  • yeah just made it, very nice, i have a romanian girlfriend who was very impressed. for me, maybe a little too much Lemon, was a little sharp for me, but hey this is traditional and how it should taste i guess.

  • try mixed ground beef and lamb! whole different level!

  • Bravo Mariette! I tried this dish and was delicious, i made it for my girlfriends greek family and they loved it especially with the tzatziki.

  • @burtcane Thank you so much!. I am cooking stuffed cabbage today! You can also cook the cabbage rolls in tomato sauce if you like. My family likes them cooked without tomato sauce when I serve the rolls with the yogurt sauce. I am glad you gave the stuffed cabbage a try and thank you for sharing your experience with us we appreciate it. Enjoy!

    Mariette

  • i just have one question.. did you cook it on stove top or in oven :)

  • @wagnakopls0811 On stove top.

    Mariette

  • interesting style of cooking. never thought to use sour cream or allspice. I will try.

I make mashed potatoes with the cabbage rolls. your recipe seems like it has more flavor.

  • @canarsiemarsie Thanks for posting. The sauce prepared for the stuffed cabbage is not sour cream it is yogurt flavored with fresh garlic. It can be served without the yogurt sauce too but then I cook the stuffed cabbage in tomato sauce instead of water for more flavor. Give it a try and don't hesitate to ask any question you may have, I will be glad to answer. Enjoy!

  • what is "mince"?

  • @raderanthony Mincing is a food preparation technique in which food ingredients are finely grounded into uniform pieces. Minced food is finer than diced or chopped foods, and is often prepared in a food processor.

    Mariette

  • This is a very authentic recipe. My family has been making these all of my life except that we cook them in the tomato sauce. We call them Galumpkis. I decided the other day to do something different and made Sausage Stuffed Cabbage & Spinach w/ Brown Butter & a drizzle of balsamic. There is a video on my channel that you can see.

    Happy Cooking,

    Troy

  • is lime juice made it sour? I like this recipe but im just intrigue about lime..

  • @Nazally I am glad you like the best cabbage rolls recipe. No, it is okay. But if you like you can reduce the lime juice or omit it completely.

    Mariette

  • It looks a lot like what my mom used to make. Only I think she used canned tomatoes for the water at the end. YUMM!

  • @hearsthewater Thank you for your comment.

    Mariette

  • I love cabbage rolls...but have never had them quite this way. My Mom makes them kind of similar, but they are not cooked exactly the same. Great video!

    mike

  • @macaronipop Thank you. I am glad you like the best cabbage rolls recipe. Cabbage rolls are cooked in many ways one way is without tomato sauce specially when served with garlic sauce. It can also be cooked in the oven instead of stove top. Do you cook? if you want to give this dish or any other recipe we have a try, please don't hesitate to ask any question you may have. I will be glad to help.

  • one day I was very hungry and was surfing on the web and suddenly came up with a delicious looking picture of stuffed cabbage. I had a strange feeling of it like i had to do it. I went to supermarket and bought all the necessary stuff and it took 4 hours for me to do it. I did my best on it. During that evening, my brother in law and my sister had tasted it and they couldn;t believe that i did such delicious meal.

I have never ever cooked anything in my 30 years of life.

  • @iddqds You don't know how pleased I was reading your experience with the best stuffed cabbage recipe. This is not that an easy dish to accomplish for someone who has never cooked before. Great job!

Just a tip. In order to cut the time of preparation the day I will cook and serve the cabbage rolls, I boil the cabbage a day before and store it it in the fridge. Enjoy!

    Mariette

  • @willyyo99 You'r welcome. and thank you so much for your nice comment. Enjoy!

    Mariette

  • hi lovely recipe thankyou, what country does this dish come from?

  • @Britcenturion You're welcome. It should be Middle Eastern, But I have received messages from Eastern Europe and Africa stating that stuffed cabbage was their favorite dish. The important thing is that it is a healthy and delicious recipe which we all enjoy. Give it a try and please share your experience with us.

    Mariette

  • Hello! I know stuffed cabbage all my life and I always called it hungarian dish, but it seems like we've got a wonderful, worldwide known dish here. I also found some things in your recipe I will try, thank you.

  • @palomaforte You're welcome. Yes, you're so right. I receive comments from all around the world stating that they are familiar with Cabbage rolls or stuffed cabbage. The main thing is that it is a delicious meal we all enjoy, served with garlic sauce or cooked in tomato sauce. give it a try and let us know about the result. We would like to hear

    from you.

    Mariette

  • @Britcenturio nice i come from middleeast its nice recipe

  • @optician2006 Thank you!

    Mariette

  • I'm European I have been making it with pickled cabbage and cooking it in tomato soup from cans and my kids who are born in Australia just love it and keep asking me to make it i also mix the meat with pork lamb or chicken mince

  • @1Moriel Thanks for your input.

    Mariette

  • @1Moriel yes that is a good recipe, I use clamato juice instead of tomato soup, its grand!

  • i did the same thing but instead of boiling it...i steamed it with buttered water and it was really good...kinda like dumplings

  • @strpk5304 I am glad you liked the best stuffed cabbage recipe. If you like to have some sauce, you can also bake this recipe in the oven by using less liquid (Cooking covered in the oven, requires less liquid than cooking on the stove) Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. Enjoy!

    Mariette

  • @strpk5304 So happy to hear you gave the recipe a try! Mmm Butter, anything with butter is always good! I have to try it. Thanks Mariette :)

  • Can't wait to try this recipe. It looks so yummy! Wonderful video. I hope you share more like this with us.

  • @charleskilo Did you give a try? If you did please share your experience with us.. Don't hesitate to ask any question you may have on cabbage rolls or any other recipe you may want to try. I will be glad to help.

    Mariette

  • My family always made them alot bigger :) Jtlyk. Great vid though

  • @JakstapeK It all depends how big the cabbage is. :) You are right though! Thanks for the comment - Mariette

  • I don't have any allspice. Is this essential or can it be skipped or something else substituted for it? Can sausage but used with the beef or instead of beef? Thank you! Looks wonderful.

  • @RebekahGagliardi Yes, if you do not have allspice, you do not need to use it. If you have cumin you can put a little cumin, some other of your favorite spices. Sausage can be used as well. Not sure how the yogurt dressing will go with it, as I have not tried it in the past with that combination. Do you have 7 spice or even 5 spice? That can work as well. Thanks for the comment. Mariette

  • i like it with a tomato sauce,, something spicy like you might use for meatloaf

  • @ikambor Tomato sauce or diluted tomato paste with water will add more flavor to this dish. Traditionally when served with yogurt sauce tomato sauce is not added to the cooking liquid. I don't mind tomato sauce, I cook both ways. If you like your cabbage rolls to be spicy, add extra chili powder to the stuffing or dice 1 or 2 hot green chilies and add them to the cooking liquid. Give it a try and share your experience with me I would love to hear from you and thanks for the input.

    Mariette

  • omg,, i know its good,, I dont have to taste it,, i already know,, cuz my gramma used to make a similar,, and I loved it,, it was one of my favorite

  • @ikambor It is good and it is healthy. Now it is your chance to have your favorite dish cooked by you! I can relate to you because when I was much younger I used to remember all the delicious dishes my mother used to make. I craved them so much! Your heartfelt expression warmed my heart. Give it a try. Don't hesitate to ask any question you may have. I will be glad to help you step by step if you need.

    Mariette

  • sounds and looks good

  • @nuttybar9 Delicious too! Hope you give the recipe a try!

  • Should the flame be high, medium or low when boiling?

I've never seen food like this before. I'm used to Asian dishes that use flour dough to wrap the ingredients. I can't wait to try this healthy alternative :)

  • @grassfell Thank you so much for your comment, is your question referring to when the cabbage is blanching in the start of the video? The water does not need to be boiling but should be very hot. Medium to medium high heat should be sufficient. It is truly a healthy recipe, try some of our other wrapped recipes. Bulgur Salad, using grape leaves or lettuce to wrap. Let me know if you give it a try.

  • YEAH! AND THE EASIEST PART IS EATING THOSE BABY,S

  • this looks so good, i can't wait to make it tomorrow night... thank you so much for sharing your recipe.. also if i don't use the dried mint, will it still come out good? we do not like mint as a family....

    thanks silda

  • @goodgeygoodg Many people don't use mint. The best stuffed cabbage recipe is my mother in law's recipe and she loved to include mint in the ingredients. I have cooked stuffed cabbage rolls without mint in the past. They came out great. Give it a try and let me know about the result. If you want more flavor, you can

add some tomato sauce to the cooking water.

    Mariette

  • Amazing , gotta tell you guys , i'm arabic , and this woman's cooking is so pro :D

  • @omgwtfhelpbbq Thank you. Your comment is greatly I appreciated.

    Mariette

  • Mmmm! I make these (from my papou's recipe)

We pour an avgolemeno sauce over the stuffed cabbage.

It's one of our favorite dishes!! :-)

  • @tagtenor Thank you for your comment and input. We appreciate it.

    Mariette

  • OMG i am 13 i love these that is my favourite food i live in uk now so i dont eat it much but in bulgaria i used to eat them all the time :P i love that i used to eat like 7 of them when i was 5 :)

  • @stanislav576 Thanks sweaty. I am sure maybe you are too young to start cooking meals, but if you have someone in your family who likes to cook you can ask them to follow the instruction on the video and prepare it for you. Thanks for watching my videos. Enjoy!

    Mariette

  • @HowToExpo hehe ok i will ask my dad he can make them very nice too :)

  • Maria your recipe is same as one in Turkey. I love the stuffed cabbage. Thanks for putting the video. I am sure it was very delicious. yummy...

  • @Irocky07You're most welcome. Cabbage rolls are not only delicious, but they are also healthy if low fat meat is used in preparing it. Thanks for the comment.

    Mariette

  • Ca a l'air délicieux! C'est sûr que je vais en faire. :-)

  • @enterprise11209 C'est tres delicieux! Give it a try and don't hesitate to ask any question you may have on the best stuffed cabbage recipe or any of our other recipes. i will be glad to help.

    Mariette

  • Jannah: For low carb solution: Instead of rice, use the head of cauliflowers smashed into tiny pieces that resemble rice. I don't like this recipe: why uncooked rice, raw garlic and onion? I even cook (sear) my meat for added flavor, and then the cooking time is only a few minutes (because then...you're only heating it up.)

  • yummmmmm...and u made it look so simple n easy?? can u show the recipe of garlic yogurt???

  • @saharzain Thank you. As I stated before the hardest part of the stuffed cabbage recipe is the preparing of cabbage (It takes time.) . Many put the head of cabbage in the freezer instead of boiling it. I tried but I still boil te cabbage. For the garlic yogurt, Just mix crushed garlic and some salt with yogurt and spread on cooked cabbage in your plate. Enjoy!

    Mariette

  • Beautiful cooked I'm going to make it tomorrow It's very healthy thanks

  • @nisbapk You're welcome. I am glad you like the best stuffed cabbage rolls recipe. Share your experience with us and don't hesitate to ask any question you may have on the cabbage rolls or any other of our recipe you may want to try. i will be glad to help.

    Mariette

  • HI, VERY NICE RECIPE..WHAT CAN I USE INSTEAD OF RICE, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ?.. IM ON A LOW CARB DIET..

  • @JANNAH1624Thank you. You can combine any combination of vegetable and grain you like with the meat, The cabbage rolls are also prepared by using #3 bulgur instead of rice, I hope I helped.

    Mariette

  • Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful videos! I can't wait to try this one! God bless you!

  • @wahineokeakua You're most welcome. I am glad you like my videos. Please give the best cabbage roll recipe a try and don't hesitate to ask any question you may have. I will be glad to help.

    Mariette

  • great

  • Thank you for making this video! My husband has been wanting these as it was something he was fond of as a child. Looks very good. :)

  • @haikuoflife It's funny how we carry our childhood memories with us all the time. I lost my mother early in my life but the taste of her food stayed with me. I recreated her recipes relying on my memories how it tasted and few things I remembered when she cooked. You can prepare the cabbage a day before this way the tusk will be much easier. You can also add tomato wile cooking the rolls if. If you have any question please don't hesitate to ask. I will be glad to help.

  • @fhebjo If this the first time you are trying the best stuffed cabbage, I suggest you boil the cabbage a day before this way to prepare the rolls will be a breeze. Give it a try and share your experience with us. . We would love to hear from you.

    Mariette

  • Is the rice uncooked when you put it in the meat?

  • @Mcpanicfanic Yes, the rice is uncooked. It will cook in the pot.

  • @HowToExpo Thanks for answering me. I made this on Friday, but my mom turned the stove off while it was cooking. So come dinnertime, I cut into one of them....... the meat was totally raw. Thanks mom. -.-

  • @Mcpanicfanic What did you do? lol! Did you put it back on the stove to finish the cooking? I hope so. This reminded me a similar experience i had once. i had guest and I was cooking turkey that day. I put the turkey in the oven to cook. Near dinner time I checked the turkey and i was surprised to see that the turkey was as raw as when I first put it there! Only no one had turned the oven off.

The oven had chosen that day to die out on me. we ended up ordering Chinese! lol!

    Mariette

  • @HowToExpo Chinese is a good alternative to turkey, lol!

I have no idea where the stuffed cabbage went though. My mom claimed she would put it in the fridge and we would eat it another time. Havent seen it since. I think shes hoarding it somewhere, lol!

  • oh my..Im so happy to have found this video. Ive been trying to make mashi..wrat anab by myself for awhile. It reminds me of my youth. This will help me. Thank u. I favorite this video.

  • @HourGlassbyLove . The stuffed cabbage reminds me of my youth too. My mom used to make it all the time. Funny how certain dishes ties us up with our childhood. i guess good memories never die out. Thanks for sharing and glad to be of assistance.

    Mariette

  • Looks awesome. I absolutely love garlic and you were not afraid in using spices. Have to make this tomorrow. Yummy

  • @spatel779 Thanks. We are garlic lovers too. The health benefit of the garlic is widely documented. I have written an article on the subject to be uploaded soon. For extra flavor, you can add more garlic between each layer of cabbage rolls.

    Mariette

  • If you want this kosher just leave out the yoghurt

  • @escafallen Thanks for your input. Informative comments are always welcome. thank you.

    Mariette

  • @escafallen When yogurt sauce is not used to serve with the cabbage rolls I suggest you add tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls with the water. This will add color and more flavor. Thanks for your suggestions.

    Mariette

  • @HowToExpo thanks :-)

  • Does it have to be round grain rice or can it be any type of rice? Thanks! It looks soooo good!

  • @mrsmarie225 In all stuffed vegetables, like Zucchini, eggplant, bell pepper or stuffed cabbage the recipe calls for round rice. Round rice is commonly used because it cooks faster(with the vegetables) and needs less liquid to be cooked. But it has happened times when I had run out of round grain rice and I have used long grain rice instead. Just add more liquid to the stuffing and don't pack tight.

  • Thanks, i love it.

  • @2011Queenn You're welcome.

  • I love this video but I don't have a plate to put over the cabbage though. Thanks.

  • @nemoryer You don't need any special dish to use over the cabbage rolls. Any heat resistant dish or Pyrex lid will work well.

  • It looks so nice! just wonder tomato, lime juice and yogurt... Is it very sour?

  • @maviscarmen Yogurt is optional I sometimes serve it without the yogurt and garlic sauce. You can reduce the amount of lime if you like. I suggest you leave the amount of tomato as it is in the recipe, only reduce the lime juice. To give more flavor to the dish we sometimes add tomato sauce or diluted tomato paste . over the rolls while cooking.

  • It looks fantastic!!

  • @Feisty1967 Thanks

  • Thank-You, I am making this tonight = )

  • @micheleone973 I hope you liked it. Let me know and don't hesitate to ask any question you may have.

  • Yummy. Perfect pregnancy recipe :)

  • @neverforever1984 Just make it and put it in the fridge. You can pick one and eat it cold, It's delicious.

  • Its excellent, brilliant, amazing, lovely and delicious.......

  • @fightingtoall Thank you.

  • i love ur accent r u swedish?

  • @k1baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa swedish? haha isn't it like.. indian or something like that?

  • Hi Mariette, thanks so much, for your video. I am Vladi, and i am born in Macedonia where stuffed cabage is very popular. You remine me on my mom dishes. I defenetly watch all your recipies. So easy to learn , so simple . Thanks a lot

  • @vladiflorence1 Hi Vladi Glad you like my videos. Feel free to ask any question you ma have.

  • I like it good done

  • @yaldezadham Thanks.

  • i am making this tonight...i saw your video before, which inspired me to want to make them...i looked at other videos making cabbage rolls but yours is the best..I cant wait to make this later on.THANK YOU!!!

  • Hi! this looks amazing! I am going to the grocery store now to make it. Can I put it in a casserole dish instead of using the plate in the pot? Or can I make it without using the plate? Thanks!

  • @stefandlouie The Idea is to put a little weight on the cabbage rolls so that it holds the rolls down and not open while cooking. Any plate or dish you use should be heat resistant and preferably oven safe. Hope this helps and let me know how the recipe turns out for you. - Mariette :)

  • @HowToExpo @HowToExpo Thank you! It turned out really good, better than I expected considering some of the filling was hanging out of the sides of the cabbage! It was so delicious! Thank you again for your help!

  • @stefandlouie Absolutely! Thank you for trying it. For it not to fall out on the sides, just fold the cabbage from the sides before rolling it. I am so happy that you enjoyed it -Mariette

  • @HowToExpo I

  • @HowToExpo Next question! This was so good that I am making more as I type this. My question is that I want to freeze it so that when we need a quick dinner we can have it. Can you tell me the best way to freeze? Thank you!

    Stef

  • @stefandlouie Hi Stef, I am so thrilled that you tried it and you loved it! It is a family favorite and a recipe I have made for ah lets see, decades! lol. Absolutely you can freeze it. Simply after cooking the cabbage rolls, place them in your desired container(s) It may be a good idea to put it in small containers so that the need to refreeze is not necessary. Cover with plastic wrap, and air tight lid and place in the freezer. It will be good for at least 1 month. -Mariette

  • @stefandlouie Sorry to not be able to answer sooner. Next time you cook the cabbage rolls put anything, plate or Pyrex lid over the rolls. The idea of the plate is to hold the cabbage rolls firmly together so that they don't get loose while boiling and let the stuffing out.

  • Lovely!

  • @ReasonsItrust thanks

  • ah, you are making me hungry already.

  • @Feisty1967 By reading your comment I felt hungry too. I will go to the market and buy a head or two of cabbage, I am making this tomorrow.

  • Thanks a lot from Costa Rica, I´ll try it tonight!

  • @alvarojm666 You're welcome.

  • I have never thought of adding tomato sauce to the meat mixture but I will try this out since it seems that it will add more taste. I am used to having larger oval cabbage rolls but this style is also very nice and would make a great side dish too. tks for sharing :D

  • @goldengirl67 You're welcome. Tomato gives great flavor to this dish. Sometimes I add tomato juice over the rolls while cooking.

  • can I use left over steamed rice instead of raw rice? and thank you for the upload, it looks very tasty and healthy!

  • @danielismiracle Using already cooked rice, is not recommended because it will become over cooked and mushy. Perhaps blanching the cabbage longer may help to reduce the cooking time. But honestly I never have tried it with cooked rice. You can certainly give it a try, it will still taste good may not look the same though. Hope this helps and I appreciate your message. Do let me know the outcome.

  • Dang I'm Hungry now....... :-) Love ya.

  • @GaryLeventhal lol hope you fulfilled that hunger :) TY so sweet!

  • @GaryLeventhal i know its so good i love it

  • YAMI THANKS A LOT ITS SO GOOD

  • @armeniamaroc Glad you liked the video and I appreciate your message! -Mariette

  • Thank you for sharing this, I think I will try it without rice, since I cannot have it in my diet right now. I'll also use the suggestion you made to another commenter about cooking in tomato sauce if it will not be eaten with sour cream. I don't know if I've ever even had cabbage rolls! You did a great job explaining things.

  • @pdxhollym You're welcome. i have never cooked the rolls without rice. i have cooked them without meat but not without rice. will you please let me know what was the result? Thanks.

  • nice dish.... I like it ... do we have to put garlic on top of the stuffed cabbage while its ready to be cooked?

  • @ThePari24 Thank you for your comment. The garlic on top is optional, if you are not much of a garlic fan, then you can put less garlic or simply not add garlic on top to cook with the cabbage rolls. Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions. ~Mariette

  • mmmmmm another delicious recipe! thank you for sharing! i love you

  • @dieaana557 Thanks for the nice comment. Greatly appreciated.

  • You can see this is very popular. Everyone claims it originated in their country. If you move to Texas we can say we invented these "cowboy rolls". GRIN

  • Very yummie but need to be alot bigger and alot more meat in it yummmmm

  • @kcthecook1 You can do that. Thanks for posting.

  • Polish stuffed cabbage is served with tomato sauce, and call "golabki" in polish which means pigeons :)

  • @Camilla23uk It's interesting for me to know if Polish way of stuffed cabbage is similar or different from my recipe. I will be grateful if you share it with me. Thanks.

  • I can smell and taste it already. Yummy!

  • can't believe this no one suggested fried butter here. Ok, fry some butter on a pan with black pepper and make it looking little bit burned and then spill on top off the yoghurt just 10 seconds before you serve and you are gonna feel like you are in heaven.

  • @iddqds I do that with butter and cumin in another recipe. I will try your suggestion. Thanks for sharing.

  • Your video was very to understand. Thanks I will let you know when I make. Looks very tasty!
