  • You Are A GOD!

  • I was getting the Same Code 11...The Problem was 100% noticable because while driving and at idle the van would jump along with the rpm's so basically i couldnt drive the van at all untill i replaced and and when i took the old one out it was well worn out with no metal on the sensor at all so it needed a new sensor bad so I Replaced the sensor and all is good No engine light and no jumping what so ever!!!

  • Make sure you check the depth of the sensor. You can insert it too far ( bolt hole is adjustable) and get the magnet torn to shreds in the flywheel. You can also insert and tighten it not far enough and van won't start. It's like the magneto in a lawn mower. Just a hair off the flywheel is perfect.

  • Did you replace this because of ignition/start up issues or for another reason? I've been told I need to replace mine... sometimes it doesn't crank, but it's only after the engine starts to sputter, flutter and joke (and eventually stalls). When this happens it doesn't always want to crank.

  • I can't blame you about the main seals. The 3.0L is a decent, high-mileage engine. The only things that really need much attention are the valve guide seals, the timing belt and water pump. I did the latter two on my New Yorker and it took me an afternoon. The pump leaked and since it was open, decided to change the belt.

  • for all these kinds of parts i get alot of them at the junkyard sensor relays anything ins tead of paying high prices at the auto zone lol.never fails me even tho they r used

  • Is a Crankshaft Sensor the same as a Camshaft position Sensor? I pluged in my 1996 dodge caravan and I got the code P0340, and it said it was the Camshaft position Sensor, nothing about the crankshaft. But I can't find anything about the Camshaft. So I was wondering if its the same thing. If its not the same thing....would anyone know where the Camshaft Sensor is located? Thank You!!!!

  • camshaft sensor is located inside the distrubutor. it is a real bitch to replace.

  • Is it posible that the CPS sending an erradic signal, could cause erradic shifting in the auto tranny? I've heard that the CPS doubles as a "speed sensor" in which such signal is used by the electronics in the auto tranny.

  • aye mane thanks for the help i just replaced the sensor today and it works....

  • Just had our tranny replaced.. no joke about the transmissions on these vehicles.. and their hard to find.. 1 day out of the shop, it stalled, thought it was fuel pump but it's the crank shaft , 2nd time replacing it! Can anyone tell me the good about these "common" vans?? Seems like everyone has them, but how they keep them on the road is beyond me..I'm thinking of cutting my losses and getting rid of mine!

  • @doorboydave my 97 town and country has one of "these" transmissions with 146,000 miles on the original build. just take care of it with maintenance and it lasts

  • I can only imagine the hours and money you have spent keeping that dodge on the road. Hopefully your next ride will be trouble free.

  • That 'breather hose' that you ghetto rigged, is that the PCV valve?

If so, that could also be a part of the reason why it dies sometimes.

  • @xxmoney91xx it's the other "end" of the PCV system.

  • Nice video! Wish you would have talked about installing the sensor and making the adjustment so it touches the trigger wheel. I work for Wells manufacturing and it is a common call and the problem ends up being the adjustment during install. Take Care.

  • Had two of the dodge Caravans, and the are known for the tranny going bad (had a couple of friends that had them as well) just cant do a car tranny in a vehicle that size. White smoke, engine working too hard to move that burnt tranny.

  • How you know if your Crankshaft Sensor is bad?

  • would you know were the sencor is on a 2002 VW beetle 1.8

  • Thanks for posting this I have the same van, same year, same engine & been having the same problem. How's your van been since you replaced the CPS is it still cutting out or did this solve the problem?

  • No problems since replacing it. The trouble code hasn't come back either, so it completely resolved the issue! $44 well spent!

  • Thanks for the reply I replaced mine 2 days ago & it hasn't stalled out since . However my engine light came back on & gave me a P0300random cylinder Misfire code.

  • I had that for several months. I replaced ignition wires, distributor cap/rotor, spark plugs, etc.. all to no avail.. One day, I replaced the cap again and reseated the rotor and it went away.. go figure.

  • You caravan been a good car???

  • When it works yeah. But I've had to put a lot of money into it. So far I've had to have the Transmisson, Rear shocks, Oil Pan Gasket, Valve Gasket, Timing Belt, Water Pump changed in the last 2 years. If you are condiering buying one of these used I suggest you check all main drivetrain components or go to a mechanic & have it checked out before you buy it. Especially check for rough shifting while test driving as these vans are known to have a lot of transmission problems.

  • I was getting that code for 4 months, I gave up on it. I replaced the rotor, cap, ignition wires, spark plugs, etc... no fix. I hadi nstalled the new rotor with the old bolt.. I reseated it and used the new bolt, and cleaned up the cap a little.. and it hasn't come back since. My tranny is slipping now, however.. and I'm getting white smoke on idle when up to running temp.. so I'm thinking she doesn't have much life left in her.

  • I just replaced all the stuff you mentioned 6 days ago when I first noticed the stalling issues thinking I wasn't getting enough spark. So your saying you just replaced the new rotor screw with the original & the light shut off after that? That sucks that your tranny is slipping it will go & they aren't cheap at least where I'm at I spent about $1500 with labor & tax on a rebuilt.

  • I actually replaced the old rotor screw with the new one. My friend installed it for me while I was working on the valve cover gaskets and he didn't even open up the new screw. See if there are notches in your new disty cap... if there are, something there isn't right.

  • Thank you for the information. So this van the tranmission break down alot?

  • Yes.

  • ALOT!!

  • How about Durango tranmission problem?

  • they have their own problems
