current CO2 levels are at 390 ppm and rising. it wont be long before antarctica begins to thaw as fast as greenland currently is, which btw is rising out of the sea at a rate of 1 inch per year. when antarctica thaws enough it too will rise out of the sea. it is connected to every tectonic plate around the world and will crack the earths crust. this isnt doomsday bull, this is science, and quite likely the worse threat facing mankind.

@xpez According to latest reports, ice peaks and caps have record gains, Greenland is now back to it's pre-2000 levels and Iceland shows a growth rate of a few inches a year. I choose to believe climatologists and real weather data that is readily available online from the institutions that record them. You can even watch a progress of ice growth from each year.

The Ocean is not rising. The sea floor is dropping due to the added weight of the water. The problem will not be global warming in the long run as, that is a function of cycles over time. The problem will be one of adaptation as, generally speaking, folks cannot fend for themselves and are in no way prepared for this. Therefore, they are reliant upon the powers that be for their sustenance. What a shame.
The hole in the ozone that has appeared annually over Antarctica has allowed more heat to escape than historically. The hole is shrinking now due to global efforts to ban CFC chemicals. As the hole diminishes, more heat will be trapped again over the South Pole. The melting will further accelerate.
Sadly the ozone layer is also important to life on the planet. So stocking up on hairspray won't help us either.

Actually its very difficult to say whether it is accelerating or not, as that requires high confidence measurements of ice loss rates, and statistically significant observed changes in that rate over long periods. We don't have that, let alone any credible mechanism whereby it could continue to accelerate at the orders-of-magnitude required for catastrophic meltdown.
We simply don't currently have the knowledge to calculate how long it will take. It's highly unlikely that it will continue at the same rate and take 300,000 years but we have no idea how long it will be.
That's why the IPCC left those calculations completely out of their estimate of sea level rise.

Actually, having more CO2 causes some plants to grow larger but have less nutrition while many crop plants will actually become less abundant because the temperatures become too high while the arctic areas that lose ice won't make up for the loss of cropland due to the increase in ocean levels because there's no topsoil. In most of Canada the winters are coming earlier and the springs later. We had spring in August and winter is arriving any day. But that's how global cooling manifests itself. WTF are you talking about? The Antarctic SEA Ice may be growing, but the Antartic LAND Ice is melting at an alraming rate. Actually, the reason for the increased SEA Ice is because the LAND Ice melt has diverted the currents around Antarctica. Either way, the LAND Ice is melting.

I would think that LOGICALLY, the energy output fluctuation of the sun would have an overwhelmingly greater effect on global temperatures then anything 6 billion people could produce.
And that doesn't even take into account other natural environmental factors like ocean currents, volcano's and the like.
why has the increase in temperature persisted outside of the increased activity in the suns 11 year cycle? and why does warming happen during winter and during the night? if its the sun, none of that should be true :) but measurements indicate otherwise.
This video is in stark contrast to a major report released in February of this year compiled from the work of scientists from 60 countries. This report says that glaciers in Antarctica are melting much faster than previously thought. You can find articles on this report by googling
yea they are referring to the antarctic peninsula, any of those reports are very misleading considering it only represents 2% of the entire continent and there are only 244 glaciers that exist there.
First of all, only west antarctica can melt, the rest is solid land. Secondly, the peninsula contains a massive amount of ice and yes it is a sign of how quickly glacier melting is happeneing.
Haven't you ever read about the Larsen-B ice shelf? It was 150 miles long and 30 miles wide. Even with global warming, it was supposed to last at least another century but instead it completly broke up in 35 days. Glacial melting is normal but not at this rate.

It's also very easy to believe everything that Fox news 'reports' despite the fact that it has no facts to support most of its stories. Almost all of the very few agencies that have denied global warming recieve funding from oil and coal companies. This is exactly like what happened when doctors were paid by tobacco companies to say that tobacco was not harmful or addictive.

current CO2 levels are at 390 ppm and rising. it wont be long before antarctica begins to thaw as fast as greenland currently is, which btw is rising out of the sea at a rate of 1 inch per year. when antarctica thaws enough it too will rise out of the sea. it is connected to every tectonic plate around the world and will crack the earths crust. this isnt doomsday bull, this is science, and quite likely the worse threat facing mankind.

@xpez According to latest reports, ice peaks and caps have record gains, Greenland is now back to it's pre-2000 levels and Iceland shows a growth rate of a few inches a year. I choose to believe climatologists and real weather data that is readily available online from the institutions that record them. You can even watch a progress of ice growth from each year.

The Ocean is not rising. The sea floor is dropping due to the added weight of the water. The problem will not be global warming in the long run as, that is a function of cycles over time. The problem will be one of adaptation as, generally speaking, folks cannot fend for themselves and are in no way prepared for this. Therefore, they are reliant upon the powers that be for their sustenance. What a shame.

Ironically, ozone is a greenhouse gas.
The hole in the ozone that has appeared annually over Antarctica has allowed more heat to escape than historically. The hole is shrinking now due to global efforts to ban CFC chemicals. As the hole diminishes, more heat will be trapped again over the South Pole. The melting will further accelerate.
Sadly the ozone layer is also important to life on the planet. So stocking up on hairspray won't help us either.

Well, since nobody's really decided what to do yet, I think it's a little early to predict that it will worsen things. But that has nothing to do with whether or not the science is correct.
And I believe we're smart enough to figure out a way to tackle the problem in ways that will actually IMPROVE the situation for poor people rather than aggravate it. Maybe if we stop fighting about whether or not it's even happening we can get together and figure out how to solve it.

Actually its very difficult to say whether it is accelerating or not, as that requires high confidence measurements of ice loss rates, and statistically significant observed changes in that rate over long periods. We don't have that, let alone any credible mechanism whereby it could continue to accelerate at the orders-of-magnitude required for catastrophic meltdown.

We simply don't currently have the knowledge to calculate how long it will take. It's highly unlikely that it will continue at the same rate and take 300,000 years but we have no idea how long it will be.
That's why the IPCC left those calculations completely out of their estimate of sea level rise.

An investigation into the claims of malfeasance by TWO climate sciences (Phil Jones and Michael Mann) of the Hadley Research Center at East Anglia University cleared them of virtually all "charges". About the only thing they could come up with is that Dr. Jones' record keeping was rather sloppy and he might have lost some data. There are THOUSANDS of scientists and studies and sets of data that haven't been invalidated AT ALL.

But I'm very familiar with Roy Spencer's web site and his objections to AGW theory and as soon as he gets some peer reviewed studies that actually disprove something, then I might believe him.
Until then, although he's one of the few skeptics who's actually a skeptic (and not a denier), and who I respect, the vast majority of climate scientists outweigh him.

summers are cooler now than in past 5 years

Actually, having more CO2 causes some plants to grow larger but have less nutrition while many crop plants will actually become less abundant because the temperatures become too high while the arctic areas that lose ice won't make up for the loss of cropland due to the increase in ocean levels because there's no topsoil. Sorry, but you've been listening to myths that are designed to fool people who don't know much about science.

Yes some plants would disappear from some places but they would show up in other places.

Seems to me a global tax would necessitate a global government to collect the tax... because that is who collects taxes... governments. Hence a global government has nothing to do with the Constitution. So your right, neither clean burning fuel nor global carbon tax have anything to do with our constitution. I think I answered pretty well... the question was intended to suggest that the solution to Global Warming is clean burning fuel. That is not the solution being offered, the only solution being offered is a global tax. Governments collect taxes, so by creating a global tax a global government needs to be created to collect it. My logical approach was backward, but correct.

Let me make some predictions, just guesses, scenarios. Obama while on the campaign trail promised to bankrupt the coal industry. Now it looks as if he'll keep that promise. That'll make him a one-term president. Half of the US power comes from coal and when the freezing hits this winter, there'll be brownouts and maybe long blackouts. climate change is NOT a hoax GLobal warming IS.. do believe the media they will only pick grossely exagerated and flawed models... but climate change will cause more flooding. spring comes earlier ( noticably in the uk and more in the higher longtitudes nearer the artic circle. we get warmer and wetter weather. some floods are influenced by man made river banks protection in cities so it's the small towns that get flooded in the uk , it's happening more. the jury is out on actual impact

In most of Canada the winters are coming earlier and the springs later. We had spring in August and winter is arriving any day. But that's how global cooling manifests itself. Idaho just got a dump of snow. But that's climate change, aka, cooling. We had our warming and now we're having our cooling. Global cooling will likely make the Brits wish they'd bought a few thousand snowplows instead of babbling about warming. Hard to find an intelligent politician these days.

However, by studying ice cores the Australian Antarctic Division was able to estimate ice cover as far back at the 1840's. This research concluded that there has in fact been a 20% decline in sea ice cover since the 1950s. In Antarctica, temperatures have risen by more than 3degrees Celcius over the past 50 years, which is up to 6 times the global average.

If there was a 20 % decline in sea ice since the 1950s, it must have been all since 1979, as sattelites have shown no decline. As for your claim of 3 deg C rise, sume you refer only to the Antarctic peninsular: about 2% of Antarctica's land mass. Otherwise please post your evidence.

I would think that LOGICALLY, the energy output fluctuation of the sun would have an overwhelmingly greater effect on global temperatures then anything 6 billion people could produce.

Haven't you ever read about the Larsen-B ice shelf? It was 150 miles long and 30 miles wide. Even with global warming, it was supposed to last at least another century but instead it completly broke up in 35 days. Glacial melting is normal but not at this rate.
