  • How can you listen to this song and not feel happy afterwards?

  • It shows how out of touch some pop stars are.In 1971 David Bowie asked "Is There Life On Mars ?".....of course there was....it was full of Martians dancing and singing "Eeee eee eee eeee"

  • we used to dance and sing to this all the time with the mars rovers o n ,mars

  • Was this from 1963?

  • just heard this on sounds of the sixties... what a brilliant song

  • last time this was played on BBC Radio in UK was about 13 years ago prior to that remeber only hearing once in the 60's but remember it well.

  • Oh, yeah! The Martian Hop! Boppa ooh me me, boppa ooh me me..

    .

  • Believe me or not. But these guys right here in this song. Are my cousins. Two are dead, and one is still living. Nobody here would believe me, but still, they would be so happy to know how popular this still is.

  • @puppylover5681 : You were a cousin of the Rappaports? That is pretty neat! I loved this song as an eight-year-old. I thought I would never hear it again until I found it on YouTube! As I remember, one of the Rappaports went to Brandeis and went on to have a very successful career as a lawyer, but still treasured the experience of making this record. Which of the cousins have passed on?

  • @anelidok1 No, I am a cousin of the Rappaports. Yes, he is a lawyer...one of them. One of them died, I'm not sure when or how though.

  • @puppylover5681 Steven Rappaport died of a heart attack, quite unexpectedly. I had the great pleasure of meeting him, before he moved to Oregon, where he spent his last years. By the way he HATED this picture sleeve!

  • Respond to this video...I actually think 2 of them died. The lawyer is the one that's alive. And, I only knew 2 of them, because my dad told me about this.

  • @puppylover5681 : Are you Steven Rappaport?

  • aw geeeeez.

    I actually remember this!

  • Thumbs up if "It Came From Hollywood" brought you here.

  • when is this from? I LOVE IT!

It sounds like futuristic and really old at the same time :D

  • martians on the floor dancing to the sounds Lol

  • This version IS the original. I bought the 45 when it cane out, still have it!

  • straNge, cute and great! only knew the rocky sharpe version, but this one is outstanding!

  • I was 9 years old when I first heard the song in the summer of 1963. After that, I didn't hear it again on radio until 20 years later. Now I can listen to the song any time I'm in the mood for it. Thanks for posting it.

  • #16 on the 1963 KCBQ San Diego music survey for Aug 18

  • @RetroGoop I believe thats the position it reached on Cashbox

  • The Martian Council is reconvening in 2830 and we expect our record back!!!!

  • My friend did his own version of the Martian "hop". He'd dance around a bit, and pretend to "drop" a load on the floor and then proceed to point at it and dance around his little treasure, martian style!

    Hilarious.

We were 8 btw! and it was 1968 - you had to get your entertainment where you could it being there was no xbox or PS!

  • My daughter loves this song

  • Our 2nd grade music teacher made all of us dance to this-and it was fun :D

  • Best Goddamn song from space ever!

  • This song is powered by the elodium-pyew36-explosive-space-modulator.

  • ROFL! Honestly I thought I'd heard them all! This is great! lol Thanks for putting it up. :D

  • check out horror doo wop RETARDS WITH RAYGUNS subscribe

  • This song would blare over the huge sound system on a ride called the Swiss-Bob at Seaside Heights New Jersey. It was on Casino Pier and the guy running the ride would shout into a microphone, "You wanna to faster?" The girls would scream "NO" and the guys would scream "Yes". I forgot about that until I heard this song.

  • Somehow, this song got incorperated into my High School play. That's why I looked it up in the first place, becuase it's incredibly hard to learn when you don't know the tune and the words don't make any sense.

  • My daughter loves this song. We played it during Halloween.

  • from northWILDWOOD NJ THIS SINGER HAD JUST ONE HIT

  • @speckspeck nah son the villas is where there from

  • @hitu2 hah, calls me son when he is 43 and i, 55, but they also had a place on 24th st in n.w. ,you say tomato, i say tomato

  • I have this on a 45 somewhere! Loved this song since i was a child :)

  • This is one of those records that's so strange you have it stuck in your head forever.

I heard it for the first time in June 2000. It's been in my head since then.

  • i love this tune remind's me of my childhood......my mum gave it to me on vinyl :D

  • Haha so we totally heard/learned a "modern" version when I was in 1st or second grade.. haha

  • The song is about the people who live in villas Nj just saying = )

  • It has really been a long time since I heard this one. Thank you for posting this.

  • My social studies teacher always plays this in class lol, always shiws us old cartoons and music like this :D

  • Brilliant! My grandparents used to let me play this at their house when I was a kid. Brought back lots of happy memories! :-)

  • Omg, I haven't heard this in I think 40-something yrs, seriously! My older brother had this & Mom always put a piece of white adhesive tape with our name on whoever's 45 it was so we could take them to our friends. I have got to know who's name is on that white tape!?!

  • @crbunnny there's no name just the number "2869"

  • oh valleyscare music :)

  • Is there any tune that isn't on YouTube? I haven't heard this one for a good 25 years, the last time was on Dr. Demento's radio show in Atlanta. The chorus sticks in your mind like gum on your shoe sole. "EEE EEE EEE EEE EEE The Martian Hop!" Thanks for posting this m1. :-)

  • Best. Song. Ever.

  • @SonicFanGirl99 total. agreement.

  • We used to do hand motions to this in 2nd grade!

  • doo wop...? sounds like a square dance - LOL

  • Can't stop laughing: so awful. Where can I get a copy of the original 17 cm 45 r.p.m. record, please?

  • Ebay

  • @MrGramophone

    eBay or beverlyrecords com

  • if i look in the closet, ill probably find at least 10 copies of this record: for some reason i bought it over and over. now i look back and see i wasnt too bright, but i did like this song...

  • Well emb, it all depends. At about 70 cents a copy, you did really well if you bought them with the picture sleeve. That sleeve is quite rare now. Just the record is worth 5-10 bucks mint, so you even did well if you didn't play all of them

  • this is fantastic! :D

  • another great memory of all the fun songs I heard on my transistor radio, when I was 8 years old in 1963. The station was KSEE-1480 (K-See 1-48) in Santa Maria, CA

  • Timeless classic eeee eeee eeee the martian hop

  • I really like this song. =) haha its different.

  • This was the first 45 I ever bought. We didn't even have a record player! I used to go next door to our neighbour's house and ask if I could play it on their ancient record player. I could have played it for hours Mrs Wall was OK for 3or 4 turns then would say " OK that's enough". Adults can be so mean! Still have that record.

  • Growing up in the 50's and 60's was so much different than this NEW millenium ~ we had some very different songs back then ~ and this certainly was one of them that ranked at the TOP of my list. It wasn't played a lot on the radio but I NEVER forgot it and always thought of it as my FAVORITE doo wop song. As Bob Hope would say: "Thanks for the MEMORIES".. God bless.

  • Are these Ran-Dells the same group as Rick Randell and the Randells?

  • No, this group was comprised of Steven Rappaport, Robert Rappaport and John Spirt. I had the great honor of talking with and meeting the late Steven Rappaport. He was a gentleman if there ever was one.

Nothing is meant personally to the poster, but Steven HATED that picture sleeve!

  • aaaw! my dad used to sing this to me! :D

  • my brother put me on to this, and he has head like a martian, and skinny legs.

  • this brings back memories!

  • we love this record on mars.

  • @utahutahutah1 muahahahhaaaa

  • @utahutahutah1 It's pretty popular on Venus too

  • I was 13 in 1963 when this record was released, it was the beginning of my record collection (the 26th 45 I had ). Today I have over 50,000 45's but some just stand out more htan others, this is one of them. My 45's are all original releases, kept in record sleeves with picture sleeves separately kept in plastic sleeves.

  • I'm exactly as old as you Recordman1950 and this was one of my first 45's too ! Your firsts stay with you always - probably be humming it as I die, just like Orson Welles' "rosebud" and they'll all be thinking why's she singing like a martian . . . at a time like this !!!

  • i bought it with original sleeve for 8$ some mounths ago..

  • omg!!! so good!!!!

  • i said "Alot" not "all" :) lol

  • ill pay u lots for that 45 lol

  • that was a 50 dollar record in mint!

  • @Beatleluver1234567

Ditto The dics and jacket appear to be in mint condition. Contact me if you are willing to sell.

  • This is right up there with Star Trekkin'.

    I love goofy space stuff.

  • LOL WUT

  • I like the B side - Forgive Me Darling (I Have Lied) - very good tune!

  • For more info on this song, search Google for "The Martian (Hop) Chronicals" and you'll find a really interesting article written about 9 years ago by band member Steven Rappaport about the band and this song.

  • that's nice of you, thank you!!

  • Certainly a strange song...but you have to love it (like all doo wop)

  • The very first 45rpm I bought ,and still have.

  • Yeah, I love the old weird ones, this song along

with Big Bopper's 'Purple People Eater Meets

The Witchdoctor', Nervous Norvus' "Ape Call' and

Larry Verne's 'please Mr. Custer'. Good Stuff!

  • fantastic fun

    a classic

  • I was 11 when this came out in 1963, and being in the UK (where it never charted) theionly way I could hear this was to listen to the chart show each wek from AFN (American Forces Network) beaming from Germany. So I bought the UK single (on London American) - and I gather it's worth a fair bit of money now. Classic.

  • According to information at my disposal, depending on the condition, the record (Chairman label, No. 4403) is worth between $8 and $20.

  • This is the UK copy on London American (and in Excellent condition)..... so I'd put at least £ sterling sign in front of those figures.

  • I was 5 years old when this came out and still love it. A friend from many years ago swore the lead singer was Frankie Valli!

  • I was born in '61... for some reason I never heard this!

  • very weird but nevertheless i am strangley

drawn to it will keep on favs cheers!

  • Strange song, but nice audio on this.

  • cooooolllll ^_^

  • -FUCKIN´WONDERFUL!!!!

  • I know I should really hate this song in spades, but for some reason I wanna hear it again.

  • Brothers Steve and Robert Rappaport along with a cousin John Spirt from a small town in Jersey. When this song was popular, people swore it was Jan and Dean.....a likeness?

I can hear them singing this one. How 'bout it? Thanks for remembering this gem.
