  • Also...anyone else reminded of Peter Kirkland (Sealand) by hearing the UK version? eue I can see Luke and Sea-kun being friends :P -is writing a crossover-

  • I don't care which one it is...they both sound adorable~

  • The UK voice is way too high pitched, US voice is better for me.

  • The uk one sounds more like a londoner little boy

  • The us Luke sounds like a fat posh git lol

  • I'm so pleased I've found some people who share my opinion :DD

I love you, top commenters! <333

  • im baffled as to why the eu and american ones have a different voice. may as well have used the same one! i prefer the little cockney luke though, it works more imo

  • EU Luke is amazingly stereotypical. Little Cockney sparrow should be flitting around on rooftops with chimney sweeps. =)

  • WTF US one sucks, EU Luke kicks ass

  • Weirdly, even though I am in the UK, I can tell we have the US voice version. Actually, to British ears the EU version is more accurate - but sort of old school. Still, they could have just had Luke be an American child rather than put on that weird accent.. Would it really have mattered either way? I don't remember being convinced that the Curious Village was supposed to be in England or anything. It's a Japanese game after all.

  • They're both awful >_< They should have stuck with US, at least then I could attribute its badness to the voice actor being American rather than British. That would be excusable.

  • I prefer the US accent. the eu voice is fine but.. its kinda high pitched, haer me out, its a good english accent and i bet an english person did it, but i know a few 8 year old kids, about the age luke was in the curious village and each of their voices are at least an octave lower than the uk version

In the us version people say lukes voice is "posh" sounding, BUT his father is the welthy mayor of a small village and so he might have gotten his "older" more mature voice living there.

  • I prefer the American version, but I think it is one of those things were I just like it better because that is what I am used to.

  • I'll be honest, I prefer the American version, even though I'm British :P Funny ...

  • Hmm, I prefer the UK Luke, but it takes a few seconds to get used to.

'Course, I'm more familiar with the UK one, so I might be biased.

  • US one is wayyyyy better

  • Coming from the UK, i prefer the US version. The UK voice is just plain ANNOYING and WAY too cockney for my tastes.

  • man am i glad that luke sounds better in the EU/UK version.

    american luke sounds so....unatural.

  • Yep, UK one is still my favourite.

  • Of course, majority of people prefer Luke of their own regions.

Stop making silly comments criticizing both of their voices!

  • @Lazyrs9090

Most Americans hate the American voice. :/

  • @internetakias1 Most as in none, maybe. I don't hate either of them, really.

But let's just say if an American was doing EU Luke's voice, England would be screaming for blood.

  • I agree that we probably prefer the Luke that was in the version we played. I'm in the UK and I absolutely love our Luke, I really can't stand the US one. I don't like the way the actress does his voice. However, I do like how she did Emmy and Claire so I'm not saying she's terrible, I just don't like her voice for Luke. I'm glad they decided to do two different ones. When the Eternal Diva came out in the US, which Luke did you have?

  • @skulblaka92 The UK Luke.

  • Personally, I prefer the uk voice. I'm used to it more, it's a more likely voice considering Layton and Luke are both English, but both voices are the same person, so there isn't a huge difference.

  • The EU is a little too 'eh' to me. Of course I don't hate it or dislike it. I like it but prefer the US because I've heard it for years.

  • I think we're all rather biased here, based on our knowledge of the British accent and its usage and failed attempts, as well as the version that we originally started the game series with.

That being said, I have to admit that I am in the US, and I do prefer the US Luke. Reasons stated above. Plus, it just seems slightly more...in-character for me, and I adore the kid either way. However, while the UK version is extremely squeaky to me almost to the point of hurting my ears, US Luke does te

  • Coming from neither an American nor British view I prefer EU Luke's intonation but US Luke's pitch and tone. A good mixture of both and I would be happy hahah!

  • Uk luke reminds me of that boy in bedroom and broomsticks

  • Well it's just opinion's but the UK one sounds terrible to me even if its more "English" and innocent or whatever. It sounds so annoying.

  • The US one makes me cringe. It's terrible.

  • much prefer the EU accent. The US is rather... bland.

  • Why does it matter?

  • UK Luke kinda sounds like a little old lady to me. Like it's a voice a craggy old crone should have instead of a little boy. I understand it might be the proper dialect and tone and all that, but it's just not my cup of tea.

  • Yikes I prefer NA version. The EU Luke is edging on being too girly. (I realize all small children can have similar tones of voice, but at Luke's age it should become pretty obvious by voice who's a boy and who isn't)

  • I actually like the US one more. It's so bad it makes me laugh. The British one, although he's closer to an English accent of some kind, still doesn't actually speak like anyone I've ever met. Sounds like a well-brought-up boy trying to copy Dick van Dyke or something.

  • The UK voice is so much better than the American one. The US voice is just so... bad. No one in the UK speaks like that.

  • Awwwwwww! This is the first time I've heard Luke's UK voice. I like it! It's so cute :D .

  • Meh. I prefer the NA version. Say what you will about the accuracy or authenticity of the dialect, it just doesn't do enough for me to counteract UK Luke's more annoying voice.

  • I prefer the UK version because it's the one i'm used to, living in England and all.

  • Prefer US one. Sounds less annoying and childlike.

  • UK Luke sounds too whiny. No thanks.

  • UK sounds too babyish

  • @Splurgendii US one is just an American putting on a crappy fake accent.

  • From a position of just literally playing through the voiced parts that are in this video, I have to say, I prefer the EU one. I really respect Lani Minella as a voice actor, and I can't say I can tell a realistic British accent from a fake one, but after hearing the difference between the US one and the UK one, it sounds like she's applying the British stresses in all the places an American would expect her to, while the UK one is just a British person talking.

  • Good thing they gave Luke a less British accent in the American version, think of all the Americans that would rage quit as soon as they'd hear a British voice in a game.

I've heard a rumor that in America, Burger King serves soda and fries with their meals instead of tea and biscuits.

  • @VolcanicPenguin >_< Ten internets to the fine British (wo/man?) citizen.

  • In my opinion, EU version sucks. That voice ruined the movie for me and I didn't feel like switching over to subs so I dealt with it. I hope Viz has Lani Minella do the voice for Luke instead of Maria Darling. You can easily tell EU Luke is voiced by a girl. I always assumed US Luke is voiced by a girl, but my friend always thought that he was voiced by a boy until recently so...

  • Even though i'm british, I own the american versions of all the games. And i'm so used to Lukes american voice that I wouldn't be able to adjust to Lukes European voice >.<

  • omg does the person who does the voice of uk luke do a voice on those aquafresh toothpaste adverts!? if it's the same person, my mind has been blown.

  • EU luke is way better than the US luke

  • Where is Luke from in the US version?...

  • Oh wow, the EU version is awful. Way too high-pitched.

  • I think he sound like a girl in the eu version

  • @BigDaddy7O He is voiced by a girl in the US version...

  • The EU version sounds like Luke is 5.

  • The US voice is putting me right off my jellied eels

  • UK version makes him sound younger, I like US version better, but other on is ok

  • argh... Another American who tries to do a Stereotype British accent and Mega Fails... EU Luke is much better, And who cares if he doesn't sound his age, You can say that about alot of things, I mean how the fuck is Sonic the Hedgehog only 15?!

  • The Us version is shit! Why get an american to put on a british accent?? Besides the EU version is done by a british voice actor who also voice acts kids cartoons over here, sounds far better! But then I think we're all just being biased here

  • I vote *drumroll* EU luke! Us luke-WTF? Eu luke-SUCKER

  • I live in the UK and if I had to play the US version, the DS would be so out the window. I cannot stand US luke's voice, it's just so fake and painful to listen to. Sure, UK luke's voice can be a little annoying at times but I love how authentic it is and it so fits Luke's character! Although, the whole 5 year old comments I find a litle insulting as one of my niece's friends, he's 13 and has a really high-pitched voice which just hasn't broke yet and the same could be said for Luke.

  • I like how the US version makes him seem older, but the other one is awesome too!

  • EU version is better

  • omygawd. he sounds like a 5 year old in the EU version. o.o

  • I prefer the US version because Luke sounds his age, but I guess the EU version is more realistic.

  • THE EU VERSION IS THE BEST

  • Wow, Luke sounds so...middle class in the US version! I had no idea he had a different voice actor! I'm used to adorable Mockney Luke now though. :P

It wouldn't be the same without Luke's 'Professah!'

  • The UK version is because his american voice actress CANNOT do an accent. At all. I like his US voice only because I'm American, however many of my UK friends HATE it, for valid reasons that I can certainly see.

  • I like the us because it sounds his age, although the accent is a bit fake sounding.

I think the Eu version is way to cutesy, it get's annoying after a while >.>

  • I'm really not sure which one I like the best. xD

I guess US Luke sounds more mature, but with a worse british accent, and UK Luke is sounds more kiddy, with a more authentic accent.

Anyway, now I'm curious: what about professor Layton? Is his voice actor the same for both versions or not? Could somebody answer me plz?

  • @StrangeWig Layton is voiced by the same actor in both the UK and US versions of the game.

  • I like EU Luke's accent more simply because it's more believable, but I like the depth of the US Luke better. EU sounds so squeaky. |3

  • Haha, Luke sounds like Butters from South Park in EU version! It's so cute! x3

I really don't mind the US version as it sound more mature, although the UK is more cute, and, well, more British. :D

  • Hearing the differences between Luke's American and British voice make me glad to have the UK version!

  • i prefer the UK voice he sounds more cute.. and he is english anyway

  • I have to admit, I do prefer the UK version of Luke because, after all, Luke is English. His accent, despite rather annoying at times, is an actual, traditional commoner cockney accent - kinda like Oliver Twist with more fire lol.

Now, as for the whole 'he sounds too high-pitched for his age'. My little brother, who is 12, is just as high-pitched as Luke. Boys don't hit puberty as early as many believe lol. It's obvious that Luke's voice hasn't broken yet. It's realistic, unlike the US one

  • Prefer the UK version, he speaks really clearly and I think he sounds his age more, the US one is just like an American making a bad attempt at an English accent, and it would just annoy me to listen to that throughout an entire game. Listening to Americans trying to pull off an english accent is just painful...

  • @InsaneYami91

But Christopher Robin Miller doesn't seem to get complaints, and he's American as well. :P

  • @Lugiaotaku

There is an awfully big difference between those who can, and those who can't though.

And the American Luke definately can not.

I'm sorry, but I think the American version of Luke is quite painful to listen to.

  • I cannot stand the US version Dx

  • Profeeeeessah.

  • i'd say....BOTH! There both epic in there own was x3 lol,uk/eu version sounds like a english guy from my class x3 so yea,us and uk :3

  • UK is better. Clearer and is much like the a real English voice.

  • US is better.

  • @NyaHemmings ????????

  • UK Luke has a better accent.

US Luke has a better voice.

Can't we just leave it at that?

  • I like the US version better. The other one is WAY to high pitched and sounds like a little girl.

  • I'm sorry, but the American version is an insult!!

  • Sure uk luke's voice is a little high but hes only 13 and he sounds like a proper londoner + it makes him cuter :3. US luke just sounds like a us lady trying to do a cockney accent and creating an australian one instead PPL OF US WE DO NOT SPEAK LIKE DICK VAN DYKE FROM MARY POOPINS OR US LUKE (same terrible accents)

  • As a brit, the accent for the US one makes me cringe. At points it's ok, others it sounds horrendous. "I don't understaund professor, why are we going to suulve an inheritance disp-you-TE?" The english version takes time to get used to, especially in the first game, but the US one? I tried to watch one cutscene with it and ended up not watching the end of it.

  • EU version sucks because it makes him sound way too young. Just my opinion.

  • @mgvortex66 yeah but at least his voice sounds BRITISH

  • @Ussless1 I'd ragther have a non-british british accent than that annoying young voice. I swear I woulda punched my DS if I had to hear THAT voice throughout the game.

  • I like Lukes US voice better......

  • US Luke sounds fat....

  • So one is just deeper than the other. D: The boy is 12ish or something though, so the US version fits best. the EU version sounds like he'll never hit puberty until he's already 21 lol XD

  • I prefer the US version, perhaps because I'm from the US, just as I'm sure those from the UK prefer the UK dub. It just seems to me that the UK dub doesn't quite fit a 12 year old, the feminine voice is just a bit too much.

  • OH GAWD IT'S HER!

The voice actor for the EU version... I can't stand that voice, and it pops up in too many things >.<

  • UK voice is over the top damn it...

  • I prefer Luke's US voice. I think the US voice sounds over the top. He is about to clean my chimney or something.

  • I like luke's voice in the USA because the voice actress who is Lani Minella who voiced him was also the former voice of Rouge the Bat from Sonic Adventure 2 to Sonic Battle and the current voice of Nancy Drew in the PC Games.

  • US voice sounds really bad! Oh, fun fact! Luke is 13!

  • US version sounds awful, why did they even bother changing the voice in the first place?

  • I'd say the UK version anyday , AND WHAT! LUKES 12 !.. how can he be 2 years younger than me!? i just wanna cuddle him so badly haha !<3

  • Soooo definatly the uk version is better! It's more British! Yes, it's a little high and not perfect! But it's sooo cute! And it suits his personality! The us version just sounds like an American girl completely failing at trying to imatate the British accent and making luke sound like a little shit! I just want to stab the us luke in the face! Stuck up brat!!!

  • I love Luke's UK voice after getting used to it for the first three games. Unfortunately I got the US version of unwound future on my R4 card and, due to not being able to stand Luke's voice, Haven't even got past the time machine presentation! Yes, I agree that US Luke sounds more like an 11 year old boy but his fake English accent is terrible while EU Luke's cockney accent is realistic :)

  • This is one of the moments I have where I like to say 'screw you Americans!' XD I'm tired of people hacking at UK Luke, he's definitely the better one even if it's a voice that takes getting used to, I simply adore it. I'm so happy that Europe gets it's own actors, I'm sick of the games we get always being American (although I recently found out that Chris Miller who's Layton is from America - I'm gutted lol)

  • I Love Luke's voice for U.K one <3 It Sounds so much more realistic - Cockney! - it PROPER British :3

  • the UK one is so much better. i've got all three games, two of them are UK and one of them is the US version, when I played the US version i was like wtf is up with lukes voice

  • I'm just clad there is a Japanese game where the UK version has it's own actors, the only over game that did that was Ape Escape.

  • UK FTW

  • What I'd like would be a combination of UK Luke's accurate accent and US Luke's voice. UK Luke sounds like a little girl trying very badly to sound like a little boy.

  • @Amyable16 but the US version sounds like a grown women very badly trying to sound like a little boy AND put on an english accent (which she does very badly indeed)

  • I think UK Luke is better because it fits the character - as he's from London. The US one isn't really a proper English accent - it sounds strange and fake.

  • @ElectropopGoddess I think they both sound equally bad, but I'm used to the annoying US Luke by now. Plus, London Life is coming on the US version, WAZZAAAH!!!

  • i think that the uk one is perfect when luke is younger like in the movie the eternal diva but in tha games when he is older i think the us one is alot better then the uk vesion becasue that would be a pretty werid for a 13 year old boy sounding like a 5 year old just saying

  • Uks is adorable!

  • I think US Luke sounds a little better for the games we have, but in the movie (when Luke is still kind of young) I think that the UK one fits him perfectly

  • i love the us version! :D

the uk version kind of annoys me... :(

  • UK Luke sounds like an eight-year-old, US Luke sound like he's at least 11...which he is. So US Luke owns in my opinion. Even if the accent isn't the greatest, it still sounds alright to my American ears (which is what it was intended for) :3

  • Both voices sound adorable! <3

Luke is a cut little shota... =w=

  • I prefer US...he sounds like he's 5 in the UK version...he's supposed to be 13...

  • i prefer the eu version because it sounds more original

  • Personally, UK Luke seems more believable. =) US Luke just sounds like a bad impression of a british accent, much like the guy from Mary Poppins. And I like his UK voice, it's cute. XD

  • I much prefer the US Luke. He matches his age a lot more closely, and the squeaky UK version simply doesn't fit some of the more serious scenarios of the games. UK Luke sounds like Blinky Bill, I can picture him exclaiming "That's extraooooordinary!!"

  • The annoying part is, I live in NZ, i have the 3 games, but New Zealand got the US version of curious village and EU versions of pandora's box and lost future. I noticed a change in voice from the 1st game to the 2nd and 3rd. I preferred US Luke :(

  • That's weird...I could've sworn the UK Luke was different...

Either way, Luke is adorable <3

  • Uhg...That "More accurate accent" makes my ears hurt. I love British adults, but their young children just pierce your ears.

  • EU is just too classic. How can anyone not enjoy that voice. I'm glad they used it in the movie

  • I prefer the UK version, because i'm british and it's the only version i've played :P.

  • Being Australian we had the US voice in Curious Village and then had the EU voice in Pandora's Box. I preffered the EU voice even though I was already used to the US one.

  • @SarickLyre same in New Zealand, but I prefer US Luke. May not be as British, but he sounds his age, and less annoying.

  • OH GOD. No wonder I stopped playing the PL game in EU and decided to get the American one. I LOVE YOU AMERICA ; 3 ;

  • I don't like the US version, maybe because I've only played the EU version. But I like British, so I prefer the EU version :3

  • arg, that EU vioce, they do like loads of dubbed cartoons! thats it! ok, i swear that the EU person did that cartoon when its like a cave boy and a flying dinosaur, wat was it? Kit and Kantrop or sumthing like that, anyway hate that voice! are the other games like that as well? can sumone plz tell me like,

Diabolical box=EU Pandoras box=US or sumthin dont want to buy the wrong one

  • ...What? So much hate for Maria Darling. Are you even listening to the same voices as I am? EU Luke is much, much better, less cringeworthy. Even the "his voice is too high" argument isn't really all that good considering how high-pitched some boys sound even in their teens. Or maybe that was just my school...

  • UK luke sounds like he inhaled a shitton of Helium.

  • I hate EU voice >:(

  • Prefer American version. UK version sounds girlier. T_T; And like a children's morning puppet show character.

  • European version sounds like a little girl with a stuffy nose.

  • I thought the uk version would be better, but that high-pitched voice makes me want to stab luke in the face. Will luke be voiced by the same person in professor layton and the eternal diva (uk version)?

  • Lol Luke sounds like a shoe-shining, chimney sweep in the EU version.

  • The EU version obviously has a better accent but it's a bit too high pitched for my tastes. Luke sounds a bit too young.

  • How did you unlock that screen?

  • @Jimpiedepimpie ~ it's in the bonus menu. you need a certain number of picarats to unlock it!

  • @TadakoXIII oh. Thanks.

What actually happends when you fill the inn on the right spots?

  • @Jimpiedepimpie you get more puzzles to solve in the bonus-section

  • I live in the UK, and the US version just sounds like some American trying to speak in a British accent...badly.

  • @5manga5 That's exactly what me and my sister thought. XD

  • EU/UK Luke sounds more like a kid.

WICH IS A BAD THING! (That's why I have the US Version. And the Dutch version because the voices suck so bad on there that it's funny)

  • The North American one is better. Or maybe I just say that because I played the North American version of the game and became fond of his voice actor.

  • I prefer european one. More... well... british. Its set in London aswell, so.

  • I love Lukes UK voice, its really cute :3 At first the accent did anoy me but now im used to it, and I love him more <3

I think the problem with the US Luke is that his english accent is a bit dodgy and UK audiences would have definately picked up on that.

Hes 12??? Then why is he so small?? hes the cutes thing ever... and Layton is too <3

  • @cameno1001

Same with me. Once you get used to the UK voice it's so lovable and cute =)

  • @cameno1001 Ya it mentions a couple times in the series that he quite short for his age XD it's one of the jokes revolving around him, along with the fact that he eats so much X3

  • UK Luke makes me giggle. Way too high, like he's on helium.

  • UK version

  • uk sounds better but i guess thats cause im british

  • Native Brit here, and the UK version fucking sucks compared to the US version.

  • uk more... um anime like??? as in most anime charactors have high pitched voices and he sounds more like a boy :D

  • Oh God, US Luke's voice makes me want to slap him, just to shut him up. :(

  • @Kirbizard then you didnt hear the dutch one, he sounds like a squirrel with a nut in his throat

  • The UK voice is more realistic, but luke is about 12, not five. The US voice sounds more fake but it suits his age better and has a charm to it.

  • I like US version....

The UK voice sounds too young.

  • Ew, I hate the US Luke's voice. The EU voice is so cute and goes better with Luke's personality and appearance. I can't believe they got an American to do an English accent.. That totally failed. I love the EU version.. The one I have :)

  • i like uk version the most, he sounds more british but the eu version sound nothing like london, and sounds girly

  • @TheDarkshadow124 How does it not sound like a British accent? o-o

  • Oh my lord, UK Luke's voice makes me want to stab him.

  • They changed it because the American voice actor went down badly with English test audiences - mainly because the actress sounds really unrealistic. It's obvious she knew nothing of English accents, as she did Luke as a mix between a posher south-eastern London accent, and a East End cockney accents. In short the American actress is doing a poor accent that sticks out like a sore thumb. The actress in the EU version is a professional English VA, and is doing a believeable cockney accent.

  • i like the US voice

  • He sounds cute :D

  • Comment removed

  • UK luke sounds like Molly Weasley. o.O

  • UK LUKE! FTW ;)

  • DO PROFESSOR LAYTONS PLZZZ

  • EU Luke Is more cockney/londoner type thing.

US Luke sounds stuck up and sounds like a fake english accent by an american.

    EU Luke! EU Luke!

  • ughh us luke is awful UK one ftw easily
