@UndeadSamurai01 The problem with entitlements is that it accounts for a large portion of the nation's debt and it's still growing as more people get older and live longer. Even if we cut spending in other programs, that doesn't mean social security and medicare will stop giving out more than it takes in. Cutting spending in other programs will only slow the problem not fix it.

The United States has one of the lowest corporate income taxes in the world. Not to even mention the myriad of methods of avoiding the already low rate. When asked if the government should raise taxes I believe it was interpreted as raising taxes on the middle class ( as it should have been). So its very possible that the 35% were actually making some sense.

Over half of the people here don't want to change anything to fix national debt, and about a fourth of them don't have any idea what they're talking about. Most of the people here are extremely religious and they let that affect their political views, and Oklahoma is the most conservative state in the U.S.

I think it may be worth pointing out that, according to your citation of the question, the 35% were against raising taxes and eliminating entitlement programs ENTIRELY. That is to say, it is most likely that many of the 35% only wish to cut back on social security and other programs to an extent but not as far as to eliminate them completely.

There are more eldarly and fewer young workers. This means that in order to provide for the increased dependant population, retirement age must increase to make up the loss.
But there are no jobs to make money with, because technology allows machines to do most of the work.
In short, 1st world countries no longer know how to be 1st world countires.

You can't see that ending tax cuts for the rich, or even cutting down on subsides given to large businesses could raise revenue without raising taxes on the specific people who are within the 35% you're talking about?

The idea that keeping entitlement benefits and not raising taxes on the majority of Americans is not possible, is a fallacy. There are other parts of the budget.

@UndeadSamurai01 The problem with entitlements is that it accounts for a large portion of the nation's debt and it's still growing as more people get older and live longer. Even if we cut spending in other programs, that doesn't mean social security and medicare will stop giving out more than it takes in. Cutting spending in other programs will only slow the problem not fix it.

Logic Fail. There are more than two solutions because there are more than two economic controls. Person A: believes that for the current trends for socialist programs are bankrupting us. He can also say that he does not want new taxes, but wants to keep those programs. You say hes stupid because now we can't pay for them. Except all that is required to pay for them without raising taxes is to cut spending elsewhere such as under military. The poll is as incomplete as your assumptions about it.

The United States has one of the lowest corporate income taxes in the world. Not to even mention the myriad of methods of avoiding the already low rate. When asked if the government should raise taxes I believe it was interpreted as raising taxes on the middle class ( as it should have been). So its very possible that the 35% were actually making some sense.

Over half of the people here don't want to change anything to fix national debt, and about a fourth of them don't have any idea what they're talking about. Most of the people here are extremely religious and they let that affect their political views, and Oklahoma is the most conservative state in the U.S.

I think it may be worth pointing out that, according to your citation of the question, the 35% were against raising taxes and eliminating entitlement programs ENTIRELY. That is to say, it is most likely that many of the 35% only wish to cut back on social security and other programs to an extent but not as far as to eliminate them completely.
