What difference does a fish tail make? Sorry if I sound crap at surfing, but I'm just beggining.

@Rellepog If your starting then it doesn't make any difference. But once you get better and you start to notice the details you would see that fish tails gives an extra push in the take off and also when sliding down the line. Butt it is also harder to control in terms of power turns like snaps and carves because it doesn't bury the rails as easily as say round or squash tail. Still this is a fish tail shortboard. Real Fishes are way harder to control.

thats true, its a shortboard with a modern tiny fish tail or swallow -- small fish tail. not a classic fish board flat, thick and short - its not even a hotdog talking about thickness.

His style reminds me of a goofy footed Mark Richards "wounded gull" with a beginner Derek Ho flair. He needs to get more vert via modern high performance. Don't get me wrong, the first time I seen myself on video it freaked me out so I continue to tweak and refine it.

hang on.... isn't every design subject to adjustment and change. the term fish is applied to so many different shapes that the wide thick twin keeled original fish designs are no longer alone. aspects of other shapes have been added to accentuate the desired performance characteristics. in this case the rails are thinned out, the tail narrowed to improve it's handling in steeper sections and to allow th board to surf on the rail. looks very different but she's a fish at heart.

Hey good surfing but thats not what I'd call a fish. It has a swallow tail and twin fins and all, but a classic retro fish has a deep swallow tail and a kind of wide stubby shape to it. Nice song choice though.

Thats a small swallow thruster, i would hesitate to even call that a hybrid. A fish has a swallow tail with the pins no less than 9.5 inches apart, and very little rocker. The retro ones are thick too. I'm sure most people know this, it just seems odd that the title says 'fish'

Its actually a performance or Hybrid fish. I own one and if you knew what you where talking about, you would realize when you see the board at the begining on the vid is that its wider in the body and nose area and tail area than a standard thruster and thicker in the rails. So any one who thinks its a swallow-tailed thruster is probably a clueless beginer.

it is a hybrid. a fish cant be used in 7 ft waves. i have one, it catches waves easy,rides like a shortboard. nice cutbacks, wave is too closed out for tubes. great surfing

It catches waves easy, gets over the flat spots, has to be turned torquey-funky and catches the edges too easy...sounds like a fish to me. the more curvey tail allows this guy to be a little smoother than a lis or a frye, but this was a great example to show my buds why i gave up fishing in the '80s.
