  • That music around 6:00 reminds me of the ending of 300. The kind of music thats being played when heroes have fallen.

  • Their is one major error in this video:The roman army is organised like the imperial one,not like the historicaly, correct republican era army...

Otherwise, long live Rome Tota War !

  • its great to hear someone else! i am from scotland my family goes back to germany

----> all the way to italy! my family are supposed to be from rome in 400 bc so its great to see someone from another germany to italy

  • oh come on guys.... the phalanx was not in phalanx formation... only a few....

  • @hipie63 if you didnt like it I dare you to make a better one

  • omg, thats the end music from Gladiator, how very appropriate

  • I am an American whose great-grandmother was a Paulus, her family having come from Germany in the mid-1700s. She used to claim that she was related not only to Gen. Friedrich Paulus but also the famous Paulus family of ancient Rome, so I find your battle recreations to be especially interesting. I am using the Internet to try to determine whether her claims were true. I am finding some interesting information online but have not been able to find a family tree that is not unbroken.

  • @mjmitz Wow, let me know when you have found such a tree. ^^

  • @mjmitz There's really no way to trace descent back to ancient Rome --- especially as the Paullus branch of the Aemilii died out with L. Aemilius Paullus after he made the blunder of adopting his sons Scipio Aemilianus and Fabius out to other families. Thus, even if you were somehow related to someone named Aemilius Paullus, that ancestor likely took the name for his own purposes and not as a product of birthright.

  • This is one of the more exciting battles of Ancient History. Perseus would have totally won if they had fought more defensively and not pushed them into rough terrain where the cumbersome phalanx couldn't operate. The Macedonian Phalanx had changed a lot since the glory days of Philip II and Alexander the Great.

  • please tell me!rome total war, when i conqcuer macedon why cant i play with macedon?what i need to do so i could play imperial campigan with macedon?please help!

  • @masseffectgamer Usually you can't play Macedon in the imperial campaign at all but there is a trick.

To unlock all Factions in the game go to...

    C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

Then open the text file "descr_strat".Then move whoever you want from unlockable or

unplayable to playable. Note - If you move some things to playable from unplayable

they might crash the game if you try to use them or might just outright not work, so be

    wary.

  • I really wanted the macedonians to win.

  • fuck islam!

  • @PrinceOfMalta1 Why do you post such comments on this video? I don't like racists. One time more and i block you.

  • @AustGeneral dont mean to offend you but fuck islam and fuck every islam sympathiser.

  • @PrinceOfMalta1 Im christian but i respect other cultures and religions. There is no reason why to disparage them like you did.

    Your blocked.

  • Nice videos but you need to check your spelling.

  • @MTWfreak lol well, English is not my mother language but im improving. :) Thanks.

  • @AustGeneral np

  • He is right. Muslim's use to own most part of modern day Spain and Portugal

  • Man, thank you for remembering us where we come from. I see so many people in Spain, my country, who seem to hate being from a Wstern country and would prefer being muslims or something. I love my greco-roman roots. Why we killed Homer? Keep making videos.

  • @juampy69 Thanks, im really enjoying making these videos. Just like im proud to be European, descendant of great nations. Good to know that there are more patriots like me. :)

  • @juampy69 there are actually many muslims living in Spain historically, so it's not that suprising

  • Hey, the images at the end of the video are the exact same ones I have in my book Rome and Her Enemies by Osprey Books. Nice video. My computer would probably choke on the size of the battle should I attempt it.

  • @VGAUbersoldat Yay, i have these images from the Osprey books.

  • great vid shame it couldnt be longer

    didnt like the music though

  • @TheKalusha How can't you like this music? :P

  • @AustGeneral Hey, great video, but, you shouldn't be using Legionnaries, because the battle was fought in the Roman Republic Era, with the Polybian Soldiers (Hastati, Principes, Triarii, Velites, Equites, etc.) But it's ok :D

  • @PinoPinoles Yeah, that's true but when i made this video i didn't know this. Im kind of suprised anyway that there are so much people who like this video because i made lots of mistakes including getting Legionarys or the extreme lags. xD

  • @AustGeneral Well, no problem, is for entertainment only, isn't it?

  • @PinoPinoles Yeah, it's more about entertaining.

  • Amazing vid man.

  • @Macedon2bc Thanks :)

  • Nice video! It's brilliant! Check out my movie. ;)

  • hahaha you are funny ... how on earth can you claim that? Ancient Macedonians were greeks ... Ancients Epitotes were greeks tooo ... you're really funny !! i'm laughing out my ass hahahaha

  • @4009495

Eporites weren't Greek and even a king was recorded to have bough Hellenism to it

  • @TheAwp45 haha ... where do you read this things? do you know that the word Ellas (greece) started in epirus?:P

  • @4009495

    :p i dont know

Ya probably by Phyrrus. But people once they adopt something they brag about like it's so new and rare. Athens and Sparta weren't even trying to spread Hellanism, they just wanted control. Also, if all Greeks are the same then why does Sparta base themselves on military while Athens on art.

  • @TheAwp45 hold on .... were not all the same .... we are the same nation BUT we have different habits ... I'm Macedonian and i behave in a different way than a Cretan ... epirus was and is a greek land ...as i said before the word Hellas started there ... and Spartans belonged to the dorian tribe (as many other greeks for example macedonias etc .) but the athenians belonged in the ionian tribe !

  • @4009495

    look at Tharrhypas on wikipedia

Also, check out the story of the Dorians, says that a Doric went and found Macedonia before it's other Doric brothers adopted the natives tradition

  • @TheAwp45 well i know that the macedonias were part of the dorian tribe ... you belong to the slavic race ...

  • @4009495

And I know that the Greeks were separated into separate ethnic tribes in the Hellenes... modern Greeks look like vlachs, Albanians, Turks, and Bulgarians. Not only that, but my friend said that my sister looked like a Greek. If the Greeks are right Macedonia is Greek then that means Macedonians in Fyrom could be ancient Macedonians. Besides, every map I look at not even focusing on Greece shows that the Greeks were below Epirus and Macedonia.

  • @TheAwp45 hold right here ! turks are mongols and albanians are from caucasus ..... we are Greeks .... the so called ''macedonians''(as you said) in fyrom are just a slavic ethnic group that has no connection to ancient maCEDONIA! we belong to the white race ...your sister might look like greek because your family has roots from greece !(you know thousands of communist greeks left the country after their defeat in the civil war )

  • @4009495

How the fuck you would know that people in Greece are related to the ancient Greeks? THEY AREN'T. They ignore all other groups in Greece so it seems they are pure. And why would a communist Greek change their name to a Slavic name? And yes I used Slavic cause ancient Macedonians were assimilated by Bulgarians. You will probably make another stupid comment in response. Yes it is stupid because Turks are from Mongolia not Mongolian and Albanians took their name from the tribe Albani.

  • nice video call me

    perezpunki

  • @IllyriansBlood

No the Thracians and Dacians would have destroyed you the Illyrians from doing that. And Macedonia Illyrian? I would rather have it Slavic

  • @IllyriansBlood

no they aren't they fled to Macedonia after the end of the Kosovo war

  • @IllyriansBlood

Maybe they forgot to tell us because we were being massacred and lied to by every one around us. And the Illyrians had no relations with the Macedonians. Or pelasgians.

  • Pelasgians were already in the area of Macedonia when Karanus founded the Macedonian Kingdom... They were pretty much absorbed by the people already living there.

  • @Alexandros1294

Well my point is Macedonia was Hellenized a later time. But the natives of Macedonia were not assimilated to the Macedonians 'till Amnyatis unified the whole area. And most of the Hellenization took place in the late 5 century BC (450 BC-400 BC) before Philip. And if you look at a video about who Greeks are related to, it would say Ethiopia or some other African or middle Eastern nation

  • @TheAwp45 all the humans come from africa ... lol ...

  • @4009495

Ya but interbreeding and never breeding with others makes your race pure.

  • @TheAwp45 and if this is true then why we belong to thge white race ?

  • @Alexandros1294

You make a much more civilized comment then the other Greeks. And I met a communist Greek that supported the 1946 to 1949 rebellion even though the Macedonians were in it he acted uncivilized

  • I'm not Greek. And no, Greeks are not related to Ethiopians. Btw, Ethiopia isn't in the Middle East. Greeks are Greeks... not Africans lol. Although if you wanna go that way, the earliest traces of mankind were found in Ethiopia actually .... so in that case that would mean everyone is related somehow to Ethiopians.

  • We have to remember that Greece was settled by a lot of different tribes. There were the Dorians, the Ionians, the Atticans, the Minoans, and so on. Maybe the Pelasgians too were one of these tribes. No matter what though, the Macedonians were created officially Macedonian when the Argives conquered the area and mixed with the tribes, making them part Greek.

  • I have also heard that the Pelasgians were a Greek Tribe. So, if that's true, how would they be Albanian?

  • No, these cavalrymen weren't mercenaries either as they were under Darius' levy for the army. The only mercenaries recorded at the Battle of Gaugamela for the Persians was the Greek Mercenaries that were left from fighting at Issus and the Granicus and possibly some new recruits. They formed in the center of his army and protected Darius.

  • Further more, like I said, Albanians at this time were located in the area near the Caspian Sea. To back this up, I'm looking for the map which shows it, and Darius III had Albanian Cavalry during the Battle of Gaugamela. Arrian states this and plenty of modern scholars note the presence of Albanian Cavalry at the battle. So... If Albanians are descendants of the Illyrians, what were they doing in the Caspian sea, and what were they doing fighting for Darius?

  • I'm not Greek. I'm fifteen and I just started my studies 2 years ago... cut me some slack. Pelasgians were living in the region of of Ancient Macedonia before Macedonia became a political entity yes? Well then the Argives (Temenedae) came and conquered the area and mixed with the tribes there, which consisted of Thracians and Illyrians. A lot of Macedonian culture is derived from the Thracians and a lot of their military equipment is the same. How do we know they weren't more Thracian?

  • Well Albanians aren't Illyrians. However, Peter Green says that there is one Illyrian tribe that might be ancestors partly of the modern Albanians. I'll have to look into that some more too.

  • See, that's where you're wrong. The Macedonians and Illyrians weren't of the same stock, and Albanians aren't Illyrians. The Albanians were located somewhere around the Caspian Sea in Ancient Times. I'll try and find the map to show you where they are located. I'll get back to you on that.

  • How would the Albanians be the last remnants of the Ancient Macedonians? Albania today is located in the Ancient Region of Illyria and Northern Epirus, the former of which wasn't too fond of Macedonia.

  • Macedonians were partly of Hellenic stock. They were part Thracian, Illyrian, Greek. They were the outcasts of Greek society. A lot like the Kingdom of Epirus. The Greeks today only have a small fraction of their ancient DNA. They've mixed with Romans and Turks and who knows who else? So of course they're not exactly the same as they were 2,000 years ago. But then again, what nationality has the same blood today that they had that long ago?

  • You said earlier that the Macedonians were like Macedonian Albanians or something in an earlier post. Maybe I misread it. If I did, I apologize. However, if you look at any map of the Ancient World, it will show you that the Albanians during that time were located next to the Caspian Sea. Isn't that proof enough? Nobody really knows anything about the Illyrians. They died off and nothing was ever really recorded of them.

  • @Alexandros1294

uhhh i cant find the comment i posted here so if you can tell me what you said?

  • @Alexandros1294

    What I said I mean

  • No. Hellenes is the Greek name for Greeks. Greek is what we call the tribes united as a whole. It's also a Latinized name. They're not fucking Albanian lol.

  • Uhh... Macedonia was a Hellenistic Kingdom. Albanians weren't even in Europe in Ancient times. No, Illyrians aren't ancestors of Albanians.

  • brilliant vid

  • @brinscall8 thanks :)

  • I am MACEDONIAN I AM PROUD dont

I tell the world don't listen the greeks lies

    Greetings from MACEDONIA

  • @mkdgangff

    Cool

  • This guy isn't a Macedonian. His country isn't even in the right region. They are Slavs not Macedonians.

  • @TheAwp45 Someone said they were Macedonian, I was just enlightening you that he wasn't lol.

  • @mkdgangff Greetings from AMERICA

  • Macedonia was a Hellenistic Kingdom you dumbass. lol

  • Besides, even if you were an actual Macedonian, why would be proud of King Perseus V of Macedon? He ran away from the fight once he saw that his line was starting to buckle. Meanwhile, his Royal Guard died to the last man. Pydna was by no means glorious.

  • The Macedonians lost their military prowess after the death of Alexander and after the end of the Diadochi wars. Macedon was but a mere shadow of what it once was in years past. The only thing people remember about Macedonia is Alexander's campaign against the feeble Persians. His accomplishments go past those of many that came after him.

  • and King Philip of Macedon is also rememberd for fighting the romans after he wanted 2 be like his cusan Alexander but was beat but he was a great General Sparta and Athens was the reason for Macedon 2 fall they alwayz look for help like when Athens asked Persian empire 2 help with Sparta but they beat Sparta on there own and thats when the battleof Marathon started and now they get rome 2 help wt a loud of pricks makin Macedon die and leting rome rule the Mediteranian

  • You've got your history wrong. The Persian Empire was conquered by the time Cynoscephalae happened. Also, the Battle of Marathon was atleast 300 years before the Romans were even established as a world power. Also, Philip V was a shitty general. However, Philip II was an amazing general. Get your facts straight. You're mixing details from the Greco-Persian Wars, the Peloponnesian War, and the Hellenistic Era.

  • @Alexandros1294 what the fuck u on about geek Athens asked the persian empire 2 help beat the spartans and sparta asked the romans 2 beat the Macedonians for them u no as well as i do if Greece wasnt fighting each other and didnt ask for help they could have been a empire agamemnon tryed 2 merge all the fractions together but died at the battle of Troy Philip Alexanders dad done it and so did Alexander but as normal the shity city states turn on each other as normal

  • In the Peloponnesian War, Sparta asked the Persians for help against the Athenians, not the other way around. The Acheaen League (which would have included Sparta) was much after the Peloponnesian War, and yes, they did ask for Roman help in defeating Philip V. Agammemnon was waaay before any of these events. He united the Greek tribes to fight in the Trojan War. He also didn't die at Troy, he returned and was murdered by his wife.

  • Philip II would be after the Peloponnesian War and the Thebo Spartan War, he Hellenized Macedonia, reformed his army, and conquered the Greek City-States. When Alexander came to power he had to put down revolts everywhere. After Alexander's death, the generals split the kingdom up into parts and fought each other for the next few hundred years. Also, the Greek city states attempted a revolt in the Lamian War but it failed.

  • @DjGodzz Athens didn't beat Sparta in any wars. Sparta beat Athens. Have you ever heard of Lysander? He won the final decisive victory against the Athenians at the Battle of Aegospotamoi during the Peloponnesian War. He also instated an Oligarchic Government in Athens in the aftermath under "The 30 Tyrants" which were hated and deposed shortly after. The Battle of Marathon was way before that war too. The reason Marathon happened was because Athens helped in the Ionian Revolt against Persia.

  • @Alexandros1294 the Athenians did beat the fkin spartans lok it up u dum fuck the aethians askled the persian empire for help and the persians asked forearth and water meaning there land 2 become a city of the persian empire i o im right so look it up dickhead and stop fighting comments after comments thinking your all that so what if ur a history geek u probz look it up on Google 24/7 get a fkin life and get lade Gaylord

  • LOL no Athens didn't beat Sparta. The reason I know this is because I study my history you dipshit. I've read my Herodotus and my Thucydides. Sparta asked Persia for assistance agaisnt the Athenians you retard. Yes, Persia did send envoys to Athens, but they declined the request for "earth and water" and kicked their messenger down a well. Sparta did the same. No I don't look my history up on google... I read the history books. They tell the truth.

  • @Alexandros1294

There he made another language and started a new nation and dynasty. Then the Phoneticians came and colonized the rest of Greece. They mixed the Doric and Ionian and there you have Aeolian and Attic. Thats why Greeks have more relations with Ethiopia. Now Epirus, Macedonia, and Thrace had been Hellenized later. Mostly after the Persian wars. Thats why Macedonians were seen as barbarians, cause they weren't Hellenized

  • Oh you're exactly right. I just misunderstood what you said. Never mind. My bad.

  • Wait. I read that wrong too. Greeks don't have any relations to Ethipians. The Macedonians were somewhat Hellenized. Argive refugees came and took over Macedonia and mixed with the people there. Macedonians were a mix of Greek, Illyrian, and Thracian. Also, they spoke a rough form of Greek, it was Doric mixed with Thracian and Illyrian tongues. They also weren't in city-states.

  • @Alexandros1294

No they just spoke a a rough Doric. No Thracian or Illyrian. Well maybe, not much evidence to conclude it

  • No it was Thracian and Illyrian. It was their own half Greek language. A Macedonian that spoke in their tongue couldn't be easily understood by the Greeks of the South.

  • @Alexandros1294

I said there is not enough evidence to conclude a separate language or a mix with Illyrian and Thracian. And if you are not Greek, then who are you? Ya Ethiopia is in Africa but look at some video about it to see the truth.

  • The Greeks considered Macedonia an ethnos aka tribe because they didn't live in a city-state... they lived in a Homeric Kingdom. Also, the Macedonians were pretty heavy drinkers which also tattered their reputation with the Greek cities. There's a plethora of reasons why they were considered barbaric, but they started becoming Hellenistic during the reign of Archelaus. Everytime the Macedonians competed in the Olympic games, they had to prove that they were Greek.

  • Philip II was the one that completely Graecized the Macedonian Court.

  • and dude, you are the one that needs to get a life. Atleast I can speak proper fucking English. a braindead monkey couldn't fucking understand what you're trying to say. Just stay away from history, because you suck at it, and stop talking. How old are you, 12?

  • @DjGodzz Btw, Philip V and Alexander weren't cousins. They were hundreds of years apart and weren't even blood related.

  • Let's not forget that the Phalanx in this time wasn't quite as mobile at this point in time as it was in Philip and Alexander's. During Philip II and Alexander's time it was very mobile and could move very fast if it needed too. Philip V's Phalanx was a slow moving cumbersome wall of spears rather than a mobile pinning force.

  • can some one plz tell me how i get allies to help me before i attack or get attecked. before battle. i see the military access can someone help before my empire falls?

  • can you still buy this game?

  • Yes. I have it, and it's a awesome game.I have ETW now, so i don't play it much now, but its a must-have for total war-players

I hope that RTW 2 comes out quick ^^

  • that alexander music fit with the macedon

  • @phoenixking321 Yeah, that's the reason i have chosen it.

  • good work =)

  • thx ;)

  • alexandar is not greek in the movies alexander is macedon not greek alexander macedon

  • Correct but Macedon is still Greek as it 1 was of the fractions at greece like sparta athens :)

  • @DjGodzz

    omg Macedon is a fraction

  • Macedonia was a Hellenistic Kingdom you idiot. Macedonians ethnically were a mix of Greeks, Illyrians, and Thracians.

  • So funny that dominance has changed so much. Now Britain and America rule over these WEAK states.

  • Dominance? Is money and military power that important? These are just soulless values. Ancient nations like greeks and romans brought culture and formed the world how it is nowadays. The heir of this really great nations won't be forgotten. No surprise that history fascinates so much humans.

  • * Historians admit britains shaped the modern world

  • You shouldn't be proud about britain history. They were the inkarnation of slavery, exploiting and destroying other clutures/nations.

  • They shaped it indeed but not in a good way at all but not only britain was at fault.

  • So do you like the modern world? Full of false dreams, dead environment and depressed people who fight their entire lifes for money and things they don't need? I advise you friend to reconsider your point of view of our world

  • You totally understand me false. Romans brought greek culture but yeah i know with violence. Modern world became in many aspects even more worse than it was in former times but i just thought that i have to remind some people that "the big" nations of today aren't that great....Money and military power aren't really things to be proud of, things which aren't either neccessary nor important.

  • They brought the culture to us, and we advance it towards.

They really weren't so noble - they acted like animals. The romans bringed the greek culture to italy, where it spread to the whole western world.

  • greek=noob MACEDONIA 4EVER pozz from CROATIA

  • If i'm not mistaken,, Alexander means "he who hates man", Alex (alexios) Andros. Greek. Then: Hellenistic.Btw, nowadays Greece and Macedon are still debating where was Alexander's macedon, for it could closer to the greek islands. At least closer than historians from the 19th century thought it was. One of the genius movements made by Alexander was to ABSORB eastern culture, mixing him own bloodline with eastern nobility and taking what he thought to be the best of their different law systems.

  • No. Alexander means Protector of Man. Not He Who Hates Man. Alexein (or Alexo) means to protect or to ward off, and Andros means man. Alexander's Macedonia is in the Northern part of Greece today. Macedonians were ethnically part Greek, Thracian, and Illyrian. The Macedonians (pseudo ones at that) claim that he was a Proto Slav. Slavs weren't even in the Balkans until much later though.

  • Macedonia is not Greek. its a separate civilization. The greeks was not an empire like the Romans and Persians were. they were city states. so was the Phoenicians, and Mesopotamians.

  • Macedonians were greeks. They are an hellenistic people. If they aren't hellens OR greeks, who they are then? Aliens?

  • Comment removed

  • @Defantry Greeks back then are but Greeks of today are of the Eastern Roman Empire.

  • thank you man you tell these uneducated apes that macedonia is not greek and it never will be.

  • No... Macedonia is very Greek. They spoke the Greek language(albeit in a more rough tongue), worshipped Greek Gods, participated in the Olympic Games (which was a right only reserved to Greeks), and spread Greek culture around the world.

  • Carthaginians were phoenecinians, and carthage wasn't a city-state. Greeks were for the most part city-states, but they had empires like Macedonia and Epirus.

  • Well let's look at Epirus then. It was a Kingdom like Macedonia, was it not Greek? The Macedonians weren't seperate from Greece. They were as much a part of it as Athens or Sparta were.

  • @Alexandros1294

Pausanias wrote a book and a part of that said that a king of Epirus, Tharrhypas, introduced Hellenism to his subjects. Meaning they aren't Greek. Just like every other Doric. Thats why they are Illyrian. and stfu Illyriansblood "Macedonia was Illyrian" thats stupid Macedonia would have been proto-Celtic before they arrived to Greece.

  • Dorics are Greek... The Dorians settled in the Peloponnese and in the northern areas of Greece. Epirus and Macedoina were both part Doric. Would Sparta not be Greek either?

  • @Alexandros1294

Lets start in the beginning. The proto-Dorics were living in Serbia around 1500 BC. Then they moved south to Epirus. Here they made a new language. Dorian. Then they invaded the Peloponnese from the Acheans and Ionians. The three people who led the invasion settles down and started developing more different. One made their capital Argos. When he died, his sons battled for control. One of them, Karanus, lost and asked an oracle what to do. She said go to the north to Macedonia.

  • Also, Epirus and Illyria were enemies.... so I'm pretty sure that Dorians weren't Illyrian.

  • @Alexandros1294

I didn't mean they were Illyrian

  • Thrace*

  • MACEDONIA is Greek!!!

Fuck SCOPIA or how your fucking country called!

You wasnt knowing letters and the Byzantine Empire sent you some priests to learn you speaking!!!

    NOOBS!

and now you are saying that the Greek Macedonia is yours

    suuuure

maybe Thrase or Thessalia is yours?

  • @karaxalio1 witch Macedonia you talking about then or now, Macedonia of today is of Roman back ground. (Byzantine will always be roman to me as it was to them)

  • Go Greeks.

  • 5 stars

  • @Stahio Thanks !

  • np its really well made

  • macedonians<3,NEVER GREEK^^

  • You're a dumbass.

  • Nice video!

    Jebivjetar
