  • It is definitely not Taiji

  • its Hung Ga

  • 洪家拳だろ。

  • The Tai Chi is in the background

  • @jacksawild You are correct the Tai Chi is in the Background.

  • look it's master roshi you guys!

  • yes, not Taiji, but still really cool!

  • what is the song?

  • Theres a sense of Taijiquan applications in the form, but its not Taiji.

  • Its look more like break dance to me

  • I'm pretty sure that's not tai chi. Appears to be one of the Shaolin forms.

  • Great Shaolin, not Tai Chi. Very nice, though.

  • Somehow I think this man can still kick some major ass if he needed to.

  • Classic, someone see some slow movements and thinks it's Tai Chi dhaaa

  • I think the ladies in the background are doing tai chi, or bauga i dunno i cant tell the differences sometime .

  • @WarrenKeingGaw They're doing Tai Chi.

This man, however, is not. Looks like a southern style done at slow speed. No idea what, though.

  • @theMAG101 Hung Kuen.

  • @WarrenKeingGaw Could be, but what branch and what set? I practice Hung Kuen and know a few really dedicated practitioners, but never seen this. Of course, there's a lot I haven't seen...could very well be something the guy made up for himself.

  • The is Little Red Boxing, Shaolin style

  • nice move

  • Still not sure why as song about heroin abuse was connected to this song

  • Althouth not Taijiquan (T'ai chi ch'uan), this master's form is excellent.

  • This is NOT Tai Chi!

  • is not tai ji quan

maybe is hung gar or something similar

  • @markohu my thoughts exactly

  • Can you tell me the name of the song and the band??

  • About several years until recently, I'd seen him practising everyday in a park in Wanchai, Hong Kong while I was practising Taiji, however, this master was doing other form of martial art.

  • Hi Hi lol

  • Not tai chi. This is external style done very well by a guy I'd like to look like when I'm in my mid-sixties.

  • @lebarosky i might be wrong but this guy looks like he could be past his sixties already. incredible health and fitness! seems nowadays like a lot of external people break down in old age, but not him. not tai chi, but i'm pretty sure he could punch a hole through a man with his hung fist.

  • His kung fu is better than most guys in their 30's.

  • thats not tai chi, but good for him for looking badass at his age

  • Yeah, bad_ass_old-Master ;) COOL !!!!

  • You guys didn't realize that he is 104!!!

  • it ain't tai chi for sure.

  • I find it curious that he is wearing tenis shoes. You would loose almost all the sensations that your bare feet would have on the ground and introduce a spongy cushion beneath your feet. Wouldn't this affect your footwork and reduce stability, reactivity and power?

  • @Manetheran lose some sensation of the ground compared to bare feet... a little. Lose sensation period... no. Qi will still circulate, muscles and tendons can still be controlled, the shoes won't restrict that. As far as reducing stability, etc... no. If a beginner were learning with bare feet and they were then put in shoes (or vice versa), all those things might happen. After an intermediate level, it just won't matter. If anything, shoes are helpful unless your feet are well-trained bare :)

  • 20 bucks says he has no clue what hes doing, hes just asian so everyone assumes he does

  • tats my dad

  • i bet the old guy can kick that sitting guy`s ass

  • OK, some people think this is Tai Chi simply because it's an old asian man practicing in the park. It's not, his style is a hard style. Just because he's not exerting himself like an actor in a shaw Bros. movie doesn't make his style internal (pls note the practicioners in the background, THAT'S TAI CHI). Some people think it's Hung Gar. It seems similar. It's seems to be a southern hard style. the slow movement is the method in which hard stylists cultivate chi.

  • @kurlii I think it is Southern style.

  • if you are from america, chances are you know nothing about the rest of the world and their cultures. America is consumed with the idea that life is about money and sex. look at the culture as a whole, . this is an ancient art from a people who devote their life to becoming one with nature and the universe. ..Americans , Canadians , Australians ,England should stop invading and destroying countries and killing people around the world ! when is China gonna Rise to the 4 Devils

  • @green1kat Your actually calling for WW3 in the same paragraph you talk about the ignorance of other people and oneness with nature, IRONY ALERT. Pre 911 Afghanistan was a taliban dominated shithole. And Iraq ruled by a dictator who revered stalin and practised political oppression ethnic cleansing and religous persecution. What part of oneness with nature is there in stoning woman under sharia law and gassing hundreds of thousands of untermenschen. AMERICA FUCK YA!

  • @green1kat sorry to burst ur ideas but canada hasnt invaded/destroyed any countries :< canada is the peacemakers yo !!!1

  • That's Chu Gar (Southern Praying Mantis)

  • @ElZato rarely does a chow gar practitioner retract either of his hands to his waist. this actually looks more like tai chi.

  • Comment removed

  • It doesn't resemble any of the myraid variants of Hung Gar I've seen, but is a southern style with some other influence. It's probably a family style or regional style, not that it matters much, his technique intent, form qi etc are all good, and he obviously benefits from doing it everyday, so good for him. TIME TO PRACTICE! I'M INSPIRED!

  • he's that spry at his age because this is a habit for him, like eating breakfast. don't ridicule it, learn from it. there's nothing unhealthy about increased chi flow

  • That's not Tai Chi, it's a style similar to Shaolin called Nan Chuan.

  • @GoongFooStud Yes obviously and he's quite good at it I think. it's also not hating on him to merely point it out as some on the thread seem to think. :) It's good to see a lifetime of practicing southern kung fu is as healthy as a lifetime of taichi. :)

  • to all the blind ppl the taichi is in the background :)

  • who is the singer? It's a great song. Please someone tell me. Thank you

  • Your shite mate. where's the enregy balls?!?!

  • This is hung gar down slowly.. 0.o

  • well....i can say that the women behind the old man practice Tai ji....that was YANG style

  • are you sure this is Tai ji....i'm kindda not sure this is Tai ji...coz so much tension in the form >.<

  • It is not TaiChi. It is a form of South region Kung Fu.

  • This is not Tai Chi

  • Im not sure of the style but good muscle tone and form for an older gentleman. *bows* may my own kung fu make me so fit at that age.

  • Looks moer like hung gar than tai chi.

  • Great

  • I like the video its great, but it is not Tai Chi he is practising.

  • It looks a little like the Buddhafist form.

  • Very cool! The music seems to match to intensity of the mans focus! I want to be fit like that at his age.

  • this is hung gar style

  • it looks like the the chinese southern style martial art, it practice mind and chi, mind lead chi, chi lead body. as old people says mind and chi is the king, body is it's minister

  • this is not tai chi... does anyone know what it is?

  • not tai chi ....

  • really we ourself create this energy we our bio- elecrical being i felt the energy after the experience hands and teproal lobe were stemulated i tried to to feel your chi i am sorry if i intruded . i do this by seeimg through anothers eyes and sence there inner being . some people you must not do this with they have negitive energy very unplesent if you can not take or release it true

  • I do not know "Hung Gar" but do recognise this as a form of Kung Fu - seeing as I know Lau Gar Kung Fu, I am guessing Hung Gar is another form. That would make sense... and Kung Fu is related to Tai Chi...

  • @Myst1f How can anyone know "Lau Gar" and not know "Hung Gar Kuen"?! That is a total oxymoron!!!!! And Kung Fu is not related to Tai Chi, as if they were people, "Oh, dis is Li, Kung Fu and his cousin Li, Tai Chi, she slow but pretty...." Tai Chi is Kung Fu! To be more proper/specific, it is all Wushu! Wushu = Martial Art, Wu = Martial, Shu = Art. Kung Fu - A skill acquired over time through diligent training. To train "Kung Fu" is to engage in the ongoing process of mastering a certain skill.

  • hung gar not tai chi

  • great stuff. its inspiring to see an old-timer do an art so well. i also like the godsmack song you put in it. why they are paired together though i have no idea.

  • The power of thoughts. forms, feelings, perceptions, fabrications and conciousness using buddhist meditation. once someone achieve 4 th jhana they can even travel throguh air or earth. create multiples of them. so many. but the main purpose here is to develop samadhi, sati and wisdom to achieve liberation free from attachments. google" kayagata sati sutta. or " Four frames of reference". X-men things can be done in real life. :) follow "noble eightfold path - Bhikku Bodhi"

  • not tai chi

  • its hung gar you dummies. its like one of the most popular styles in all of china. it was made famous by one if the most popular folk heroes in all of china wong fei hung(the dude jet li played in once upon a time in china).

  • touch of death only effects 19 years later.

  • OH MY GOD!!! This is so funny!!! hahaha this martial art is so famous! its Hung gar dudes =)

  • It looks similar, but I think it might be something else. Definitely not taijiquan, though.

  • @Eyemachus I don't know Hung gar or not, but not Tai chi that's for sure. He do it slow but movements is very different.

  • Not taiji, not internal :)

  • i would beat this old guy hahaha! with my crushing moon technique.

  • if you did that 1 he would fuck you up and then id kick you on the ground you fucking dick -_-

  • I was just kidding guys come on who attacks the elderly honestly?

  • It actually looks more like Goju -ryu Karate, the sanchin exercise.

  • I think you're not right, yet not so far from the truth. It could be White Crane. Okinawan karate takes a lot from southern chinese styles.

  • yes and no, Okinawan Karate Do comes from a Kung Fu style called Feeding Crane. it is a bit more ridged than what was displayed on this video. But your correct in that Karate comes from the Crane style Kung Fu.

  • It actually depends. I mean, Uechi Ryu comes from a style known (at least named by Kanbun Uechi) as Pangainoon. I think another family does have something to do with Bak Hok Pai.

I don't know why I said the karate thing. I just think this guy might be doing some white crane or a similar style.

  • This is definitely not Tai Chi, it is a shaolin form, either tiger or tiger crane or hung gar.

  • who sing the song ?

  • godsmack

  • looks more like hung gar

  • this man has years and years of built up focused energy that he could throw at you and knock you off your feet.

  • umm, this very tough old guy who could kick my ass is doing Wing Chun slowly, not taiji.

  • This is definiately not Wing Chun either.

  • after i posted that i figured that you're probably right.

so that's 2 things that we know it's not.

  • hmmmm? I would agree that it looks southern since it is a striking form. But the long stance work and some hand movements really look like Long Fist. I don't know any one who practices the Hung Gar Crane forms so I can only say that doesn't look like Hung Gar Tiger. I practice Southern White Crane and the stance work seems to open to be White Crane and the hand form is wrong. It could also be a "family" style many people still know these private closed door styles. I f you know please tell

  • looks like Hung Gar to me. Definately Southern.

  • being that it is filmed in HK and the way it looks i to think this is some form of hung gar

  • A northern shaolin gung fu, not Tai Ji.

  • Old man i will hit you a hundred times before you even have chance to move to your next stance.

  • You're just an illiterate moron. If you ever reach this man's age you will be crippled in comparison to him now. But tell me: how many neurons have you working at a time?

  • This is meant as a response to IsOKReallyOk. I'm sorry, I just can't help it, but there are really disturbing idiots.

  • Comment removed

  • First of all fool you dont know anything about me. Im a sixth degree black belt in Shotokan, a third degree black belt in Goju ryu and a ninth degree black belt in killamothafuckerwhotalkshitfu.

  • So you will jump up on a guy doing hangetsu, or sanchin kata? Cause it's about the same this guy is doing. But you're unable to distinguish conditioning training from fighting. Bah, let it go, this argument is no good. If you ever did karate - which I doubt - you brougt but dishonour to the styles you claim to know ("Karate starts and ends with courtesy").

  • First of all you are in no position to question what I did or dont do. Second, a person performs the same way the practice. If you practice foolishness then you will get you butt kick or killed because of it. Third, after a certain point in time a person realizes form restricts. All is contained in the no-form expression in any art fool.

  • Black belts from a MCdojo?

  • Comment removed

  • Search it on wikipedia... You really sound like someone from a McDojo...

You have no respect for others and you blatantly throw your credentials around as if to say that that means anything. If you know anything about martial arts then you would know that a black belt means nothing if you come from a Mcdojo or a martial art school where people pay for their yearly belt but don't really deserve them.

  • I don't believe you. You sound too ignorant to have been with masters. You sound like a 16 year old kid with ADD. Or tourettes syndrome.

  • Comment removed

  • Whatever, you must be pretty unhappy with yourself if you like lying over the internet so much...

  • Comment removed

  • I don't even practice Tai Chi... :-S

Dude, from watching the videos you posted I can say wit 100% certainty that this old man will kick your ass.

  • Comment removed

  • Right now what im going to do is practice my breathing exercises and punch a 4 inch thick metal block suspended in my back yard 400 times. After this i will kick the heavy bag for 2 hours--an hour at a time then go for me a 3 mile run. ha...ha..ha! You dont stand a chance. Ha..ha..!

  • Comment removed

  • 3 miles is nothing. im training light today.

If you know anything about training and have done it as long as I have you would know that running is not healthy. Walking provides a more complete fitness then abusing ones knees, joints and ligaments. I got enough running in during my time in the Marine Corp

  • you've got some anger issues mate, go get it checked out... listening to calm soothing music helps too...

  • beatamothafuckerwhotalkshitfu helps calm my nerves as well.

  • what is with the bullshit hanzi?

    Good posture, good form?

    And your point is?

Looks nothing like Tai Qi Quan

  • Balanced Old-Aged Man.... wow...

  • I agree that this is just a slow bridge form of choyl i fut or most probably hung gar. His focus is strong and so are his postures. It could easily be confused with tai chi. Then again, it's martial arts isn't it and this ols man isn't bad at all.

  • It is either Hun guar or Cho la Fut. These are southern styles popular with Bawa speakers. More physical less details straight to the point. Short forms with great physical strenght required. Transition forms between internal and external Northern forms, and the even more pragmatic forms of Korea and Japan.

  • It is not Taijiquan of any kind. I assume that the video title and the song are meant to be humorous. It looks like a straight forward presentation of a large frame intermediate set from one of the Fujian systems. I would be fairly surprised if it wasn't.

  • the old man is doing a crane form more then likely he just hid the opening its prob one of the lower forms in his system.i do hakka mantis xing yi and five animals i no the old guy is hideing something thats how these old men play gung fu.

  • what happened to Euphorium n wonphi???

dont really care what style the fit man is doing. i just hope i will be fit like him when i reach his age.

take it easy guys... martial art is about peace, health & fitness, discipline, happiness, etc...and among other things... brotherhood.

kung fu brothers dont fight they exchange ideas and practice together. they progress individually with each others help... and stay brothers 4 life...

    respect...

  • @hiddenwingchun lol, nothing happened, still growing in skill, speed, and yes, learning to ignore the ignorant. lol

Anyway, this guy probably kicked a lot of asses when he was young. Besides being fit, happy, and disciplined, among other things.

    Peace bro.

This vid is always an inspiration.

  • @hiddenwingchun

Actually they are NOT. That is just a selling point.

In truth, martial arts are like any art, they are a MEDIUM to attain a higher level of personal devellopment.

But originally they have NO OTHER GOAL than providing you with the best way to beat another human.

It's not because you practice MA that you are necessarily a good person. And being moral does not make you a good martial artist either.

I like your approach don't get me wrong, but it's just not factual.

  • @GoongFooStud Nor is yours.

  • I'm a little late inthe debate to the debate between Euphorium and wonphi, but could the man have been doing Chen style? I do Yang Family long form (being done in the background of the video) and I know Chen has some explosive movements in their slow form. Just asking.

  • He could be doing Chen style, but he most certainly is not doing so in this video.

  • ur both giant faggots congragualtions

  • This guy is certainly a master of one of the Shaolin styles. Anyone saying that he is not a master is simply joking. Because old men do not practice martial arts themselves alone in park and "waste time" if its useless.

  • To say that this man is a master of tai chi is a joke. Tai chi is performed like water flowing through a stream. Its movement is fluid while distinct, fast while strong. His form is stiff and his movements are jerky. Look up a real tai chi master and you'll notice the difference immediately.

  • He is a master of shaolin, he isn't even doing tai chi, it is a shame you can't tell between tai chi and shaolin traditional sets.

  • hey buddy learn to read...title of the video "Tai Chi Smack -- Hong Kong, China -- Old Master"...video info "Bad ass old Tai Chi master showing his stuff in a Hong Kong park set to Godsmack's Voodoo."...go back to school and learn to read

  • I read perfectly fine and your post was a direct response to Himalanspirit. thus your response is indented under his post.

You should learn to post. :)

  • lol, "you read perfectly fine"...good for you. I wished I could read perfectly fine too

  • thanks because I know I do. practice makes perfect.

  • i guess the sarcasm was lost on you

  • pff, it's the truth, I explained myself well and clear on my other posts, it is you who messed up, and you have nothing against me. lol.

these posts below me show all!

  • first it's "you've got nothing on me", secondly if you had passed elementary you would know that you can't say "I read perfectly fine" without adding something between I and read (e.g. can, sometimes, always. etc)... For someone who "reads perfectly fine", you seem to lack the simplest grammatical knowledge....oh and get pwned

  • Comment removed

  • as well, you could have just said "he is not doing tai chi" the way you said it sounds as if you are saying this old master isn't doing tai chi right, when in fact HE ISN"T DOING TAI CHI AT ALL!

jeesh, and to say I need to learn to read, you need to learn express your thoughts correctly in typed form XD.

  • hey little baby, don't wet your diaper, sorry i don't have all day to respond to your posts, some people actually have to work for a living. also i'm not 34, i'm 21, the fact that you keep on bringing up my age just shows that your a biggot. congratulations douchebag :)

  • I didn't even bother reading your crap. you seriously need to get a life as well as an education. to make a mistake, and then insult people for correcting your mistake, really you are one pathetic loser. Everyone that reads what happens shows that I owned you in all aspects, like I said you have nothing against me, stop humiliating yourself you old fart.

  • lol, i'm the one that needs to get a life? last time i check it was you who started doing three replies to my one. Please do you need to learn addition as well as grammar? I'm glad you think i'm a pathetic loser, but what does that make you, you can't add up to three and you don't even know basic grammar rules that a second grader would know. So yea congrats to you, you just scored a big win.

  • I didn't bother reading that BS because you are probably just going to embarass yourself even more. I just corrected your mistake, and you end up lashing out at me. you should grow up and just accept that you were wrong in the first place.

These posts show everything, and if you can't find out where you went wrong maybe YOU should learn to read and go back to school.

  • lol, I guess I need to add reading to the growing list of things you still need to learn. If you go all the way back to the first post, all I said was that this guy is a master of tai chi, your the one who started attacking me say 'its a shame I can't tell the difference". So yea buddy get your facts right

  • I wasn't insulting you when I said "it's a shame that you.." you were saying as if the old man WAS doing tai chi horribly, and I merely corrected you that he was not doing tai chi. then you come back with personal attacks telling me to learn to read when.

fact 1: I did read your post you were directly responding to Himalayan spirit, thus your comment was indented under his.

Thinking that, I just corrected you for calling this old master doing jerky crappy tai chi, when he wasn't doing it at all.

  • Adios mio, old guys that can move like that scare the pants right off of me o_o; .

  • It is hung kuen... Which is shaolin.

  • Nice enough, but it's definitely hard style he's doing, not taijiquan.

  • I am sorry but I think this discipline is chi kung (qi gong) exercises in moviment, not Tai Chi.

  • I'm sorry, but this is not even Qi Gong. This is a hard style of gong fu.

  • I´m sorry ... I like it so much but it is not Taichi, (I´m teacher of it), it´s an external wu-shu style !!

  • If I may, I am agreeing w/your assessment. Somehow I can sense he is not bringing all that he is to the table w/ this hard demo. A (tuned) eye could capture him as he does if he were just sitting still. Gesturing is a martial skill as well. Thank you, peace.

  • 唔該改正吓個謤題,好明顯唔係咩太極囉,可能你唔係中國人,對我地的功夫無咩認識,但係我唔想有人誤以為係太極囉~

  • Excuse me, could you please amend the title? According to most observations of youtubers, the kungfu the old man was playing is not Tai Chi. The mistake is understandable as you may not be a Chinese. However, no one would like to see the possible consequence, that foreigners with little background about Chinese culture may have mistaken it as Tai Chi. Thanks for your consideration.

  • Don't care if it was hung kuen or tai chi but he was def. a bad ass. check out the expression on his face.

  • You guys are all wrong. It Old Kuntfu.

  • that is tai chi, he is putting force into his tai chi... if you know tai chi and you do it fast and use strength like you are throwing a punch it would look like that
