One of the greatest concert experiences ever was seeing these guys for the very first time playing on a trailer flat in Appleton, WI along the Fox River. Hang Time just came out. I had to bum some bucks from the foreign exchange student we brought along for a tshirt. The greatest damn tshirt I've ever owned. Seen 'em a hundred times since. Each time feels like the first. Love em' til I die. Long live Soul Asylum. R.I.P. Karl. Cheers
Great clip! It makes me miss looking forward to and seeing them over and over again in Mpls. around 1990. They were the best live band. Their records have never really shown how great they were live. Great nod here at 2:06 to the Replacements' anti-MTV tune "Seen Your Video." "Seen your video / It's phony rock and roll / We don't want to know."
I still think the Replacements are better lol...but im trying to find the more 'punk sounding songs' from SA...having trouble though...any hints on heavier type songs Id like to hear yer opinions on said tracks...
Basically anything off their first three albums "Say What You Will Clarence.... Karl Sold the truck", "Made to be Broken" & "While You Were Out" Also check out "Hang Time" then there are a few scatterd heavy songs on Grave Dancers and Let Your Dim Light shine. Most noteabley 99%, Caged Rat, and Hopes Up. If you want heavier "punk" stuff for starters check out their song Miracle Mile. You might like that. Also the labum version of Closer to the Stars is pretty heavy.
Oh my god, around 1988-1992, live, they were as good as any band I've ever seen. I saw the Replacements in 1986-1992 too. Hang Time and Made to Be Broken are the best albums. So weird, this band s"career"...
@EricD thanks Im looking for some more bands of this time...it seems like older Indie is were its at for this fellow...LOVE THE 'MATS....but this is amazingly cool...I know very lil about SA's back catalogue....
How frustrating it must have been to record an album as brilliant as HANG TIME and have it just sit there and fizzle in the cut out bins and relegated to rotation on college radio.. damn. My 2nd favorite SA Song.. or is it Cartoon. :-)
I saw this happen on MTV's Mouth2Mouth show in '88 and never forgot it. I looked for years afterward but never found anyone with a copy of it. I finally found it a while back but still, it's about time somebody put this stellar performance online! Thanks LittleTooClean!
looking forward to seeing them in London in October 2011!
