Hey sorry I do all This with my phone but i don have the 2 folder is on 10:36 mine cant you with mee other link for download. thanck.!! I need pleassse becouse my phone is no working.
@wademvp96 If you are still on 2.1 you have to flash Android 2.2 first. You can see how that is done in the video "How to get a Defy back to life that doesn't boot"(don't be confused by the title, you need to go through exactly these steps), it is not that hard. When 2.2 is flashed you can go through the steps in this video if you want to install 2.3.4 (although exactly this ROM isn't available anymore, take a look at the link in the video description for the new one).
question: how do you install the 2nd init with super one clic or the settup menu with the vol down.. without having any ROM running, i mean my phone is like.. CLEAN and i just get the big orange M and thats it.. how do i install an app without android OS.
I don't know what you did so that your Defy isn't booting (there is always an OS on the phone, you just can't access it now). You can get to the stock recovery menu by pressing power and vol down for some seconds, then you see a little green robot, press the volume buttons again and you get the option to wipe data.
But if it doesn't work and you can't boot, you have to flash a (Froyo) sbf again.
@MUSTANGQUIROZ I would always recommend the Nordic Froyo; I think it doesn't make that much of a difference of you really live in scandinavia or not (I always use it although I don't live there, but I'm not so far away). It is supposed to have some advantages, I forgot what they were.
The download link I used to use is dead now, I think this should be the same: goo. gl/FRQVg
Hi, exelent gob! I got Ginger installed just fine with your instructions Thks!!
I have one issue, when I want to Set up screen Lock, I get an error "The application Setting (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
@diderotBB I don't use this ROM anymore (moved on to Android 4.0.3... ;).
I never had problems with the lockscreen, but I never use lockscreens in general. The error sounds quite strange, maybe you need to use an alternative lockscreen.
Hey @Arjoma92, your friend here @Niteeshkanungo from XDA, was wondering, do we have any video to Install Nightly From/to Nightly for CM7 and CM9? Just a bit curious because many of the newbies usually Wipe Full system data for Every new Installation of Nightly's.. :) If not Ping me, will make one with the release of new release.. :)
I'm not sure if there are really so many people installing nighties and don't know that they don't need to wipe data. (And it wouldn't be very exciting to show how to install a zip from SD :-) )
I haven't planned a new video at this moment, if you want to, just make one! I'd like to watch it :p
@feddryredline@feddryredline File? You had to create a folder on the sd card and name it "clockworkmod", and inside this empty folder you have to create another new folder with the name "backup". And into this backup folder you have to copy the folder that was inside the zip you downloaded (exactly as it it is, with the .img files etc. in it). If you do it exactly this way (as it's described in the video I think) the folder in the backup folder will show up in the restore menu automatically.
@julioaze Thanks, didn't notice that it is gone (I don't know why). I put a link to another xda thread into the video description, it looks to be quite similar (especially MS2Ginger 2.0 Lite is probably pretty much the same). But I haven't tried these ROMs myself.

@Pogibana soc? As the tiltle says, this is Gingerbread, exactly the software that the newer Defy+ comes with, running on the older original Defy which won't get an official Update.

my phone is not starting at all, its stuck on android logo
@rizwannaik2004 You just flashed the sbf like usual, was that successful? What you may try is to hold vol down and power when powering on so you get the recovery menu with the little Android where you press tje volume buttons again to see the options to wipe data. Do that and try rebooting again.
If it doesn't work you have to try another sbf (I always used Nordic Froyo amd never had any problems).
@rizwannaik2004 Both happens automatically. When flashing the clean firmware is done the phone should be exactly as you bought it, so every bit of Sndinit, root, the other ROM will be gone and it is impossible to see that is has ever been there.
@rizwannaik2004 Have a look at this list of downloadable firmware files: and-developers. com/sbf:defy . Under the Fro yo 2.2.2 section there is also a link for India (I assume that this is about the version that was on your Defy originally) . If you download the file from the mirror (a .gz, you have to decompress it first, i.e. with WinRAR) you can use the program RSDLite for the PC (from here goo. gl/fDGxr ) and flash it.
@rizwannaik2004 How flashing the sbf file works and looks like: shown at the end of my Defy+ ROM tutorial (just with another file but the process how to go into boot loader mode on the phone, connect it to the PC and selection the firmware in RSDLite there is the same.
It may take some minutes but after it'svdone the phone should reboot and give you a clean stock original Froyo firmware (I did this several times already, of course not with the Indian firmware ;)
@rizwannaik2004 So is this a newer version than the one you have currently installed? (I suppose it is as it was offered as an update... but I didn't know that the ROM would do such system updates that way). I hope there are directions how to install it? Then I would just follow them and see what happens :-)
@rizwannaik2004 So the version you're on right now is Android 2.1 and you're sure there is an official update (probably 2.2)? It sounds rather strange that there are still ota updates by Motorola for the Defy.
But if it comes from Motorola it can't be bad to update and get the official higher version without rooting or flashing, of course you don't get Gingerbread through this.
this acutally worked :) i was afraid i did something that deleted AndroidOS so i re did all and erased all chache... reboot and after the 16th time it decided it was enough suffering and gave me gingerbread.. though i did get 2.3.7 from somebody else.. but other than that, works hell allot faster than before :D
@rizwannaik2004 An update notification? I don't know which typen of update you mean as you didn't tell me what it said. It would be helpful if you would give more information, e.g. what is currently running in your Defy.
@aly1996zip Before you can install the ROM you have to be on Android 2.2. But it is not very difficult, you can just flash the firmware with RSDLite on the PC.
Well my friend after doing all this research and distruction i thing my defy is slow now i wanna go back to ur rom motogingerms2-released.zip pls help me how to install ur rom again
@rizwannaik2004 I don't know exactly what you did but you can always go through the same installation process again (the one in the video you already did before, and as your phone is probably still rooted, the recovery menu is there and the folders are still on the SD card, it should just be going into the recovery menu, wiping, restoring the system, flashing the fixed sbf with RSDLite). But maybe even a simple "factory reset" already improves.
@rizwannaik2004 Sony Bravia Engine: a technology by Sony which should improve the screen quality on SE Android phones, especially when watching images or videos. As it is software based someone has figured out how to hack it on other phones like the Defy (by changing some files in the system folders, did you read the xda thread about it?). There may be a small difference (a bit sharper/ more colorful images) according to the comments in the xda thread. I didn't do it,don't think it will do much.
@rizwannaik2004 I suppose you haven't recalibrated the battery after installing the new ROM? Use the app "battery calibration" from the market for this.
The power consumption of CM7 may be a bit higher indeed, another thing I use t o reduce it is the app !setvsel" which lets you set lower voltages of the CPU (another tipp: set 27vsel for 300MHz on the app and check the box "limit to vsel1 when screen is off").
@rizwannaik2004 It is petty hard as this standard Motorola ROM doesn't have theme support.
The only thing you can do is editing/changing the PNGs in the system ui apk (copy it with root explorer, transfer to the PC, extract the right image, change it and put the modified apk back into the system folder...). I have done this before but you see it's not really easy.
The early CM9 (Ice cream sandwich) I'm currently running is not final yet, not always 100% stable and the camera doesn't work.
My favorite stable ROM: MIUI which always worked best for me. And I would even take the so called Galnet MIUI ICS (I made a video about it) which says ICS but it is more a 2.3 ROM.
1> can i delete unwanted application like accuweather, dspmaneger, icecreamsanwitch, nexus prime bootanmation live wallpaper, oi filemaneger, turover free..... using root explorer
if i delete these application, it effect my phone ????
2> what is the difference between /// MS2Ginger2.1:// MotoGinger II and which one is the best
///
by installing ur file for camera can i record 720p video
Practically the same, based on the same firmware, just some pngs are changed (slightly different look, e.g. of the status bar or some icons), and some additional apps may be different.
@rizwannaik2004 Oh, sorry, I thought I had the download link for the camera patch the description. it is not really hard to get the camera working: just downloaded this zip file: goo. gl/vxFYF (delete the space) and put it on your phone. Then go to the recovery menu (off, blue LED, vol down) and install this zip from sdcard (but don't wipe anything). After a reboot the camera works.
Hey, I did this step by step and it worked perfectly, but I don't know why my motorola defy Can't find my Mobile Network anymore and it's only with Emergency calls ): any Ideas of what happened or how to fix?
@lagunasansa There should be the app Defy Baseband Switcher (already preinstalled). Just open it and change the Baseband (to the region where you live). The phone will reboot and afterwards everything should work fine.
@Arjoma92 Damn haha I hate being so n00b at this, thanks man it's now working perfectly! merry christmas for you too and happy new year (: hope to see soon an ICS 100% functional soon
hi , i have motorola defy 2.2 it hangs a lot , it is in warranty and i have repaired it once through service center only but it is still hanging some times i don't think that there is any problem in the processor i guess 2.2 is not good for defy , can you please tell if i root it will it void warranty of my phone?
@rohitx3s yes, if you're rooting your phone the phone the warrenty will be lost (at leasttheorerically, there are many cases in which the rooted device was still accepted). but it is not that big of a problem because if you have to send the phone back you can simply unroot it flash a completely clean motorola firmware on it again.
@rohitx3s Could you tell me what of the instruc in the video you dont understand? Rooting is pretty easy, just enable USB debugg on the Defy, connect it to a PC and there open the program Super One click (all downloads in the video description) and hit the big ROOT button (everything shown in the video). Unrooting works the same, just hit the UNROOT button this time.
@rohitx3s Oh, you just watched the first seconds :) Yes, the instructions on the site start from a rooted Defy but my video instructions show a bit more, also how to root. You can see the process of rooting from about 2:20.
@rohitx3s Oh, you just watched the first seconds :) Yes, the instructions on the site start from a rooted Defy but my video instructions show a bit more, also how to root. You can see the process of rooting from about 2:20.
@YouWouldNotBelieve33 For CM9 the whole process is even easier! If you are already running Android 2.2 you don't need RSDLite e.g., just root, install Sndinit, and install the CM9 zip from the recovery menu! So it is about the process I showed in the CM7.1 tutorial.
@Arjoma92 Can you go from the ROM that this vid shows (2.3.4) to the 2.3.6 one on the XDA site or do you have to go from froyo? If so would the installation process still be the same? Cheers :)
@4headitYou noticed that there are two versions in the XDA thread? One (MSGinger 2.0 Lite) has a very similar installation process (restore, then flash the fixed sbf), the other one (MSGinger2.1) is a bit different. But the installation steps are all in the XDA thread.
Remember, I have not tested them (or the installation) myself, I just wanted to say it here because from what I read I would rather choose Ginger2.1 instead of the ROM in the video.
Completely bricking the Defy is almost impossible in my experience (I had a lot of situations when my Defy didn't boot anymore) because you can always flash a clean Froyo on it with RSDLITE on the PC, just have a full battery.
1- I've never tried it with 2.2.1, you could try it and if it doesn't work, flash 2.2.2 then (I'll give you the link)
2- I didn't have big issues, there are just some people that have problems when they import Blur contacts. Green lens works with a patch.
@jkenigs The camera patch is a zip file, you can download it here: goo. gl/Hf5cT (delete the space to get the URL).
To install it, enter the recovery menu (vol down when the LED turns blue after powering the phone on...). There just go to to install zip from SD card, select it (of course the zip must be in the card), and confirm. When it's done reboot and the camera works.
@Arjoma92 Thank you so much, it worked perfectly. I'm already planning on trying another rom when i have some time since I'm finding this one awfully buggy(some apps like contacts keep crashing).
@jkenigs Yes, I also didn't keep this ROM for a long time. What I would recommend is MIUI, preferably GalnetMIUI, preferably the ICS build (I also made a video of this).
After a long time trying to install the ROM following this video step by step (doing my install in real time) finally I could, yehaaa! :)
My huge problem appeared when I tried to install the fix to the green lens. I don't know what I did wrong but now the phone is freeze in the "M" at start. For sure is an installation problem, is like a loop starting forever
I'm new in this stuff, and I would apreciate a video showing step by step how could I install that mod... Meanwhile i'll try back to froyo
@Elmany22 How far did you come? Did you wipe data with the stock recovery menu after flashing the fixed sbf? Rather answer by sending me a message please.
@Elmany22 You first restored the system in the recovery menu, then you flashed the fixed sbf and then you went to the stock recovery menu and wiped data there? Please rather answer by sending me a message.
I installed it and everything worked just fine until it synced my facebook, linkedin and other social networks contacts. now when i try to enter some of these contacts, my contacts app crashes with the following message: the application contacts storage process com.motorola.contacts has stopped unexpectedly. I've been looking on various forums but couldn't make it work. please help!
@makulero Yeah mine does the same... i think the XDA developers know its a common problem and so i hope they release a knew version with a fix or a patch to sort it out ... but until then we wait lol
@MingLiangChen91 You have to flash 2.2 Froyo manually before (via RSDLite on the PC, send me a message if you don't know how to do that), then it shouldn't be a problem.
Hi i have a question. I'm a Defy user and I'm interested in flashing this. Currently I'm on CM7.1 on Nordic Froyo. I remember that I soft bricked my phone about 2-3 times but recovered it via Stock recovery by wiping the cache. Will I be able to do that after flashing this? Will I still be able to use the ROMs for the older Defy?
@swapniltech I also soft bricked my Defy several times (although never when installing this) and if I always got it working again you will also be able to do it ;) But I never tried this chache wipe method. It is also possible to go back from this to CM7/ MIUI, I also did that some times, but eventually you have to flash Nordic Froyo again before you can install another ROM.
Thank you my friend for this tutorial! I was pissed with the stock 2.2.2 android as it was lagging a lot but was afraid of installing a new rom due to the boot loader issues with the defy. thanks to your guide i now have 2.3.4 rom with cpu running at 1GHz and with 720p video record possibility. YOU RULE BRO!!!!
@kikboxinger You went through every step successfully (restoring the system, flashing the sbf and then wiped data)? First I'd try to wipe again, or flash the fixed sbf again and then wipe again. Or, if you can still access the recovery menu (blue led...) maybe do the whole process another time, sokmething has probably gone wrong somewhere. If nothing helps, you have to flash a clean Froyo, you could send me a direct message if there is still somehing.
@engraver52 Did you really go through every step (restoring the system, flashing the fixed sf with RSDLite, rebooting and wiping again with the stock recovery)? Probablyespecially the wiping before you reboot is important, I'd try to wipe data/factory reset with the Motortola Recovery- again, if you already did it.
@jhordanj18 I have never had any Problems with Motoblur- neither when I used the Defy after I bought it with 2.2 nor now with this new version. But I never really used Blur and its services although they are also part of this firmware.

@rizwannaik2004 So the version you're on right now is Android 2.1 and you're sure there is an official update (probably 2.2)? It sounds rather strange that there are still ota updates by Motorola for the Defy.
But if it comes from Motorola it can't be bad to update and get the official higher version without rooting or flashing, of course you don't get Gingerbread through this.

rizwannaik2004 1 month ago
@rizwannaik2004 An update notification? I don't know which typen of update you mean as you didn't tell me what it said. It would be helpful if you would give more information, e.g. what is currently running in your Defy.

aly1996zip 2 months ago
@aly1996zip Before you can install the ROM you have to be on Android 2.2. But it is not very difficult, you can just flash the firmware with RSDLite on the PC.

Well my friend after doing all this research and distruction i thing my defy is slow now i wanna go back to ur rom motogingerms2-released.zip pls help me how to install ur rom again
rizwannaik2004 2 months ago
@rizwannaik2004 I don't know exactly what you did but you can always go through the same installation process again (the one in the video you already did before, and as your phone is probably still rooted, the recovery menu is there and the folders are still on the SD card, it should just be going into the recovery menu, wiping, restoring the system, flashing the fixed sbf with RSDLite). But maybe even a simple "factory reset" already improves.

My friend what is sony bravo engine, it realy works or waste of time
rizwannaik2004 2 months ago
@rizwannaik2004 Sony Bravia Engine: a technology by Sony which should improve the screen quality on SE Android phones, especially when watching images or videos. As it is software based someone has figured out how to hack it on other phones like the Defy (by changing some files in the system folders, did you read the xda thread about it?). There may be a small difference (a bit sharper/ more colorful images) according to the comments in the xda thread. I didn't do it,don't think it will do much.

My battery drain very fast :-( i m worried
rizwannaik2004 2 months ago
@rizwannaik2004 I suppose you haven't recalibrated the battery after installing the new ROM? Use the app "battery calibration" from the market for this.
The power consumption of CM7 may be a bit higher indeed, another thing I use t o reduce it is the app !setvsel" which lets you set lower voltages of the CPU (another tipp: set 27vsel for 300MHz on the app and check the box "limit to vsel1 when screen is off").

Friend how can i change color of status bar
rizwannaik2004 2 months ago
@rizwannaik2004 It is petty hard as this standard Motorola ROM doesn't have theme support.
The only thing you can do is editing/changing the PNGs in the system ui apk (copy it with root explorer, transfer to the PC, extract the right image, change it and put the modified apk back into the system folder...). I have done this before but you see it's not really easy.

my friend some of the the application like contact are closing forcefully
any option for that

and one more thing my friend please suggest me a 2.3 rom which is fast and stable
rizwannaik2004 2 months ago
@rizwannaik2004 Oh, the good old contacts FC.
The early CM9 (Ice cream sandwich) I'm currently running is not final yet, not always 100% stable and the camera doesn't work.
My favorite stable ROM: MIUI which always worked best for me. And I would even take the so called Galnet MIUI ICS (I made a video about it) which says ICS but it is more a 2.3 ROM.

by installing ur file for camera can i record 720p video
pls let me know
rizwannaik2004 2 months ago
@rizwannaik2004 1. Removing those added apps you named which do not belong to the OS should not affect the stability of the phone in a negative way.
2. Your camera didn't work before, right? So you have a green lens which is not able to record 720p video.
Arjoma92 2 months ago
@rizwannaik2004 The two ROMs (Motoginger/ MSGinger2):

After a reboot the camera works.

hi , i have motorola defy 2.2 it hangs a lot , it is in warranty and i have repaired it once through service center only but it is still hanging some times i don't think that there is any problem in the processor i guess 2.2 is not good for defy , can you please tell if i root it will it void warranty of my phone?
rohitx3s 2 months ago
@rohitx3s yes, if you're rooting your phone the phone the warrenty will be lost (at leasttheorerically, there are many cases in which the rooted device was still accepted). but it is not that big of a problem because if you have to send the phone back you can simply unroot it flash a completely clean motorola firmware on it again.
Arjoma92 2 months ago
@Arjoma92 Can you help me in rooting my defy 2.2? and how can i unroot it?
rohitx3s 2 months ago
@rohitx3s Could you tell me what of the instruc in the video you dont understand? Rooting is pretty easy, just enable USB debugg on the Defy, connect it to a PC and there open the program Super One click (all downloads in the video description) and hit the big ROOT button (everything shown in the video). Unrooting works the same, just hit the UNROOT button this time.
Arjoma92 2 months ago
@Arjoma92 in your video it is written starting installation with any original froyo 2.2 (rooted)
bt my phone is not rooted so thats why i was asking how to root it first. I knw i m sounding noob bt its i am just new to it . Please bear :)

@rohitx3s Oh, you just watched the first seconds :) Yes, the instructions on the site start from a rooted Defy but my video instructions show a bit more, also how to root. You can see the process of rooting from about 2:20.

psagentx 2 months ago
@psagentx Nope, you have to flash Froyo first.
Arjoma92 2 months ago
I will test that tomorrow with Cyanogenmod 9 :D
YouWouldNotBelieve33 2 months ago
@YouWouldNotBelieve33 For CM9 the whole process is even easier! If you are already running Android 2.2 you don't need RSDLite e.g., just root, install Sndinit, and install the CM9 zip from the recovery menu! So it is about the process I showed in the CM7.1 tutorial.
Arjoma92 2 months ago
@jkenigs and @everyone:
BTW, there is also a similar but slightly different ROM that looks quite nice (Ididn't test it): goo. gl/t6N8n (delete the space in the URL)
Arjoma92 3 months ago
@Arjoma92 Can you go from the ROM that this vid shows (2.3.4) to the 2.3.6 one on the XDA site or do you have to go from froyo? If so would the installation process still be the same? Cheers :)
4headit 3 months ago
@4headit i meant 2.3.4 (6) btw :)
4headit 3 months ago
@4headitYou noticed that there are two versions in the XDA thread? One (MSGinger 2.0 Lite) has a very similar installation process (restore, then flash the fixed sbf), the other one (MSGinger2.1) is a bit different. But the installation steps are all in the XDA thread.
Remember, I have not tested them (or the installation) myself, I just wanted to say it here because from what I read I would rather choose Ginger2.1 instead of the ROM in the video.
Arjoma92 3 months ago
@4headit And I assume that the instructions are the same, no matter if you start from Froyo or 2.3.4.
Arjoma92 3 months ago
Dude your videos are awesome! I still want to ask you a couple questions, since I'm scared of bricking my device if I don't.
1- Can i do this using android 2.2.1 or do i first need to flash a 2.2.2 ROM?
2- Are there any know issues with this release? I have a green lens defy
Thank you in advance!
jkenigs 3 months ago
@jkenigs Thanks!
Arjoma92 3 months ago
@Arjoma92 confirmed! this works on android 2.2.1 !! Would you mind teaching me how to install the patch? The camera won't work!
jkenigs 3 months ago
@jkenigs The camera patch is a zip file, you can download it here: goo. gl/Hf5cT (delete the space to get the URL).
To install it, enter the recovery menu (vol down when the LED turns blue after powering the phone on...). There just go to to install zip from SD card, select it (of course the zip must be in the card), and confirm. When it's done reboot and the camera works.
Arjoma92 3 months ago
@Arjoma92 Thank you so much, it worked perfectly. I'm already planning on trying another rom when i have some time since I'm finding this one awfully buggy(some apps like contacts keep crashing).
Do you have any suggestions?
jkenigs 3 months ago
@jkenigs Yes, I also didn't keep this ROM for a long time. What I would recommend is MIUI, preferably GalnetMIUI, preferably the ICS build (I also made a video of this).
Arjoma92 3 months ago
After a long time trying to install the ROM following this video step by step (doing my install in real time) finally I could, yehaaa! :)
My huge problem appeared when I tried to install the fix to the green lens. I don't know what I did wrong but now the phone is freeze in the "M" at start. For sure is an installation problem, is like a loop starting forever
I'm new in this stuff, and I would apreciate a video showing step by step how could I install that mod... Meanwhile i'll try back to froyo

MingLiangChen91 3 months ago
@MingLiangChen91 You have to flash 2.2 Froyo manually before (via RSDLite on the PC, send me a message if you don't know how to do that), then it shouldn't be a problem.
Arjoma92 3 months ago
Hi i have a question. I'm a Defy user and I'm interested in flashing this. Currently I'm on CM7.1 on Nordic Froyo. I remember that I soft bricked my phone about 2-3 times but recovered it via Stock recovery by wiping the cache. Will I be able to do that after flashing this? Will I still be able to use the ROMs for the older Defy?
swapniltech 3 months ago
@swapniltech I also soft bricked my Defy several times (although never when installing this) and if I always got it working again you will also be able to do it ;) But I never tried this chache wipe method. It is also possible to go back from this to CM7/ MIUI, I also did that some times, but eventually you have to flash Nordic Froyo again before you can install another ROM.

Arjoma92 3 months ago
me to, i see only red motorola sign, what i gonna do, pleas help?
kikboxinger 3 months ago
@kikboxinger You went through every step successfully (restoring the system, flashing the sbf and then wiped data)? First I'd try to wipe again, or flash the fixed sbf again and then wipe again. Or, if you can still access the recovery menu (blue led...) maybe do the whole process another time, sokmething has probably gone wrong somewhere. If nothing helps, you have to flash a clean Froyo, you could send me a direct message if there is still somehing.
Arjoma92 3 months ago
cheers man, just installed it thanks to ur instructions :D
4headit 3 months ago
Muss ich die SBF datei auch restoren ?
MsKamilPolska 3 months ago
