Wow! Now I know why they nicknamed it the 'Yellowbird'. You can actually hear the turbo spooling away and that lovely, distinct, Canary-bird-like whistle of the BOV from 00:35 - 00:43. Sheer brilliance!
all this RUF talk that they are their own company... what kind of engine are they using? I asume a porsche engine as it would be tough to fit anything else in a porsche boday and frame.. and its a porsche frame adn body too.. so what is RUF actually manufacturing and doing the R&D on? Seems like its a modified porsche to me!
RUF is to Porsche like Hamman is to BMW (and many others) and Brabus is to Mercedes-Benz. They aren't funded by the companies, just own licences to their cars. Now, M at BMW, AMG at MB, RS (Renault Sport) at Renault and RS (Rallye Sport) at Ford, are divisions of their companies, therefore a direct part, also funded by the company itself.
RUF is an official manufacturer, even though they are based on Porsche's cars. I love RUF, we are very lucky to have a FUR dealer in D/FW (Dallas/Fort Worth), I just need to sell more houses, I hope to own a RUF someday. I've had two Porsche 951s, brilliant cars!
wait till you see the numbers that the C T R 3 puts out, once it's run through it's first official tests. Talk about fast. 3 point 2 zero to 60 time, not estimated, actual. I heard some rumors it was actually closer to 3, flat.
ruf takes untitled chassis and put them through there own extensive modifications which makes the car a ruf, they also do in house tuning for people who want to produce more horsepower out of there 911s,930,s and so on ,thus is the case between the ctr first generation which is a ruf and not necessarily a porsche and the btr which is essentially a modified 930
Also, Alpina is more like a subsidiary of BMW. All Alpinas have the BMW badge on them. The RUF's do not have the Porsche badge but rather the initials "RUF"
Sorry mate but thats crap, I owned a 'proper' not a badge engineered Alpina B3 2.7 Touring straight from the Factory at Buchloe Germany.
there was not a single BMW badge on it anywhere.
The Vin plate was 'Alpina', the V5 reg document was 'Alpina'.
Im not talking about a BMW that someone has gone and bought a set of Alpina wheels and body styling, proper Alpina's are not registered as BMW's - thats a FACT.....
Exactly, I've got a C2 2.7 and everything is Alpina, steering wheel, alloys, badges, engine rocker cover, exhaust, manifold, dash plaque, front spoiler, rear spoiler.
One discrepency where you're wrong, some C2 convertibles are not registered as 2.7 Alpinas, but still stock M20B25s. This is a fact.
Ring up Sytner nottingham and find out, my Alpinas down as a 2.5 automatic from the factory. It's definitely NOT FAKE, it's sitting in Premier BMW Showroom in Wales. Check it out.
your alpina is a fake FACT! its a boyracers badged up 3 series your such an idiot you cant even tell its got blag badges all over it, anyway alpinas hardly compare with a 500hp 1980,s classic porsche racer you fool.
I didn;t say Alpina was faster than RUF, I said Porsche was faster than Alpina, so you're the stupid fool for not being able to read.
Also, my Alpina is not fake because I have the original delivery note from the car by Frank Sytner and Hexagon BMW in Nottingham detailing the conversion specifictions. It's on the records. It's not a boy racer, no. I'm not so stupid as to buy a fake. I know my E30's and this is not the badged turds no....
Right hand drive M-tech 1, 2.7 automatic with an EH switchable sports box, complete with an Alpina diff only means one thing...Alpina. Since when are EH sports box 2.7's M20B25's ever non Hartge or Alpina?
And if you also go to Wiki you will see that Alpina is classified as a manufacturer in its own right, it is not registered as a BMW, the BMW roundel that may appear on some cars is only on the recent stuff that has been built up by supplying dealerships, anything that comes from Buchloe Germany will wear the Alpina Roundel
What Ruf is needs to be cleared up a little. While Ruf is considered a "tuning company" like Alpine, the extent of their modifications on stock Porsche's is so extensive, it warrents the rebadging of the car as a Ruf. Therefore, a Ruf car is registered as a Ruf, and not a Porsche.
ruf are a little german company who tune porsches and also make some of their own cars, which all tend to be very fast and look like porsches because porsche let ruf use their body designs.
@speedychrissie To be technical, RUF don't actually 'tune' Porsches so to speak, they get blank Porsche shells with no VIN and install their own parts. RUF are actually classed as a manufacturer in their own right
RUF is an official manufacturer, even though they are based on Porsche's cars. I love RUF, we are very lucky to have a FUR dealer in D/FW (Dallas/Fort Worth), I just need to sell more houses, I hope to own a RUF someday. I've had two Porsche 951s, brilliant cars!

There different models though. CTR represents the fastest RUF of the period, where they go all out on them. RGT is more of a tuned Porsche.
Run the 'Yellowbird' against a CTR 2, or better still a CTR 3.
But still an astonishing car, i wish i had one : (

Actually Alpina's do not have BMW badges on.
They have Alpina vin numbers and Alpina badges.
Also on the registration document the car is an Alpina not a BMW.

Alpinas are much quicker than stock Beamers too, but not so much as to compete with RUF no.
BMW has too many counterpats to actaully differentiate properly like RUF, in a way.

The CTR Yellowbird. Wolf in sheep's clothing.
I've seen so many people comment on the Ruf vids, saying things like "The Porsche Ruf" etc.
No, it is NOT a Porsche. It is an Ruf, just as Brabus is an independent manufacturer from Mercedes-Benz.
