This is the year Jordan peaked athletically IMO. In 1989 it looked like he was playing with rockets attached to his shoes. His first step explosiveness was incredible.
No matter how many time I think I've seen it all from #23, he always amazes me with his unparalleled all-around game. The most COMPLETE player I've seen by far... He literally could do ANYTHING!!
One of the Greatest Shots & Sequences at the Conclusion of this Game nobody had Moments like Jordans! The Cameras flashing even on Free Throws like a Messaihs is playing Basketball. Epic Game !! Jus like John Paxson said watching Michael was an Honor only he got to Play on the same Team with him. Kobe has moments that are Great but, not Epic!!! Jordan allday !! & Forever..
in my top 10 of best games. in an amazing atmosphere, bucks play very well but but MJ forces the destiny, 27 4th QT pts with one of his top 3 game winner IMO
He definately should have won MVP award this year as well. He came extremely close to averaging a triple doube with over 30 PPG Season I might add. Thats Oscar Robertson close. I honestly feel like the NBA wanted to squeeze in a few MVP awards to Magic to compete with Birds 3 consecutive MVPs. You have to remember even now with MJ putting up these huge numbers he was still considered a one man show at this time. This was still the Laker/Celtic era. MJ sealed GOAT status when he 3peated.
How the hell was he not MVP this year. Also lead the league in steals?? Who's judging this award..Helen Kellar..I mean WTF. Just look at the stats..sometimes I feel winning a title really shouldn't hold as much weight as it seems especially when the team is allstar packed
Watch the win over the knicks by the heat where wade had 24 points in the 4th quarter and they won by 3, they were down by 13 wiht 8 minutes left, the crowd went bonkers
or the 3ot win over the bulls wade had 48
or the win in 2006 over the #1 seed pistons that won 64 games the year the heat won the title, they were eliminated ECF the year before and wade dropped 24 in the 4th plus the gamewinner for 42 points and the crowde went bonkers
Amazing performance. I've never even heard of this game or seen it in Jordan's highlights. Shows how great MJ was, this game would have been the num1 highlight for 99.99% of nba players
I Saw michael jordan at the mlwaukee bucks game yesterday. He was on the big screen and everyone was all happy i was shocked :] He still looks the same.
MJ's FG% with a hand in his face.. around 50%... With no hand in his face.. right around 65%. PPG at around 45 if he played in the 84-93.... and maybe around 38 PPG if he played in the 96-98 years..
Its almost scary how amazing MJ was. As great as Lebron is, its almost insulting for them to even be compared. MJ is just on a whole other level. Greatest athlete of all-time in my opinion.
@NastyNasIllmatic Lebron isn't even as good as Dwayne Wade, who in turn, isn't quite as good overall as Kobe. Kobe is FAR below Jordan, for the simple reason that his defense is galaxies away from Michael's dominance at the position. Not to mention that while Kobe's offense is superb, neither is it as near Jordan's level as it is often portrayed.
@NastyNasIllmatic completely agree. People compare Kobe to MJ all the time and the thing is that they're games are completely different. Kobe has always shot way more 3s and although he does post-up now, he doesn't do it nearly as often as Jordan did at the end of his career. Not to mention Kobe is a career 46% shooter. MJ was over 50% before he played in Washington. MJ knew his game and knew that nobody was going to stop him. Kobe tries to impress people by scoring in difficult ways.
If there ever was one player better than everyone else on the court then it was MJ. He must have been made in a God-like image to play professional basketball.
H.E. wrote: "A most amazing stat was that MJ was shooting 55% for the year this deep into the season for 7th place in the NBA in FG% while scoring 34.2 ppg."
This sounds dumb but the '87-'89 Jordan is my favorite Jordan! Probably because athletically he was at his absolute peak during these years. He often reminds me of a panther or something. Quickness, Grace, Power, he had everything..
There is NOTHING dumb about that..I'm a huge Jordan fan and I believe he was in his true prime in '89. Ofcourse, since he hadnt won a title yet at that time you'll never hear anyone say the '89 MJ was the best one..its either '93 MJ or '96-97(which is insane to say if you followed him closely).
In '89 he was the complete package..physically and mentally superior to all. Honestly, if you put the '89 MJ in todays league he would shut the it down..no joke. Without the handcheck and rough play, he would own this league like a college player going back to high school and playing.
that last play was hilariously awesome like something bugs bunny would do in looney tunes. crosses the first guy so bad he just gives up, shakes a second guy who then falls to the ground with a broken ankle. shoots over a giant who trips over his fallen teammate. the shot goes in as the tangled teammates' jaws drop.
The Best Shot Ever!!! Nobody can do that again!!! Jordan was so calm even there were only few seconds left, three players could not stop this final shot!
ur right those numbers are crazy he had the whole package..boy the chicago fans always got their money worth..mj was more than worth the admission price alone
look how far he shot his ft..he had a phase in which he did this, dunno why though. i luv the reaction when Jordan kills the game "YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!" lol no one provides this kind of excitement anymore
MJ would experiment with his FTs every year because he wanted to hit 90%. If you see through the years, it was always a little different, the stance, the distance, the twirl etc.
whatturns me off are those incessant bickerings about whether kobe or jordan should get the nod.MJ is the king of basketball and Kobe Bryant's, LeBron James Dwayne Wade's will never live up to Jordan's legacy because they don't have that much drive and passion.Period
I am from China.I am 26 years old.I like MJ very much. Now I can watch the NBA live in TV. As far as Kobe (or ayone else) vs. Jordan--you cannot describe what a HUGE difference the new rules, especially hand-checking, make. Kobe is amazing, but with Jordan's strength, speed, and relentless attack, just imagine what he would do to the Suns "just resting until we get to shoot again" defense. Hoopsencyclopedia had a great post about the Pistons defense on Jordan-how do you think D-Wade or Kobe would react if the help defense could run over and slam a forearm shiver in their chest?
2000 Finals: 36.7% shooting (5 gm, 6 for LAL) 2001 Finals: 41.5% (5 gm) 2002 Finals: 51.4% (4 gm) 2004 Finals: 38.0% (5 gm) hm, I think you're forgetting some really bad playing. Or maybe you'd like the individual games like you gave us. How about 4-20? 8-27? 7-22? 8-25? 7-21? 4-13? 10-27? ....
wtf are u talkin about, kobe has 3 championships at 28, jordan didnt have 3 at 28. kobe plays to win championships. jordan is fucking bad, but so is kobe, kobe is close to jordan, admit that and give him his dues
The reason why Jordan didn't win a championship till he was 28 was because of a certain team from Detroit. At least Jordan would not relent until the Bulls finally swept them in 1991. Kobe, as far as I know, never faced a defense so tough as the Pistons'. That's what makes Jordan great--he also played to win championships, too, but the better team always cut his season short. Besides, Jordan didn't enter the NBA from high school like Kobe did.
Yea No one is better than Jordan. NOONE. I agree the hand check rules does favor the offensive players today. To me Kobe and Lebron r overrated way more than Wade; Wade, when healthy is the best player in today's gm to me. But u r right TBlake Jordan would have a field day in today's league. He would probably avg like 50 ppg. Lol. Against the tougher d of yesteryr he(37 ppg) almost avg. 40 a gm.
Yes, Michael is in a class with pretty much just Jerry West and Elgin Baylor in terms on players who stepped it up in the Playoffs, but Michael was much more efficient than either.
And 27 in the 4th... I'm pretty sure that that's only outdone by Wilt's 100 pt game 4th (31 pts), and that's unfair because the whole team was trying to feed Wilt the ball.
Yeah, that ONE GAME was awesome. <rolleyes> Guess Kobe fans will hold onto that half a quarter forever. Never mind how he got badly outplayed that series by a 54 year old Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose. Jordan was never outplayed by ANYONE (opponent or teammate) in any playoff series in his career. Kobe's already been outplayed many, many times in series.
Yo hoops by the way, it's 27 in the 4th. Also, I've compiled an entire database of 50+ point games since 86-87 onward with totals, percentages, etc from year-to-year, decade-to-decade along with a Game Score stat for each game. Check m2 if you're interested, i'm sure you'd find it useful.
Another one soon. I've been working on a compilation mix so it's been taking a while so I'll have to put a game up in the meantime. Thanks and don't worry!
To me the thing that seperated Mike from everyone else i history is that the fact that his production increased in the playoffs. 33.4 ppg in the playoffs compared to 30.1 ppg in the reg. season. Not to mention that both his assists and rebounds per game were higher in the playoffs as well. Futhermore the myth that he couldn't shoot early in his career, is the reason why these videos need to be shown. Thanks alot hoops.
Yep this is to good hoops. Yea its funny to hear people say MJ didnt have a jumper. I laugh cuz u r a dumb ass to think that. He has the best jumper I ever seen as well. Get video. Keep them coming. MJ the greatest ever.
Hoops I know you've seen a lot of footage so I wanted to ask you, who do you think was the better jump shooter - Michael or Larry? Someone was asking me about this.
Sports Illustrated, in their 1991 "Man of the Year" issue, said of Jordan: "He's the best jumpshooter in the NBA. Bird is better from deep, but from 21 feet and in, he's without peer."
MJ's jumpshooting was overshadowed by his circus moves in his early years. Woolridge said he was the best jumpshooter he ever saw and that was 1985. Bird was a better pure shooter from deep and when open. MJ was the best in the mid-range and at creating and hitting his own J.
man, that jumper at 1:41 was the stuff of legends. the speed the power, just watching it makes me think what would happed if he saw dwight in a real game! whoa thanks hoops. do you have the games where he hounded the top dog to death? it's no disrespect, i just want to see some REAL d b/c ron kobe and wade aare getting on my nerves
if there were five michael jordans on one team it be like watching basketball in heaven

Thanks alot hoops.

that's right, the playoff production is way more important ,and that's when team play some real defences, and fight for each point.

man, MJ and his buzzer beaters...gotta love it
nice video hoops.
JCizzle493 4 years ago
Yeah det916, that would be an AWESOME game to showcase -- 44 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists in 33 minutes! Plus, I've never seen it. ;)

Hoops, do you have Jordan's 40+ in 3 quarters against the Run TMC Warriors from 1990? I believe that was Jordan's best from 3 point land (7-12).
det916 4 years ago
Yep this is to good hoops. Yea its funny to hear people say MJ didnt have a jumper. I laugh cuz u r a dumb ass to think that. He has the best jumper I ever seen as well. Get video. Keep them coming. MJ the greatest ever.

Hoops I know you've seen a lot of footage so I wanted to ask you, who do you think was the better jump shooter - Michael or Larry? Someone was asking me about this.
sfhguibnbhq 4 years ago
Sports Illustrated, in their 1991 "Man of the Year" issue, said of Jordan: "He's the best jumpshooter in the NBA. Bird is better from deep, but from 21 feet and in, he's without peer."
jordanlover23 4 years ago
MJ's jumpshooting was overshadowed by his circus moves in his early years. Woolridge said he was the best jumpshooter he ever saw and that was 1985. Bird was a better pure shooter from deep and when open. MJ was the best in the mid-range and at creating and hitting his own J.

Keep them coming hoops you are a legend. Do you have a classic MJ game with the trailblazers between 87-89. You're stuff is off the hook dude.
Huggins293 4 years ago
Forget that. I wish someone would post his first homerun as a Chicago White Sock.

Tashi0106 4 years ago
He did. He scored more than half of his points in the 4th quarter.
