Amtgard swords are light and we don't take the Medieval thing quite as seriously. The fighting is faster, more technical and just as aggressive. Just no shield bashing or kicking. That being said, I do want to try Dag.

how thick are the cores you guys use?

Our cores are generally non-metallic graphite (golf club shafts) or .505 kite spar. PVC is still used and is legal but is generally discouraged for its weight and safety issues. Bamboo is also used but rarely, more for pole arms than anything else. Pole vault core is also used for pole arms.

Do a google search... all the boffers stemmed from Dagorhir, including the SCA boffer group, Amtgard started because the use of magic was disallowed in Dagorhir, Belegarth started because of some peoples desires to charge to play and other "attitudes" by individuals, the SCA version was to allow people without the resources to play in the heavy fighting rings...

I love Dagorhir, no groups in my area though. Amtgard is the most popular around here. But you can't ram the person with your shield. Dagorhir to me is better way of letting out your frustration. Though I love both I'm just that into this kind of stuff. Not the role playing though. bleh. I just want to hit ppl. lol

One thing alot of ppl compare Dag to is Role Models.....Apart from the design of the weapons, there is NO similarity. IN Role Models, their fighting was tap-fighting, most likely with plastic armour. This is full-contact, real metal or leather armour, and no politics, or nations, or storylines. Just fighting.

It's less of a roleplay and more of a martial-art, . Think about it, in Kendo or Kuk-Sool, you score points by striking certain areas. It's similar in Dag! And many players are married too

Um, I run a chapter and I tell alot of noobies to watch rolemodels to get a feel of what it's like in dag. Most people after watching a movie about something they want to do get pumped.

I did not see alot of tap fighting (if at all) and while no one has to make a back story alot of players do. They used alot of the rules that Dagorhir does in combat and while the movie did have magic no one uses it in the movie save for a plot device near the end. I don't think you watched it and if you have you are most likely just trying to defend off troll attacks. WHo cares?!?, There are guys who say football or baseball or even boxing is lame/gay.

Dagorhir is the best. Escape financial troubles and other modern worries to live in the Medieval ages from hours to days on end. Camps are the coolest though. You really do get the feeling of being a man at arms! :)

Actually, Amtgard spawned off Dagorhir when a disgruntled chapter-leader left and took his chapter with him. When it began, things like dagorhir were unheard of. The closest thing was battle-reenactment. Amtgard and belegarth both originally spawned from dagorhir, and Dagorhir was the oldest thing even close to live-action wargaming, LARP or anything of the sort.

Actually that's Belegarth. Amtgard was formed in 1983 by a guy in Texas. Bel was formed in 2001 when they branched from Dag in 2001.
