The Kashmir valley is very small and can barely sustain itself as a independent nation. Jammu and Ladakh are not in dispute with the rest of the state. I don't deny much wrongdoing by the Indians but the Pakistanis also were wrong to invade Kashmir in the first place, which led to the Maharaja acceding to India in the beginning. This was highlighted very recently by many Kashmiri freedom groups based in London.
Also, India should have followed the pleibiscite (I admit that as an Indian) and Nehru shouldn't have imprisoned Sheikh Abdullah, but now its too late for that.
Too many divisions and interests within the state to really give credibility to that. Abdullah himself realized in the 70's that the Plebiscite was dying, if not dead.
Today, what's more important is for better policies in Kashmir than what India has done before, regaining the trust of local Kashmiri Muslims, including maintaining the article of autonomy they have in the constitution (though this bothers other patriotic Indians badly) but reality must trump ideology here.
On the other hand, Pakistanis need to stop living in the 50's and 60's and realize contemporary realities. Indian Kashmir is too fragmented for any real "independent nation".
Most Pakistanis (like Indians) need to lose their delusions about Kashmir and start getting realistic.
That is, finalize the LOC as the border and integrate the Northern Areas and "Azad" Kashmir into the country, while perhaps working with India towards integration between their portions of the actual valley.
Re-naming the Northern Areas as "Gilgit-Baltistan" and providing it with provincial rights is a good step they've taken on this so far.
Neither the Kashmiris or Pakistanis will ever accept the LOC as an international border. This only indian people's dream. You cant ignore Kashmir, no Kashmiri or Pakistani have ever forgotten about Kashmir, only indians wnat us to forget about Kashmir. Kashmir is the center of indo-pak conflict. Settle Kashmir and there'll be peace in South Asia.

india is just a big country with a billion people, it is several times larger than pakistan. The GDP/capita is the same. With the size of india it should be in the G8 let alone G20. When US attacked Afghanistan, Pak informed them to let them secure borders but US was in such a hurry that they started bombing and guess what, layers of Talibans crossed the border and moved to Pak. All you ppl are forgetting that 20 years ago the US saw the Taliban and Al Qaeda as HEROES when they defeated the Soviets now they see them as devils. US becomes your friend only when it needs something and then it eliminates and we Pakistanis are not going to fall for that trap.
Every 10-20 years US needs a new enemy..first the Germans, then the Soviets, and now Islamic "extremists".
US is the biggest terrorist on the planet.

Well CIA intelligence OLD the US that when Congress was deciding to fund Afghanistan in fighting that war against the Russians, that chances are they would turn on the US.
The US did not care because the so called real enemy at the time was communism.

And everybody in the US thinks OSAMA and MULLA UMAR are in Pakistan but isnt ur own general say tht taliban control 70% of Afghanistan so they will be in Pakistan where they control only 0.02% of the land which they r going to loose in the next 2 weeks and the US wanted us to go to North Waziristan first where there groups which support Afghan Taliban. the only reason y US is with Pakistan is b/c 80% of their supplies go from Pakistan and there is no other cheaper way to reach Afghanistan

I think that Obama should make a strong, strong attempt to snatch Osama Bin Ladin, but only if Pakistan gets on board.
Plus, if we can get Pakistan as a strong ally then it will no doubt ease tensions between India and Pakistan, also Islam and Judaism.
That said, I want at least a military 4 times as weak as it is now, give the money to education.

It would be a very short debate. All Obama would have to do is strole up to the stage and say "Bin Laden" into the mic then step off the stage. We could all watch Fox News lose their fucking minds even worse then now. Glen Beck would probably fake a heart attack while sobbing that America is dead.
Rush would probably say that Osama was a just a scapegoat and pledge his support for terrorists.... oh wait. he already did that.
