I'm building a shell for my guitar amplifier and several have suggested dowel construction but i'm pretty new to woodworking. Would this be good to use for 1/4" birch?
You said shell for my guitar amplifier - I guess that you mean shelf instead. IMO 1/4" is insufficient thickness to support the weight of an amplifier. Second, the smallest dowel hole that this jig will drill is 1/4" which is the same diameter as the wood that is planned for use. I suggest at least 1/2" material and would use pocket hole construction rather than dowels. You can begin pocket hole joinery for less than $25 and find many uses for the jig in future woodworking projects.
There are 3 of these available at Woodcraft. 811564, 811565, and 124315 are economy, deluxe, and premium styles. You can find on-line at their dot com.
