@jody808 I think publicity was hard to put together with their horrid former manager, Al Ross, issuing court injunctions against anyone hiring them to perform while a lawsuit was pending. They did a couple of hastily put together videos for "Come Back Lover, Come Back" and 'Just When I Thought It Was Over," but again, the injunction, I think, kept music channels from playing them. A few clubs played "Come Back" and "Take It to the Top," and both of those peaked at #63 on the Disco Chart.
I'm convinced the music industry as a whole sucks. This album should have done much better than it did. This song is like an old classic but sadly this is my first time hearing it. They( the music company) had a quality group with quality music that they did not promote properly. I wish this group had found a lawyer and manager that would have looked out for the groups' best interest. Thankfully, we have media like you tube that allows us ( the fans ) to recapture this quality music. Thanks Vee
Leon Sylvers is one of my all-time favorite producers. The Contact album is great. Thank you to Unidisc for releasing this on CD. (Unidisc is one of the many reasons why I love Canada.)
Its weird how in the space of a few years the sound went from a disco/country flavour more akin to the early 70s and then to this which sounds far brighter, more mature and stylish. Its difficult to define what the changes were in terms of production but the difference in sound is dramatic.
This is a good example of transition from their 70s disco era to the 80s danceable R&B. I prefer the latter although not so successful in charts as in 70s.
lol It's all in keeping the tradition SOLAR sound much as the same was done earlier at Motown, Stax, and Philadelphia International. Besides, it was the likes of the Sylvers, Dynasty and Lakeside that served as the backbone to such a rather galactic hypnotic sound.
Solid tune with that brilliant SOLAR/Leon Sylvers production style. The label released "Take It to the Top" as the second single from this set. Would have been better to release this track. AND it wouldn't have hurt them in the least to promote this album. Their lack of effort led to "Concept" being overlooked. Too bad...it's a gem.
This track sounds like a mix of Dynasty's "do me right" and a little of "Here I am", have played this song 7 times now..........can't get enough!! (^_^)
Exactly! Like Gamble and Huff were to their Philly label. Leon F. Sylvers III was to Solar during the label's early days. The likes of The Sylvers, Dynasty, and even Lakeside were the BACKBONE to a galactic sound that definitely had a unique sound and overall appeal that just couldn't be copied during its day.
Wow. Sounds like Dynasty's "Love In a Fast Lane". I used to hear this all of the time. I bought almost every Solar record that was released between 1980 and 84. This was one of the few I didn't buy. Big mistake. Still sounds wonderful.
Capno. This is Croon3. It's so nice to know that I wasn't the only one who loved everything Solar.Leon is the "man". His music can still be played today. What is this crap on radio now. I wanted to ask you: Do you have the Klymaxx album[1982]"convince me" and the Midnight Star[1981]"I won't let you be lonely",Carrie Lucas'"just can't do without your love"?If so, hook me up.These were lost gems.
Peace my brother
Croon3
P.S. If you have them, leave me a message to let me know that you posted them.
I was playing this album a few weeks ago and now that you've posted on youtube. I realise how good it is. They sounded very Shalamarish and also like Dynasty but who care? I just love the few funky upbeat tracks on this album. Thanks for sharing...
There was so much good music in the early eighties a lot of good groups were lost in the swarm. The Sylvers just couldn't get a post-disco identity. The Sylvers' sound may have been too clean. I love the work Leon Sylvers did for Solar especially Dynasty, but he may have been a victim of his "sound". It was copied by a lot of producers thus it lost it edgedness.
Veewee.this is Croon3.The official leon sylvers production fan.If you listen to the bassline in this song and then listen to the song by the whispers called Turn me out,it's the same bassline but this is a testament to leons genius in production.
After all, he is The g.o.a.t. Also, the bassline in Shalamars I can make you feel good and Dynastys I just begun to love you is the same bassline. Thats how much a know about Leons production and Genius.Peace. Croon3.Check it out and get back at me.
it does soud like the Whispers And the Beat Goes on...however the Whispers already had the sound ...sort of...BEFORE Leon began to produce them...>I'll just say Leon helped to "enhance" their sound.
leon gave the wispers their sound as well as shalamars sound.he wrote some songs for both of them.the sylvers are way better than the jacksons.if they would have been with motown they'd still singing now.
Now that's the jam that sounds like The Whispers "And the Beat Goes On." Now for you young bucks out there, there wouldn't be the Whispers if it wasn't for The Sylver's & Leon himself. You kinda agree with me right veewee
What you just posted makes neither grammatical nor common sense. You just insulted yourself by referring to yourself as 'it'. You should have written:'I really do' rather than 'it really does'. Please thank me for educating you.
How did I miss this? Terrific song, thanks for posting. So smooth....
