  • and people say pc's are better than macs.

  • I wasn't a Steve Jobs fan but the man could present a product and sell it like nobody.

  • omg G3 and 3G

  • 3:38 lol

  • Nice, him showing off the factory... They should do that with the iPod/iPad/iPhone parts factory... Would be an ugly contrast.

  • That frontside bus is even fast for today's standards.

  • @hcdoodah One problem though: no one uses FSBs anymore.

  • i thought steve jobs wanted to take down IBM really badly not work with them lol

  • Still using my 2005 G5 PowerMac; can't upgrade the OS past Leopard due to the PowerPC chip, but the thing still screams (2GHz processor, 2GB Ram, 250GB HDD). RIP Steve; thanks for all you did for us....

  • R.I.P Steve :( 1955 - 2011

  • @marquesandre92 ugh... Another one of those assholes begging of a top comment...

  • @oldkidsjonge OR he could just be a nice guy remembering a tech icon. But I understand, your life must be so bad that you have to be pessimistic about everything.

  • @rockgod235 ... Yeah, well I guess we'll just have to ask him them:p

Maybe was a bit rude what I wrote yeah...

  • @iMacG3nerd Pity your 1090t is on shitty windows then isn't it 'bro' :)

  • if PPC was so ahead why switch to intel?

  • @windowshelper10 it was all about power consumption. PPC just didn't cut it with their future roadmap. Intel upped their game.

  • @windowshelper10 Intel > PPC speed

  • 3:37

"and Massive Branch Prediction Logic..... which I don't know what it does... predicts branches!"

    Love that phrase..!

  • Yay premature specification :D

  • While Steve Job is introducing the Power Mac G5,his engineers are planning to switch to Intel serectly.

  • Nice.

    First 64-bit CPU Ever

  • @CrashTest355

not the first at all actually apple had the chance to use 64 bit chip 6 years earlier

    the powerpc 620 chip

  • This is poor quality?! Doesn't look too bad to me

  • Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid!

  • I thought Jobs hates IBM

  • " I don't know what it does....but it's a good thing" haha...

  • Damn these key note seem faster and more exciting. Now its just slow and magical.

  • Apple messed up by going to Intel. Power 7!!!

  • @brutusunix I agree with you, it is weird to think that macs and PCs have the hardware inside now... i might as well hack OSX on my HP, its why i just bought a G5^^ "The last "Real" Mac

  • @brutusunix If that were true, Apple would not of moved to Intel. Apple isn't that stupid.

  • @Titanz91 It's because Power 7 is server and raw power. Mac is now a gaget company period. They discontinued their server line. they got ran out of the market.

  • @brutusunix Xserve?

  • @Titanz91

    Yup store.apple.com/us_smb_78313/search?find=xserv&mco=Nzc1MjMwNg#top-19

No new ones anymore they couldn't cut it for the business world. They only do gadgets now.

  • @brutusunix Ah. Well, okie dokies then xD.

  • jobs was fat at that time!!

  • LOL "64-Bit WOOOWWW!"

  • Like a G5, Like a G5, Na Na Na Na Na... :D

  • @AndyBonHelsing1 haha, first time i heard that song i thought of PowerPC

  • 1 Ghz FSB? Is there any personal computer today which uses a 1 Ghz FSB? o.O

How do the manage to get the same or even higher bandwith in the end today?

  • why IBM stopped manufacturing processors ??

  • @aniketroxx they didnt they make all of the cpu's for xbox 360 PS3 and wii

  • @aniketroxx remeber IBM did one for the wii? and look at the wii now its less powerful than the gamecube! if the wii did not come out during the beggening of the resesion it would be more powerful.

  • ...And Duo Processors quickly became Duo Core Processor.

  • @newmacboy

Yeah Apple computers are prenium. People that are looking to SPEND to get a GREAT computer buy them. Now I am not a huge fanboy, I have owned several Macs in the past like the Dual 2GHz g5 that I commented before. I even bought an iMac G5 about 5 months ago, really nice. My latest Mac purchase was a brand new Macbook Unibody with the 2.4 GHz and GT 230M graphics. Really nice notebook, kinda on the slowside because it has a lot of programs on it. But hey, Apple is nice!!

  • A BUS hehe

  • Its crazy how fast processor technology advances. They boasted about 50 million transistors in this video, now we are into the billions.

  • @tipoomaster Using more transistors is not a good thing. It means larger chips using more power and producing more heat.

Maybe they were boasting about how few transistors there are.

  • @RockTo11

Lol...By that standard the processors in your radio are "better" than that in your computer. Yes, if you increase transistor counts without doing anything else heat and size will go up, but they've also shrank them down alot, a modern transistor in a processor is 32-45nm in size, and smaller size means less heat/wasted energy. And they can do alot more than just shrinking it, theres power gating, architecture improvements, etc.

  • @tipoomaster You know that this was made in 2003 ;)?

  • @winfr34k

Yes, whats your point? I was replying to the guy saying less transistors is better.

  • @tipoomaster Just as info ...

  • @tipoomaster Well G7s now have:

    4 processor motherboard

    Each processor has 32 cores.

    32 DDR3 Slots

    Runs at 4.75Ghz

If only Apple stayed with them.

  • @Justinba1010

Power7, and yep, they are absolute monstrosities, I've used some in mainframes.

  • @tipoomaster Man, wish I could've been working with you. How much RAM? Was it 256GB DDR3? or 128GB DDR3?

  • @Justinba1010

I don't remember, it belonged to my university. I think it was the one with two processor modules and 8 cores per processor, so 64 threads in a single system since it has 4 way SMT, that's batshit insane.

  • @tipoomaster Well on their website, Power7 has 256 cores each processor and 8 processor boards with 512GB DDR3... :D hahaha fucking monster...

  • @Justinba1010

That would be multiple nodes in a stack though, pretty sure that many cores in one would melt the universe :P

  • apple has betrayed me (and i believe many other)...

at least release SL for G5...

  • Steve Jobs looks too thin today compared with this video.

  • Imagine if IBM hadn't sold out to Microsoft and kept the PC proprietary. Then the lucky PC bastards would sit with RISC machines and us Mac users would be stuck with 68k, or maybe 88k.

  • Its been along time since Steve put this much emphasis on power

  • IBM SUCKS BALLZ

  • IBM is a big failure themselves.

    Failed in End-user market before

    selling it to Chinaman's company

& nows call it Lenovo. Their Ideapad

range is just as ugly as ThinkPads.

PowerPC 750 in Xbox is the biggest

    joke ever in computing/gaming history.

A processor supposed to generate more

    money via company workstations becomes

nothing but a fun-box attached to a TV.

  • I kind of think that IBM wasn't really interested in Apple's systems to begin with. Big brother isn't interested in anyone but themselves.

  • Apple didn't change because of speed. They changed because they wanted more application support developers can port things over to mac much easier when it is on a cisc processor.

  • See? Even losers Microsoft needs to

follow Apple's footsteps to utilize the

very processor Apple uses then, which

jokingly just for a gaming console when

Apple is building a 64bit workstation.

Copy & follow... the Microsoft way...

  • i find it funny when Apple fanboys bash the Xbox 360 for its CPU. When.. in fact the Xbox 360 has a PowerPC G5 inside

  • yeah and they also used Macs to create many of the games and the operating system. To be honest its mainly the Mac haters what get annoyed about this, I have a video titled "even Microsoft use macs" and well it annoys the heck out of Mac haters, they try oh so hard to convince themselves, but they just cant lol

  • @bisnumber1 It actually doesn't have a G5. It has a Xenon. It's close and is made by IBM but it's not the same processor that's in the Power Mac G5.

  • @bisnumber1 not it doesnt it has a powerpc xenon which is a tri-core cpu the g5 was a dual core

  • If it had been possible for IBM to build a 3 GHZ G5 at that time Apple would have never changed to Intel. I wish it was so...

  • yeah they would have done anyway. The performance per watt for PowerPC was very poor, plug it was impossible for a G5 to go inside a laptop, because of its heat and power consumption

  • (sry for my english) a G5 for laptops to develop, would have been possible, but IBM did not have interests to develop a Notebook version. They wanted only CPU's for Desktops.

  • @DildoSurround umm no if that was true why would Apple have had PowerPC G4 chips in notebooks. Their were reasons Apple switched to intel, costs, compatibility, and performance per watt on intel is much lower

  • Comment removed

  • I love how advanced Apple was back then. I love the PowerMac G5 so much that I went out and bought a dual 2.0 ghz with 2 GB of memory and 6600 NVIDIA card in it for a meare bargain @ 400 $. I cant believe how great it is. I was thinking of buying a Mac Pro because i saved up, but this is good enough...and i mean good!

  • HEY!

Can i ask u a few q's anout the powermac PLEASE!

    Yhanks

  • 3:36, so funny! Made me chuckle

  • Impossible, even if they decide to make a G6 and it was better then all Intel chips, Apple wouldn't be going back, then they would have to drop Intel support and all... And then no Boot Camp...

  • apple moved to intel over revenue and running windows anyways. Think about it x86 at the time was more ten 90% of desktop market let's say apple, motorola, IBM had 10% and then Motorola and IBM have to sharer revenue from that tiny 10% and then apple :p

  • As you should know, Apple doesn't care what has the highest market share, thats why their products are so good. Just because something has a lot of market share dont mean its a good product. PC's have 90% of the desktop computing market, are they good? No. Until recently, Intel sucked. The new Core and Core 2 lines are better though, thats why Apple switched but now I'm getting worried again. Intel's starting their confusing naming scheme again (Core i7) which can mark the beginning of problems.

  • doesn't care about market share? that's a load of crap apple's a company like any other they want money and if not them Motorola and IBM would've been pissed at the lack of money coming in.

  • @advancewars658

Maybe it's that they don't care about market share so much as getting extremely high profit margins.

  • @FelisCatusLover now stupid ApPle is also using top of thelines intel processors, cz there s no way else to go but this!! INTEL ROCKs , APPLE SUCKS

  • lol have you guys ever heard of IBM Power architecture? basically what the G3/G4/G5 was based on that IBM uses in server/super server products so IBM does actually have chips you could call a G6/G7 and yea the newer IBM chips did greatly improve power management

  • 7:40 little did he know there was no next generation!

  • i own a Quad 2.5 GHz PowerMac G5 and I got it a few years back. let me tell you.. I have a new Nehalem 2.66 GHz Mac Pro, and when I compared both: The powermac g5 beat it by 2.8 seconds. Unbelievable for a computer that dates back to the mid 2000's!

  • what exactly did it beat it by 2.8 seconds?

  • complete start up boot

  • Its funny, the Quad G5 came out 4 years ago and it is still faster than most Intel Macs, including my 2.2Ghz MBP!

  • I have a Powermac Dual G5 and a Macbook Pro 2,2 GHz. Smooth Cam Analysis in Final Cut goes much much much much much much faster on my Macbook than the G5.

  • Yes but the G5 sucks up a HUGE, COLOSSAL amount of power.

  • Comment removed

  • This is crap compared to the Mac Pro.

  • i own a 8 core mac pro and it boots in 15 seconds

  • EXACTLY.

  • It's not that bad, it still runs leopard, but won't run Snow leopard, but it is still very good

  • Yeeeaaaah. I didn't say it's now crap, but I said it's crap compared to the Mac Pro.

  • no shit, einstein.

this computer came out in 2003

  • And a year later they start shipping the mac with intel chips.

  • actually it was 3 years later

  • yay! i like the intel chips, but today I just bought a powermac g5 from my uncle for $250!!! its a dual processor @ 2 Ghz, includes 23 inch monitor with ADC, 6 GB memory, Final Cut Express, iLife 08', and iWork 08'!!! I think I got a great deal! It includes Leopard too!!! And for $250! I think its a great deal for how much that was included with it!!!

  • $250 pretty good deal but to bad that machine gonna be worthless with any future Operating system except Linux same with the monitor with ADC Software tho great deal ^^

  • yeah, but ive never owned a mac before, so i thought that would be my opportunity. I have it now and it works great! i added in my own RAM to bring up the memory from 2 GB to 8 GB!! Way faster! And even when this doesn't support any new OS from apple, ill still keep it, but get a newer mac. I love them now.

  • Yes, there was a Mac Pro introduction at WWDC 2006. I'll upload it soon.

  • i've never seen a mac pro intro before sorry

  • THANK YOU!!!!

i always wanted to watch the full intro not just a segment so again,

    THANK YOU!!!! =]

  • your welcome lol

  • thanks so much for uploading this, I have been longing for ages to see the full thing lol

  • your welcome i uploaded because i hadn't seen it online yet :)

  • btw any other product keynotes u really wanna see i "might" have it

  • do you have the full Mac OS X tiger demo, I've only seen segments of it on youtube , its WWDC 2004

  • not sure if it's the full but i believe i have the Demo of Tiger i'll probably have it uploaded within a week or so :)

  • Do you happen to have the introduction of the B&W Powermac G3?

  • yes but that is already on youtube just search for PowerMac G3 intro im sure u can find it.....

  • im looking for the jaguar intro... have it? Puma would also due. They are pratically the same.
