I have been told that the dept of parks and rec is in charge of the train and they make the decisions about it, yet I know for a fact that they did not decide to remove it from Clinch Park. The Bay Front Planning committee decided it did not fit their idea of a multi-generational park and have not said why they think that.
This is the last year for the train. The Bay Front Planning committee removed the train from the Clinch Park plans (construction will start this fall) with little or no discussion according to commissioner Jim Carruthers and Gary Howe. No one else on the Bay Front (T. Michael Jackson, Jennifer Jaffee, Nate Elkins, Michael Borer, Rick Shimmel and Russ Soyring) have responded to inquiries about the train.
The engine is about 3500 lbs, the tender is about 1000 lbs with oil and water, each empty car is about 1500 lbs. It will do quite a bit of damage to full size cars. It is kinda amazing of how people think this is a "toy" and I have been asked if it is made out of plastic.
