If you're not getting worthy results out of this build... Try not cleaning the connection hangars where they cross each other. If anything, you could add insulation here.
You really should invest in some better side cutters, lol.... Get a good pair of Klein or something, it sucks using cheap ones you have to be superman or rotate the wire like you did. ;)
THANKS MAN!!!!!!1 I just tried it, but just let me say this, DO ISOLATE THOSE WIRES!!! I didn't do it, and I was struggling A LOT to get a decent signal for most of my channels, before I used to get 9 channels where 2 were in HD and the rest in crappy analog signal. After I did that now I get 17 channels and 9 of them are in HD!! I mean, I live in Mexico but I also get channels from the US (I live in Tijuana lol) BUT I know I can get around 22 lol anyways, other than that, it works great, THANKS
Hey thanks for the tutorial! I used it to make one myself. I works MUCH BETTER than the antenna that I spent 40 dollars one! With the one I built I was able to pick up a good signal on a PBS station 45 miles away with the antenna at ground level. The store-bought one would barely even raise a signal at all on that same station.
Amazing. It seems to not do much for distant VHF but I only live about 4 miles away from our local station's towers, so this antenna will do just fine for local VHF.
@F479999999999 PLEASE NOTE: If you clean the long, crisscrossing wires completely ... AND they are permitted to make contact where they cross (intersect) ... you will have defeated the entire idea of utilizing those precision-length radial spokes. If you're going to clean the entire lengths of the crisscrossing wires, THEN you should insulate them where they cross. The crossing wires should NOT be permitted to touch/contact each other.
Wow! :) Thank you so much. I already had a look at the metacafe one before looking at yours, but I find yours waaaay more helpful! So I'm going to give this a try today and hopefully it works like yours.
made this antenna exactly with copper wire, whole 9 yards. doesn't even bring in channel 2 or 11 which are free pub brodcast. So I have to get a digital box? from someplace? Does one have to pay to make that box work? I built the antenna so I could have a antenna work for my portable 7 inch brand new digital tv for the camper. IT DIDN"T WORK????
NOOOOOOOOOooooo! you specifically do NOT want to clean off the sections where the two sides of the antenna cross. if anything you want to put something between them to make sure they dont conduct. if they touch thats almost as bad as just screwing the ends of the transformer directly to eachother!
@jalene150 - essentially it's a cordless drill with a 1/4'' hex #2 phillips screwdriver bit mounted in the jacobs chuck (often they have magnetic or spring-grip hex holders instead of a jacobs chuck). And I say 'essentially' because dedicated screwdriver units have adjustable torque settings on the drive so you don't twist the heads off the screws, as an electric drill might. Google DeWalt.
Congratulations ¡ I ve made the antenna, and function very well... I didnt have many expectations.. My Tv is analogic, the image with this antenna is better than electronic antenna . By the way, the transformer costs me U$0.48 (48 cents..) New transformers , I buy 2 tranformers
I wondered the same thing, Iortrek. I've been a TV antenna hobbyist, on & off, for about 55 yrs. & have examined many commercial antennas in order to build my own, with some success. The commercial versions of "99's" array, fm the VHF stacked conical, to the UHF version, all keep the harness wires sepa-rated where they cross, but, apparently, it works his way as well. Want to try the fractal by psb2usa. Heard of 2 bike wheels working on VHF in '69! Forgiving medium sometimes. Good luck!
No, actually if you isolate them it will give you a weaker reception and at best have a very minimal reception loss. In the video I mention for best results to shave off any not conducting coating of the hangers or the metal you wish to use( In the hopes of minamizing the loss of picture and sound quality ).
Thanks for the question I hope it helps :)
I encourage you to try it if you have the means both financially and time wise. Dont forget to have fun with it :)
where the two 20" vertical wires overlap, don't they have to be isolated from one another by some non conductive material such as electrical tape or cardboard ?
@F479999999999
do this homemade antenna also work for ordinary analog TVs, and receives many channels after scanning? please tell me. i wanna know why.
BTW, i'm from the philippines.

Built one today, was getting 75% on a digital convertor box. Now, it's 30%.
And don't get me wrong, that's better than the 15% I was getting, but I miss my 75%.

can we still use this to an analog TV?

note:
1) this is a uhf antenna, it will only work for channels 14-69. if you have vhf signals (channel 2-13) you need a vhf antenna.
2)this antenna is directional and should be pointed in the direction of the signal. its a strong antenna front and back but its weak on the sides.

@jalene150 it has a motor and spins it for you or a screwdriver bit in a drill but a regular screwdriver workes just fine

Less than 5 bucks. The transformer can be found at the Dollar Store.
