@international660 She was only classified once as a heifer. She is still in the herd and is one of my best cows. The best heifers calving this year are sired by a bull called Cogent Twist - World;s number one Shottle son
This holstein Cow boy is every where. He seems to be preoccupied making videos than producing milk. I do ubt he has any cows. I think he visits the farms and gets the farmers to allow him to make videos of their cows, Boy this Cow boy is every where. But why is he Holstein cow boy and not Guerensy cow boy or holstein-guerensy cow boy. I tghink he should be teat cow boy.
one of your cows has too many teats. Its rear teats are small. The forward teats are bigger. To me that is a bigger problem than the tilt. As long as she gives milk what difference does it make if it has a tilt.
i liked this young cow. she could develope quiet well. hard to fault on the legs and I loved te udder, However, she seemed to have a bit of a forward tilt
great udder, wonderfully attached. We got one Shaker born from sexed semen. She's about 7 months i'd say. Dam is a Lartist x Rudolph. If she develops into the heifer you showed here, I will be very happy ^^
we used picston shaker seman on one of our heifers and she looks double to your heifer. The problem is with the other heifers that were sired by picston shaker they were really hairy. How many litres does she produce.
Who classifies in the UK? Here in the US it is pretty hard to get a VG cow. I can see this cow possibly going VG or a high + score if she were in the US.
Holstein UK - I think they have 11 people who cover UK & N Ireland. He was here to score heifers sired by test bulls and the heifer in the vid was a comparison. His work here is paid by AI company's Genus/ABS and Cogent. This herd is not pedigree
D D is a nightmare ! Any advice on how to control it ?
I think about 80% of UK herds are affected
We never seen this in our cows till one year we rented some pasture away from the farm and they came home lame - Must have got it from some cattle over the fence
Ok, between you & my vet you clued me in on Curley Toe, (one of Beef Herd's cows had it)
& one of my Holsteins is showing signs of it, vet says its genetic. What is D. D.? What are the signs? As for your cows coming home from a rented pasture, could the organism/spores been in the ground of the rented field rather than across the fence?
Digital dermatitis is also called a strawberry wart due to what the lesions look like. They sometimes have protruding hairy tentacles. They can be quite painful and debilitating to some cows and other cows seem to deal with it and not suffer at all. It showed up in our herd in the late 80s and early 90s. It is still a mystery as to what it really is. A vaccine was made a few years ago but was quite ineffective for most herds and was discontinued. Some people swore by it. I swore at it.
We use a copper sulfate foot bath once they leave the parlor. In extreme cases the hoof trimmer wraps them with a product call quick hit. There was a vaccine available here in the US a few years ago, but it was a complete dud. In non-lactating heifers and cows I will use sustained release sulfa and tetracycline.
It sounds like you are talking about lincomycin or lincomix. We used to put it in our foot bath or topically. It was banned in Pennsylvania and most likely other states a few years ago. If anyone gets caught with it then look out! It is a shame, it worked quite well for us. Formaldehyde is painful for the cow but cures the problem. The only drawback is the stuff can be dangerous.
DD is certainly a nightmare, I milk in a parallel parlour, To treat DD I mix Linko Spectin and onycin 1000 (powerful tetriciclene) together 50/50, and add a little bit of glycol to it to make a paste. Then while the cow is in the parlour I hose the affected area off and quickly smear it on, In my parlour I never seem to get kicked this way, because the cow always kicks forward, although I have had my fingers stomped on several times.
Lovely Shaker heifer you got there. Teats look a little long in the front, and she looks a little narrow in the chest (like all shakers) but lovely veination, I bet she must collapse right in after milking. Don't know about the music though :P
mjdbbd, what the Hell kind of poster are you for posting a comment like this?? Do you WORK all the time??? These videos give HC an "out" plus he tries for them to be informational for those of you who don't have a clue about dairying. It's a hard life, no vacations, no sick days, no sleeping in or Holidays off, cows have to be milked every day, at least twice a day. Sure, it's a chosen profession, but it's not all that easy to leave it once you're in it.
I don't know whether to be impressed or disgusted. I love milk desperately, but those udders are so gross you must be out of your mind mister! I almost swore off the stuff altogether.

whats wrong with small teats, aslong as the unit sits on them, it does not matter.

What would you know. You are only a twelve year old boy. Wait till you achieve puberty. You'll know.

Your right she does have a slight forward tilt. She is dry now I might make another vid of her after she calves
holsteincowboy 3 years ago
she is a young cow and will easily grow out of that little tilt by 3 or 4 years old, looks like a long lasting cow
very nice

She had digital dermatitis on left rear foot when i shot this video which might explain her slight discomfort when moving around

Yikes! Digital dermatitis must be prevalent worldwide.

Could not find the quick hit stuff here. I use a white powder called linco spectin on the extreme cases

gethda 3 years ago
Teats look a little short, but VG is darn good, is this the first one to be classified?
Since selling the Ayrshire calf for $1600, we're wondering if maybe we should be classifying & going back on DHIA.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe the VEINS!
debstef 3 years ago
Well how else does blood flow in any living creature? BY VEINS.
Though I suppose it's a matter of opinion, and a mature attitude.
I like your cows, Holstein, they look well cared for :)

Well I dont really want to be mature. I'm going with the knee-jerk reaction of a city dweller. Please to be forgive

Over half my herd is scored VG or higher, and shed be one of the nicest animals in my barn.
