hes taking the autopilot off late because hes extremely lazy... taking it off at minimums in VMC??? whats the point if your not in IMC??? BORINGGG. the plane is on autopilot 98% of the time, might as well have some fun. any real pilot would have hand flown that. BTW @rdrd4544 its on the inner right side of the yoke, It's a 3 way toggle swtich
if the pay sucks for a pilot at a regional carrier, then what do the mechanics make? im trying as we speak now to get on at a regional carrier as a mechanic. i live for this shit and it wouldnt matter to me if they were only paying minimum wage. god bless these pilots for making it all possible
Hey man, hope you're surviving the furloughs... it sounds like it's not going to be as many as Paul Foley said it was going to be. It'll probably be a year or more before I'm called back...
Isn't that pathetic? You are responsible for 50 or so lives flying for the poverty level of pay but driving a semi by yourself you get 4 times that amount with little liability?
Bullshit, When you're driving a Semi by yourself you have the responsibility of everyone on the road around you, I could easily end anyones life in a SECOND on the road by the turn of my wheel, crossing into opposing traffic etc.. 80k lbs on a road going 60mph is no joke people, you all may think its all simple but its NOT
Nobody is saying that driving a truck is a joke, the point we were making is that you are flying as a 1st officer and responsible for 50 lives at a time and considering all the schooling and flight hours you have to log just to get to be a 1st officer then you only start out at $18,000 a year is pathetic, truck drivers are just as responsible but get paid alot more. Not undermining your job at all, I have great respect for truck drivers and all you guys do! Thanks!
The despairity in pay is pathetic, but I knew that going in. I was a tractor trailer driver who became an airline pilot. I tried to survive on low pay and extended periods of time away from home. I had hoped the time to move over to the left seat would be no more then 3 years, but the economy has slowed that to possibly 5 years. God bless the guys and girls who are able to stick it out and hold onto their dreams. Be extra nice to them the next time you fly on any airline.
wow that's crazy! what about all the cost of learning to fly? Also have thought of working abroad?I have heard guys doing that and after 5-6 years they plan on returning to the U.S and get a job with the big boys like SW. The cool thing is they get to fly 37's and 320'S and they are only in their 20's! should look into it.
I flew the CRJ200 for Air Wisconsin and the EMB 145/140/135 for American Eagle. I was based at KLGA/KPHL/KDCA. I loved flying so much, but I gave it up to go back to driving tractor trailers for a living. I made $16,500 a year at both airlines and was a first officer for both airlines. I worked at for 10 months at both airlines. I am now making $60,000 a year as a local tractor trailer driver.
Well not actually in D.C. as some jerk off pointed out to me and ended up on my block list, but close enough... Just put D.C. because it's the biggest freaking city there!!
A CRJ-200 is a really small aircraft, its basically a business jet converted to a commuter. My dad is a mechanic for Delta ASA's CRJ-200, accasionally they get other CRJ variants.
Thanks for posting the video, it's always nice to see my hometown big airport from the cockpit of a CRJ.
As for the person asking about the runway 1L and 1C, Runway 1C is now what used to be runway 1L. they added a third North/South runway so the one he's landing on in this video was 1L at the time but is now 1C
correct everybody? I haven't flown into IAD in a long time
Its a CRj200 landing on IAD on 1C by Mesa Airlines. I think landing was a little off since 50 feet callout should of been at the threshold if he was flying a 3 degree glidepath and touchdown at the 1,000 foot marker instead of 1,500.
Actually...the 1000 foot markers are a visual aiming point, touchdown may and normally occurs further down the runway. Not sure what your experience is, but centerline and within touchdown zone (first 3000 ft) is all that really matters on most runways...Flying these is a little different than a cessna...only problem w/ this vid is the poor guys are stuck at mesa...
For all you clowns commenting on this video. It was Mesa Airlines (hence "airshuttle" callsign) the landing was in Washington Dulles (hence the runway 1L (now 1C) and the runway 30 crossed over just before touchdown) The radar altimeter callout went "50" to "touchdown" because of the rate of decent prior to landing. If it cant keep up with the callouts, it doesnt give them. The landing was fantastic, some would call it 'non standard' due to descent rate, however it was very nice.
take it there pal. since your on the right seat attitude like that won't get you to the left.Currently I am a line check airman on 700 and 900NG. Also I thought that the 700's and have an ISIS not the old fasion SAI. And since I have jumpseated on MESA few times back when i was based in ORD did not see that kind of layout on their 700's. And I don't think so you are the pilot flying it. best of luck.
NO thats not true the gpws (ground proximity warning system) monitors an aircraft's height above ground as determined by a radar altimeter. So it gives high above ground not sea level. And as soon2bpi said "just depends on the airline, or specific plane" trust me i should know.
its different for different airlines, some go 50,40,30,20,10 others don't if you've seen an airtran 717 it goes 50,40,30,20,10,5, just depends on the airline, or specific plane.
If you can't resist the urge to be an asshole with your comments, I will have them removed and report you as spam.. This goes for you moonshine or moonsuck...whatever your name was..

Final is when you turn facing the runway from the base, short final is just a few seconds from actual touch down on the runway...
