear friends how can you compare such a Divas like Riccarelli and Tebaldi they are both unrepeateble?! but if you still whant to challeng me, I prefear Riccarelli!
This was sung WAY PAST her prime, but I remember her singing at the San Francisco Opera during the mid 1970's when she could not be touched by anyone in the Italian repetoire.
I was eating my sleeve through those oozing pianissimi and totally winced on that wailing high B. Been a voice teacher for more than 25 years and still can't figure out what possesses her to phonate the way she does--and HOW she has lasted this long doing so. Hell, I love her anyway.
And this performance of Mrs. Ricciarelli, as ussual, but this in particular, is just terrible...! To slow; all high notes coming from low notes, terrible vbrato...I came here searching for something good by her, but I just can't find it.
I couldn´t agree more with you. She had just a VERY SHORT perios in her career where she sang better and that was it. I think here she was so slow it boared me to tears and not well sang.
It seams like, today, the way to introduce us as music experts is to say bad thinks about Maria Callas...!Like saying bad thinks about Bartoli, as I have already heard, just because everyone love her!! I just don't understand. Callas is not perfect, as anyone, but is and brought somethink new to the opera... I like Tebaldi, of course, but she's just another tradicional, beautyfull, "italian" sound. Everybody like Tebaldi, but Callas... you love, or you hate!!
Sometimes Ricciarelli fell into the trap of overdoing pianissimi : A concert I heard in person was almost ' marked ', and I guess here she does the same. She is not in her prime in this video. Very beautiful for microphone but insufficient for a really sung role.
His tempo is so oddly slow for this aria. I am accustomed to hearing it sung a bit quicker. Katia had a beautiful instrument, but sadly she ventured into repertoire that caused some vocal ruin. It does not say what year this was, but she still sounds fairly intact. Nice job.
So not true, Tebaldi really did not have that many nuaces, no pianissimo to speak of and screamed anything above A. However, do not get me wrong I do like Tebaldi especially in Refice.
