Thanks for putting this on. I have had trouble find information about what post war Germany was really like. This fly on the wall docu really portrays what the Germans went through under the Third Reich. Its not a glossed up Hollywood style adaption for public release.
This is a remarkable document of post war Germany & the psychic shock a whole people can experience. Americans would do well to understand this is a universal risk.

For the discerning viewer: this footage IS from the early to mid 1960s (note the fashion and cars!) ... Just like everywhere else in the world (outside muslim countries), people get drunk ... The difference maybe, that it's not necessarily considered illegal to be drunk in public (unlike in the U.S. e.g.) ... That is, as long as you do not try to drive under the influence ...
I was born in 1969 and I live in Hamburg where the movie was taken. The red light district "Reeperbahn" is even still alive. Today it's what we call a party mile. Many of the prostitutes are gone because the sailors died out. A little piece of sin is available near the world famous police station "Davidwache".
It's not as bad as it looks like in the movie - and we don't know how many days the cameraman needs to take his pictures. You can see the same drunken people with the same behavior today.
they were in a state of shock after the war and woke up, snapped back into reality, and realized the madness of what happened and needed the escape of drinking every night. i would've become an alcoholic too.
This is the environment that the Beatles played in 1961 in such spots as the Top Ten Club,The Indra Club and The Kaiserkeller all dives in gritty Hamburg.
Wow, thats very interesting footage. While this was playing I was thinking, "Damn" not too long after this in 61 the beatles were playing in hamburg. They must have had some really interesting crowds.
theyre just sore 'cause the lost the war. Fucking shitbags. That's what happens when you follow one man's word blindly.

For a second, I was hoping the opening footsteps would lead into the Sex Pistol's Holiday in the Sun.

To be fair, alot of people in those video's would have lost loved ones during the war, no wonder they drowned their sorrows big time.
