..Albert and BB may have influenced his phrasing, along with Robert Johnson and other Delta Blues players as far as his level of feeling the blues, but Freddie King and Buddy Guy -- if they could have had a baby, it would have been Eric Clapton!
OK, I've been watching/listening to a few of these Freddie King clips... Have been a Clapton fan since '80, and have paid enough attention to see that a vast array of earlier players were the foundation of a lot of what he plays. But after this particular song, I gotta say that as many other players factor into Eric's style, it's unmistakable that Freddie and Buddy Guy were his biggest influences as far as fretwork is concerned.
I am Dutch, 23 years old, drive a Toyota Supra, got a tatoo of Alter Bridge on my back, grew up with Guns 'N' Roses... But when I drive, I listen to Freddie King! :-D
I wanna add 31 extra likes. The performance of this number on the old Rockschool series was the first time I'd heard it. Freddie is a bad, bad man. He squeezes juice outta that Gibson. He's TOTALLY underrated.
Thats how it is most of the time the ones who layed all the ground work for Johnny come lately's!!!! Like the sound of the originals because it shows how some one came and used it!!!
Freddie King,Albert Collins,Johnny Guitar Watson,Johnny Copeland,Stevie Ray, I think Gatemouth Brown, and The God Father Aaron Thibodeaux Walker are sons of Texas.
@Iksvelabrog1 : hi , i did read an Angus interview long time ago and he said he would like to be called Angus King because of Albert , Freddy and BB KING . that's the way i discovered them . thank to Angus :)
This just proves my theory! whatever colour whatever size you r. you truly can rock the world if you just love what you do... Freddie your an inspiration to all of us...
..the late Freddie King-Texas Blues..(for the unlearned)-ZZ Top got many liks from this dude..and the Bass Player didn't have his 'fro' Saturday night in New Orleans..HAHA!!!..was a good show..
@jadedsaint1776 - Yes Great a show !! The Bass player is the Freddie Brother, Benny Turner King, long time with Marva Writght in New Orleans and livin' at this time in Bourbon Street.
Every rock tune from the 70s is in this song.in my opinion FREDDIE KING WAS 1 OF THE FIRST TRUE ROCK GUITARIST.Him and BUDDY GUY,CHUCK BERRY.They were the first to just crank it up and go wild. Not just blues or boogie BUT ROCK.
@bigman12583 Yes, and yes. If 31 people popped their lips off mommy's teet (or were developed beyond a spinal cord) and paid the $3.00 - 4.50 to plant their asses at a '70-76 Freddie concert, they would limit their posts to praise. But then again you can't teach stem cell fetuses about the Blues. Shucks, come to think of it, you can't fix stupid either . . . etc.
That's what I'm talking about! That's is MF goooood
