haha i firured out the thing in 0:21....spending 30 to find out!! it just a masked out sunglasses motion tracked to his face!!!! if you pay attention when he takes his hands down the glasses reflection has a frame rate lagg! and the glasses moves....just saying

@savoneo I would guess it's all masking. The pumpkin was done with a shot of the empty table superimposed over the video, which included the pumpkin, then masked out as his hand moved. the face also looks like it cuts to a still image of just his face, that is masked off to reveal the actual video, which is him wearing the glasses. The face w/o the glasses is just an image. That would be my guess anyways. Well done vid!

@ShadowBattler When you're making visual effects, it's actually not called editing: it's called compositing. Editing programs are for putting clips together, which is what Final Cut is for. Most people bring single clips into compositing programs, composite them, and then bring them into final cut for editing. A good compositing program is Apple Motion, available on the Mac App store, but the industry standard is Adobe After Effects. One other he MAY have used is Cinema 4d, for making 3d models.

@ShadowBattler 3D models are things like giant transformers. They are animated in their program, and then brought into After Effects to put into the clip. Then that clip is brought to Final Cut for editing. Some great 3D modeling programs are 3DS Max (Windows only), CInema 4D, and Maya. Personally, I prefer to use Cinema 4D, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Premiere Pro. I use Premiere Pro over Final Cut because it works more easily with After Effects, and it's more up to date. The student/teacher edition is only $450, and it comes with Premiere Pro (editing), After Effects (compositing), Photoshop (duh), Audition (sound) Flash (animation), Illustrator (drawing?), On Location (filming to computer) and Encore (burning movies to discs). There are others, but I believe they are free downloads, not sure. I highly recommend this pack if you are looking to make movies.

hey awesome man.hey i have a question about after effects. whenever i do a ram preview of a video, it says "not real time" and then the video gets laggy when the finished product is done. when i send it to youtube its fine, but what if i need to match video with audio? since its laggy i cant hear anything. please give me some advice.

@Jayronimo123 I don't have after effects but I assume it is because A) you don't have enough RAM. or B) You have to many other programs open that takes up your RAM. for video editing you should have at least 4 GB of Ram. But thats just a guess. Good Luck!

that's a pretty good job with the vfx, but I'm pretty sure I know how you did it. You captured a blank shot of the pumpkin, then you carved one of the eyes out, then put it back in. Then you masked out the place where it was cut and made a motion mask to make it look like it was being cut. Then you added in the laser digitally. To make it look like it was falling out, you either masked out somebody pushing it out, or you pulled it out w/ fishing twine. Pls. Respond if I'm right!
