  • It would be nice if someone with info on the band could do a Wikipedia page I've added them to the list of things titled "into the fire" and given the Virgin catalogue number. You will get more info on the band if you search google for the album " Good Evening Yugoslavia" sorry I can't post a link here.

  • I searched for years for this, I used to have it on an old edition of the Max Headroom show (the one were he just topped and tailed the music vids and did one short interview not the chat show style one) that must have been 1986 or so. I thought it was a great song and video, the video is elsewhere on you tube as is a full version of the record played from the vinyl. There may also be a remix somewhere, I have seen references to it but haven't located an actual copy.

  • This brings back a few memories. Gordon Riddell is the guy playing the Simmons pads. I was the drummer in his previous band, Rhythm Method, and I was sorry to hear that he died some time back. Gordon was a great songwriter and it's a shame that he didn't go on to make it big. You can check out Rhythm Method's only single by searching youtube for 'Rhythm Method Diana'. Thanks for posting this.

  • Good Song..!

  • Cool! SIMMONS and a Jupiter 8!

  • this got tons of play in the gay clubs

  • Hi:.... I have the album (Good Evening Yugoslavia - on Virgin Records - Cat. No. 2379). It's in extremely good condition. Also have the 12" extended/remix of this track......... I was a DJ on Lawn Guy Land back in the '80's into the '90's when New Wave ruled the roost. Worked at The Angle in Mineola, Malibu in Lido Beach and Spit in Levittiown......... Still have all my vinyl and CD's from 'back in the day....... Cheers from South Florida !....... Kenny

  • StrikeSkunk I thought the same thing.

  • Gordon Riddell ithe lead guitarist is my uncel its great to now people liked his music

  • I've featured the band on my blog called Mine For Life - just search under Hitlist

  • this track is available on the 80's alternative cd been looking for the track years but I didn't know the bands name and there is a heck of a lot of music from the 80's with fire in the title thanks for posting this . Now can some one post the original vid please

  • i too bought it on 12" after seeing it on Max headroom. never saw them on Saturday live though, even though i thought i watched it every week. don't know where the record is any more and seem to recall it being better than this rendition here. had forgotten they were called hitlist until i did a search on the song title.

  • Thanks for posting this vid, I haven't heard it in years. I remember seeing the original promo vid they did on the Max Headroom show. Takes me back.

  • i remeber seeing a video for this song a long long time ago. Have not hears this for years thx for posting

  • I've this on a 12" vinyl.....I just love the intro....

Love the whole song actually.... Brill.

    thanks fro posting..

  • This track was written by my uncle his name was gordon riddle, sadley he died a few years ago aged 46. they released the song the same week as the bradford fire disaster and virgin pulled it from the charts. he was friends with the guys from maddness and they helped him in the production

  • I never heard of it apart from this programme, but I didn't realise it was because it was pulled- really bad luck there. Didn't know the guys from Madness were involved though. Thanks for your comments.

  • I'd been looking around on the web for some Hitlist tracks & came across this posting. Tho I'm pretty shocked to hear that Gordon Riddell died some yrs back. I'd been a girlfriend of his for about 3yrs when he lived in Archway, London. I'm gonna look for some of th'pics I'm sure I still have of him & wondered if you'd like me to send you some when I locate them? I'd be very happy to email them to you-he was a great guy, am very sorry to hear that he died.

  • Hi,

Did you ever find the photos off Gordon Riddle?

    Derek

  • @biguppercut --Hi Derek-Oh yes I did. Can I send them to you somewhere?

  • @vjonesgo that would be wonderful do you have a email address i could send my Address to?

  • Great vid, have you got any more?

  • The Disconet edit of "Into the Fire" was a huge, showstopper HI-NRG megahit at The Saint in New York City and on Fire Island Pines. The coda/chorus was extended and built to an amazing crescendo/climax. The live performance here has some personality but the remix edit turned it into something dark and brooding. An absolute 80's dance classic. Great memories and thanks for the post.

  • it is Borat of the 80"ssss

  • mar balavoine aux synth drums !!!

  • BORAT!!!!

  • True, but neither does the dictionary definition usually specify any particular musical qualities. Supremely cheesy they are, but I didn't hear of them at the time, nor since, hence they are more obscure to me than some indie bands like, say, Stump, were are the time.

  • i'm sorry but when i look at the dictionnary for the word "obscure", they don't mean sugar synth pop or comemrcial kitsch stuff like this one.

  • I can't believe this, I have been searching the Internet for this song for about 4 years on and off. I am trying to get hold of the Max Headroom Video Shows and this song featured on what I think was the first episode. I would love a copy of the mp3 or video of this if it's available!

  • i didnt know the name of the song or the group..i taped it on the radio and came across it and searched all over the internet like you.i thought the name was " i call your name" when i searched it on google like a million things came up..i made my own video to try to find this info out--80smusic lyrics got me the answer

  • I have the original 7" vinyl release of this song, which I have converted to MP3, it sounds far, FAR better than this live rendition! I also have (I think) the original video, where the band are all sitting on a couch watching TV and throwing stuff at it. I don't recall ever having seen them perform live before! I understand they originated from Australia...

  • I love this, i bought it on vinyl, and had never seen it performed live.

    Thanks.

  • i hate how synthpop went from really cool and abit gloomy in the late 70s/early 80s to this type of shitty commercial junk in the mid 80s

  • nice vid! the band is indeed called Hitlist, however the song is called "Into The Fire." i've never seen this live performance before. thanks for sharing :)

  • Because there was no title on the screen, I was wondering if it was called something like that, or even "Blindfold". Thanks for the info, gobler.

  • BTW Do you have any more info about Hitlist or a link?

  • as far as i know, they had one single "Into The Fire" and had one album called "Good Morning Yugoslavia." here are some pics of the single:

  • I love this song, bought it when I was a kid and there was a follow up single called 'Sin Bin' if my memory is correct.
