  • Alot of this series was shot here in Oshawa,Ontario,Canada.I still have a hard time believing it.

  • Thank you for posting this. This was my favourite show as a child. It inspired me to love the outdoors. I especially love the music and theme song too. I grew up in southern Ontario and it brings back so many memories of those times and that area.

  • Thankyou for posting this - remember watching this in the early 60's after school. I think my lifelong love of history stemmed from these old TV shows such as Robin Hood, Sir Francis Drake, Ivanhoe and all the Westerns

  • I used to watch this on coming home from school in the late 50s - early 60s. Pure class, thanks for posting.

  • shoulda added, thanks for posting! never thought i'd see my old buddies again.

  • I loved this series as a boy in the early 60's in Scotland and requested the book as a prize when I left Primary school. These stories fuelled my love of adventure and great writing for the rest of my life. I doff my coonskin cap to Hawkeye, Chingachook and J Fenimore Cooper.

  • @groody57 Me Too!

  • I remember this as one of the first TV series I saw when I was a kid.

    I always remebered it fondly.

    Great cast, great settings .

In later days I saw John Hart replacing Clayton Moore , in the Lone Ranger series.

But he wasn't as good as Clayton I think , because Clayton was more athletic(although John's voice was far better)

I think Hawkeye was his best part ever.

    A very likeable actor.

I'm gonna buy the complete series on DVD right after this.

    Too long no see.

  • long knife is played by my grandfather, tom busby. this was one of the first roles he had, also made a few appearances in a few war films from the 1960s (the dirty dozen, war lovers, etc). nice to be reminded of him seeing old films he did in his youth.

  • I LOVED this show as a kid. Thanks for posting this!

  • Fess Parker died today at age 85 - March 18 2010 FYI Only..

  • Hawkeye was played by John Hart not Fess Parker

  • @tigercubii

I know...I was responding to a statement below at the time!

    Thx for yr response tho...

  • @sentinel91101 Oh, sry didn't see that....both great guys though

  • This is the opening to the show.

Fess Pakjer passed just a few months ago. He was living a peaceful life in Califionia.

He had said that Lon wasn't always on his best behavior on set.

He did get the job done though.

The show was canned due to an advertisers mix-up with the producer.

    Too bad .

    Great cast!

  • I seem to recall the standard opening scene for the series was a pan of an indian running through the forest - a distance from the camera - VERY much like the opening of the recent movie!

  • This was a syndicated series that appeared on local stations during 1957, lasting 39 episodes. This one, "The Truant", was originally seen in November 1957. John Hart, who played "Hawkeye", previously replaced Clayton Moore for one season as "THE LONE RANGER" in 1952-'53.

  • Its Funny To see Old Lon As a Indian ! I guess that's better than a Monsters Or Werewolf! Hey they used to play these old reruns Like lassie & the Lone Ranger on Our local channel after school in the late 60s & on Sat. afternoon shows too! Wow It has been a long time! I guess that's why I liked Daniele Boone ! Oh Fess played that Role well !

  • good choice Greg...clever darn injuns.

  • @bigtarrose great reaction to the show.

  • 5 STARS!

  • This show is great :) I saw it when I was a little kid on TV after school just after Lasie. This show is worth watching and having !
