This is awesome! As a little girl growing up in the 60's, Emma Peel was the first female character who was equal in stature to the male lead. She was respected for her intelligence, charm, and strength. Yeah I know it was also her beauty and sex-appeal - it was the 60's. Love ya Diana! Thank you, English TV, for putting Mrs Peel out there. American TV in the mid 60s would never have had a female character like that! Loved the Avengers as a kid. There was something kind of mysterious about it, and being an English show also gave it a different feel. And it had Emma Peel. Tara King (probably got the name wrong) wasn't bad either, but she was no Emma!

"Ray Davies' account ... that the name was coined by Larry Page, and referenced their "kinky" fashion sense. Davies quoted him as saying, 'The way you look, and the clothes you wear, you ought to be called the Kinks."

They were already the Kinks when they released their first single in February 1964, same month that "Kinky Boots" was released.
