It does this when the catalytic converter is cold - to warm it up faster reducing emissions - as the cat doesnt work well when cold. Should idle normally once warmed up?
@agoodm Yeah once the engine is warm it idles at around 750rpm (on the needle the one before the 1000rpm mark). Though recently, on these cold mornings the car still starts as normal but the needle will bounce back down to the 800rpm mark and then it will idle back up to the 1300rpm mark until it's warm.
i have a focus on a w reg 2000 same engine and mine does the same on a cold start ticks over at 1000rpm ish for a bout 10second then goes to 1300 rpm till its warmed up still ive never had any problems with it touch wood
and my ford focus does that.I have a 2004 1.6 with the zetec-se engine.It starts at 1000 revs and it picks up revs if it is cold.
