  • I could see all five pixels!!!

  • I have not seen resolution like this since the 80's. Is this an old DOS program?

  • Also- What the Crap was Lucas thinking when he scrapped the full-scale models of the Falcon and the fighters!? -Are you joking ??? The money he would have been making -TO THIS DAY- from having a hangar/Museum of those crafts would have made him the wealthiest man in the universe! lol... -So much of those proceeds could be given both to charity as well as to further research on actual exploration. -I'd have been there a hundred times by now!

  • This is something I've always thought about doing -and was my sole reason to play any kind of lottery ;) -As some will agree, and some won't, I would be a bit more interested in the refit version being in full scale. However, The way I would think it could work best is to have a location excavated in the desert and build it inside. that way, the tour could begin with a 360 exterior tour. -essentially 'drydock' underground .. -then hire MIT/Paul Allen to build actual drives and OFF YOU GO! ;)

  • @RemoteExplo

somebody has thought of this already with concept artwork..it is called:- ALL TREKKERS UNITE TO BUILD IT. A REAL ENTERPRISE. (star trek for real) on youtube...

  • It doesnt have to fly, just be in a hangar at a US AFB that is over 947ft long by 417ft wide by the height(138 ft, I think?)

  • Some guy built a 1:1 scale model of the version from tng in minecraft you should check it out

  • Just build a full scale TOS Enterprise in space to use as a space station and resort.

Then in the future add real warp drive engines.

  • @mcsdaver

Things in orbit slowly come back down. Unless it's extremely lightweight, or passed the orbit required to stay stable. Otherwise you need thrusters to keep it back up.

Not only would building it in space be extremely expensive (cargo in the Space Shuttles was something like $10.000 a pound) but if it came back down, it would basically obliterate whatever it hit.

It's taken them 17 years, with the help of multiple countries, to get to the current ISS. This would be impossible.

  • Do you have this on a public server somewhere? I would love to check it out using BS Contact myself. :-)

  • make a Ebon Hawk!

  • is this on atari?

  • Although I do have to commend your efforts on making the Enterprise 1:1 scale, it seems that the program that you're using is less than stellar in the graphical acuity. Whether this is software related or hardware related, though, I could not even begin to tell you.

  • @Kelvari7882 Sorry about the graphic quality - the work is rendering in a real time program at the same time another program is recording the frames for the video... not the best way to do it, but there's few choices. VRML is a real-time renderer.

  • Dude, if you're gonna try to render a 1:1 scale TOS Enterprise model, you're gonna need a helluva lot more horsepower! Try starting with building a Beowulf cluster out of some old, junker computers and use that as a render farm.

  • @fuzzybeard2016 Sorry about the graphic quality - the work is rendering in a real time program at the same time another program is recording the frames for the video... not the best way to do it, but there's few choices. VRML is a real-time renderer. Render farm would be great, but wouldn't help with VRML!

  • it's actually a very nice rendition considering the graphics engine nice work

  • About building a life-size enterprise in space... please take a physics course or read a book - Lawrence Krauss, "Physics of Star Trek" or "Beyond Trek." Point one - if it's useless sitting in orbit, no one will spend the billions getting the building materials into orbit. Point two - there are no building materials you can actually use in space (i.e. you can't pour concrete in the vacuum of space). Point three - even if you build it, there's no artificial gravity to walk around with!

  • @brookestephen The billions aren't necessarily spent on 'hardware'; launching components into orbit with expensive disposable rockets is. Plus when you also have to keep redundant records on every torque rating during assembly... a fuel injector replacement for your car would cost 50 times as much as a standard shop service for doing the repair? Bureacrats run up the billing... not physics. I can only imagine how space in 200 years from now will be worked economically.

  • @brookestephen Backwards thinking or at least thinking like the early 21st century and before whereas ST is the late 22nd century and after.

  • @brookestephen , or you could go the real world route, and start building real world objects in space. Such as a Babylon 5 style space station, which uses centrifugal force as artificial gravity. Concrete (assuming you want to pour concrete) will work in that. Or you could mold parts, using reusable molds. Granted, for a practical starship, we are still limited by technology. But heh, tech advances. Though it is true, there is no way we would use modern Earth construction techniques in orb

  • @TowTruckJoe1 i totally agree with you! the money that could be made from it would FAR outweigh the money needed for it to be built. it would be amazing to roam the halls of the USS Enterprise (although, i think alot of imagination would be needed, considering not EVERY deck and room, was shown in the tv series).

  • @mycrofttrek well, I am trying to build the whole thing in Virtual Reality using the published architectural deck plans!! EVERY ROOM! or is that cabin?

  • @mycrofttrek I once knew a guy with no money, but he had big dreams. They all centered on the property and money of others. He proposed a full-sized Enterprise be built with a tour inside. He received a polite letter from Paramount.

  • Thats really cool :)

  • i would build a real scale one and make it a Hotel... all workers dressed up like crew (aliens included)... that would be a nice business

  • If some big companies pulled their heads out of their ass...they could build a full size enterprise. Of course it would be stuck to the earth with concrete...But think of the tourism and conventions..and all the marketing. It could possibly inspire millions of the possibilities...of the future and space travel. Now that would be cool...what would be the downside?? We spend money on stupid shit everyday...how about something fun that inspires us.??

  • ive always wondered why they didint just have a game of just walking around the enterprise, every room and every deck

  • cant wait for Star trek on-line though--close enough :)

  • @erich10001 Cheers to you mate! That's a great idea, and that is what I'm working up to... would you like a sample file - not a whole deck - for inspection?

  • @brookestephen TOS Enterprise is the best one-- i have a book on the making of TOS its like 500 pages ill have to find it.. neat how gene Roddenberry designed it with NASA people---they didn't have replicators they had some kind of food making machine back then and thus needed to carry stocks of food:) anyway good job i hope to see more

  • With our technology we could build a real enterprise (minus the warp drive.....for now) and it would be amazing.

  • Oh?

I guess you've never heard of a little thing that I like to call physics... just a name I'm kickin around... kinda catchy... There's a guy named Krauss who wrote a book on The Physic of Star Trek... basically you could read that... you should read that... sorry but it would be completely impossible to build the Enterprise and run it, even without the "warp drive".

  • Meh, not really, anything can fly in space, theres no lift or air to worry about, no drag, no nothing. It couldnt fly in the atmosphere no but there really arent alot of episodes where it does, its almost always in space.

  • @brookestephen I don't really see how, anything could fly in space, down in an atmosphere it would probably just plummet to the ground unless it had some massive downward facing jets, other then that I don't see how it would be impossible.

  • @DystruktoBoi1 it is impossible because things in space can't fly as easy as here on earth. things like fighter jets like the ones in the air force can't fly in space at all. second it'll require alot of money, which we don't have the budget for. so we can't

  • @startrekgamer Things in space dont need to fly there is no air or gravity to fight with, they just float around and any propulsion in 1 direction will keep it going basically forever until something stops it or changes direction. The reason fighter jets dont work in space is because the entire concept on a jet engine needs oxygen to burn the fuel and work properly. The enterprise works on ion drive impulse engines, and we actually have ion drives around today, we just have yet to use them.

  • @DystruktoBoi1 well the starships of star trek had the concept of the ship never moves, the space around it does (the definition of impulse and warp) so technically we could use thrusters but it wouldn't be nearly as fast

  • @brookestephen Actually, it is possible to built the ship, but it wouldn't move and would have no photon torpedoes or phasers or shields. I'm certain that there is nothing within the laws of physics that can prevent us from building a life size replica complete with internal structures.

  • @brookestephen As much as I do love the Star Trek world...physics has to come first. Some people fail to realize what science fiction actually means. Excellent point my friend.

  • @brookestephen what if you build the enterprise in space?

  • @DystruktoBoi1 DYS, dont let this brooke character squash your dreams. The enterprise could be built directly in space and in a wieghtless environment it might even be easier. Secondly, there are always people who come along and say something is impossibly until someone proves them wrong.

  • @DystruktoBoi1 we have gravity drive. Please look up "Marconi Vortex Dynamo" and "Super Fluid Gravity Centrifuge". These pull the G-constant in an effect called "frame dragging". Victor Schauberger's centripetal energy used an "implosion principal". The result is the "plasma engine". Advanced space/time warp engines are disclosed by Bob Lazar. These are distortion emitters using a fuel called "ununpentium". Steven Greer and the disclosure project suggest we are in a galactic community.

  • @dynagravitomagnetic - this is NOT the forum for the kind of psedo-intellectual brain-diarhea you're spouting here - you're missing the point - your comments should be about the video!

  • @brookestephen your effort to describe a star ship are pathetic and you should get some skill before attempting a job like this, I am sorry to say, it totally sucks. Get a better software package. What a waste of time.

  • @dynagravitomagnetic - see I KNEW you could do it! Just comments about the video. That's all I asked for. And look what I got... I got dissed by a 48 year-old who believes in ET and who hasn't added ONE SINGLE VIDEO of his own to YouTube. He's not a graphic artist or a game designer... he's a little girl!

  • @brookestephen The subject matter was starship enterprise, I commented on the parameters and operations thereof, not about the artist. I did not think a fucked up bitch was drawing something and had no real concern except the drawing itself. fuck you faggot, eat shit and die. I hope you feel really great about your comments now you schiitzoid bastard

  • @brookestephen Do a barrel roll!

  • @TowTruckJoe1 indeed strange that noone has done it yet in the US where everything is about money and you can sell the biggest piece of crap with good PR

  • @TowTruckJoe1 That's a cool concept. I would be the first one to pay to see it. I can just imagine the revenue.

  • @TowTruckJoe1 look:-

ALL TREKKERS UNITE TO BUILD IT. A REAL ENTERPRISE. (star trek for real) on youtube

  • I for one have wanted to wander the halls of the tos enterprise since I was a child. I'd pay good money if anyone ever created something similar to the "captain's chair" virtual tour, but that would allow me to go anywhere on the ship.

  • @wtegfm I agree with you!! I built plastic models of the ship in my younger days, wishing I could walk around inside. I'm interested in creating just such a virtual tour, using the VRML technology. Would you like to see a sample file to evaluate? It would not be a completed deck...

  • Good stuff; no doubt a very large volume of personal effort went into this, and I find it to be impressive.

  • @JoshuaH688 Thanks very much! The effort has been spread out over several years, on and off, learning new programming techniques, and way too much math starting with reviewing all my High School Trigonometry!!!

  • That's stunning! I'm familiar with the blueprints and you did a great job. Lots of work and dedication here.

  • @spacecowboy5000 Thanks very much - your comments are appreciated! I've been working on the secondary hull, mostly in my head, but I haven't finished with the Enterprise yet...

  • wat does tos mean i watch star trek but i dont know wat it means

  • Hi there - TOS means The Original Series.

    Thanks for watching!

  • amazing work, i had thought about doing this for maybe a second before coming to my senses, bravo!

  • Hey - thanks for the warning!

So would you have used VRML?

What about using VB to generate the VRML files? What tools would you have used to overcome this challenge?

  • @planetfall I've been hoping that you didn't respond just because you didn't get my response...

Hey - thanks for the warning!

  • i'm no trekie but i watch it from time to time but i must say this it looks great excellent job. it is erie sometimes that star trek has brought alot of the gadgets from screen to life i.e. cell phone butthink we are close to have something like the enterprise come from paper to reality honestly but great work keep it up.

  • Thank you for your kind words.

I haven't worked on this for several months.

Hopefully I can find some time!

  • I'd say screw copyright. Once it's out, it's out - there'd be no stopping it.

However, that'd suck, because over time if you decided to do more work on it, people would probably miss out.

  • This was a pretty involved project!! I like this idea a lot. Seeing the blueprints and walking the halls in real time are a totally different thing. Nice work!!

  • Thanks for the positive feedback!

I'm working on an idea for a how-to video... more like a how-I-did-that video.

  • Hi Hatvok;

    Love your stuff!

I probably won't animate the ship.

I wanted to see what the inside would make the outside look like. Does that make sense?

Everyone has a different mesh of the vessel's hull, but none are dependent on the inside space and function.

This will probably end up as a Museum for people to wander around in and turn on/off functionality, ride the turbolift, wander the halls, or do "circuits" (pilot term) in a shuttlecraft.

  • Looks like a good start, can't wait to see a finished, animated product. :)

  • maby adding some color to the exterior, the red nacelle tips, serial numbers, etc.

  • Hi Kevin!

Thanks for weighing in on this.

I'm building from the inside out, so eventually I'll focus on the external stuff.

Realize that it's life-sized, and I have a life too! LOL

  • Good but,not the best CGi program i see, must be an easyier one to use

  • Hi there!

Do you think DirectX is a better choice?

This has been built for real-time interaction, not for a CGI program to render frames for a movie.

    What can you tell me?

  • Will we be able to download a version of this to play around in?

  • Hi there - I don't know how to yet.

Maybe if I re-build it as a game in DirectX... but it's so big I'm not sure whether it's too big for the DirectX architecture. Any ideas?

  • You, are amazing!

  • And that, Is amazing, lol.

  • We both thank you! LOL

Have you ever been aboard the Enterprise?

    Would you like to?

  • Yes i would like to XD.

  • OK - where would you like to stroll and I'll make a video...! Just tell me from point to point in the ship. SB

  • Ok :D. Can i see the shuttle bay?

  • sorry pal - not much to see yet - I haven't built the hull yet!

The Shuttle Maintenance Bay you can see (deck below the shuttle bay) in a couple of my videos... the ones raising and lower and going inside the partially finished shuttlecraft.

    How about somewhere else?

  • No problem, i cant really think of any were :S.

  • You can see what I have built of the Shuttle bay in the opening shot of this video - there's a big round hole in the floor just at the bottom of the shot.

I know - I could walk down from the Bridge to the Deck 4 Briefing room... how's that Lego-Man?

  • That would be great! :D

  • I'll make the video, and you follow along with the deck plans:

    cygnus-x1 . net / links / lcars / star-trek-blueprints.php

  • Ok thank you!

  • Did you take a look at your requested vid?

  • Yes thank you very much :)
