The beta has been going for a month and a bit now, i believe this was the last beta. NCsoft offered beta to anyone who pre-ordered the game. The beta was a closed beta so it was only open for 3 days at a time. An open beta is TBA.
Simple, the game has roughly 3 mil sales preorder(I believe might be a tad off on the number) and it's brand new, plus City of Heroes is going strong in fact a big influx of people who don't like champions online...pay to play no matter what with a micropay system?!? Apparently the champions team are greedy. Also after WOLTK hit live server in WOW people dumped it as "hey let's make this so easy a kindergartner can do it!"
I'm in beta as well, fun game. My only gripe is that it's too easy, i am a cleric and so far i haven't needed a group for any quests and i have just earned my wings at level 10. It also means nobody is talking to each other at the lower levels, everyone is running around doing there own thing.
I'm still having fun though, i must say the game is shaping up very nicely.
Leveling to 10-15 should be easy...much past that in any mmo should give you some challenge. Granted I've not played aion but will be preordering it in two days...

@zottepedj u can download but u have to activate your serial number that gonna cost u and u will have 30 day game play after that monthly payment
