it sucks that you can't freewheel with a fixie. seems like you can never take a rest. i think a freewheeler with coaster brake gives you the same braking control, the only thing you miss in comparison is the traction/feel advantage of a fixie.

im not arguing, but how are fixed gears faster? they only gave one gear, and you can't rest your legs, you have to keep them moving with the pedals, so it wastes energy. so how are they faster?

If you matched two similarly strong riders one full geared and one fixed, the fixed rider would be flat out faster because of less weight and when you ride fixed you get into a groove with your legs that allows you to keep your forward momentum going unlike when you coast where you lose momentum from everything you touch (pavement, wind, gravity). If you were riding cross country you'd want full gear.
