I think you could argue that Radiohead sometimes "over-refine" their songs. this version is better in my opinion than the album version, and also the song "lift"; the version of "lift" they did in Japan is so much better than later versions I've heard. I don't know if I should expect a hail of criticism for saying that, I just think they sometimes do too much to an already good song, and in the process bring it down a noch.
Yeah, Id say nude is another example. As much as I loved the album I was a little disapointed with Those two. You can't blame Radiohead for maybe getting a little tired of a certain version though, they play them so much
yeah i agree. they played jigsaw like this when i saw them in august. i found a new appreciation for the song, it was raw and much better than the album version. also, i never cared much for there there, until i heard it live. it FUCKING ROCKED. Radiohead is one of those bands that you fall in love with their albums, and then you worship them once you see them live. they're legendary :)
If you haven't figured it out by now, this song is now called "Jigsaw Falling into Place" and can be purchased on iTunes. It's off of their latest album, "In Rainbows."
when they play this live with thom on the old rickenbacher it sounds soooo fucking badass. I LOVE Jonny's sonic youth shredding at the end too, I really hope they ditch the acoustic when they tour this summer for this track.q
:P I remember I was the ONLY person I knew who really really liked 'open pick'. ;) I had faith in the song way back then so I take every oportunity to rub that in to 'em lol
I didn't realise you had to mosh to enjoy a gig. Maybe that's my problem. Maybe I have been wrong to stand there and just listen to the music. I have been living a lie. A dirty lie.
@sgtpinky i saw radiohead once for the hail to the theif tour and i just laid on the ground while everyone else stood and danced or whatever, but quite a few people asked my friends if i was ok, i just smikred and went back to enjoying and living the music.
No, Mr Echoes,it doesn't even come close to "nigger..." :) Too bad the studio version also doesn't come close to this live-masterpiece. I don't know why they changed it so much, getting all the punch out of it. Any chance of finding a well-recorded version of this concert? Oh, and Arpeggi too :)
so much? dude lok at Reckoner, it's not even the same song... this is pretty much the same. Good thing about Radiohead is how liquid their sound is. The only real trick is catching them, thanks youtube.
Well you have to remember, Radiohead's songs have three phases, pre-release live version, then there's the album version, then post-album version.
I do admit that I like the live pre-release version better :P But it sounds very professional on the album, just like somebody mentioned, Radiohead have a really clean liquid sound. That's definitely thanks to Nigel Godrich, he's their producer for albums and such. He is like the sixth Radiohead member. Greatest band of our time.
Thanks guys, great replies. I only started listening to Radiohead 2 years ago, so this is my first NEW album. Even with the old ones I went through the "WTF is this"-to-"this is the bes.. no wait, this is the best, no wait..." phase. Right now, the best is Bodysnatchers, no wait.. Nude :)
hey i'm american...well, i was gonna say don't hate on us americans, but seriously fuck america, its hard to find ANYONE to listen to radiohead with me.
i love the distribution method theyve gone with for this album, i only hope more bands start doing it to put an end to money grabbing record companies
Or scratch my own comment. I think they renamed it "Jigsaw falling into place." The ninth song on 'In Rainbows'. Just after House of Cards. And just before Videotape.

After listening to this clip about 50 times (and still counting) I think this is their best song yet. It's the most angry/energetic/desperate piece of music I've ever heard. It's "A wolf at the door" in full rock glory. All hail the new Paranoid Android..
I loved the clips of this, and the best one was the one that was reversed. It's got some vocal stuff by Thom that he doesn't do live, and Ed's vocals (as great as they are) are now strings. I loved it.
The clips of this song that were posted are really dissapointing compared to this. The sound seems completely watered down, not live, fat, raw and full of energy like this is. Those end bars are unbelievably amazing with johnny's guitar. It will be a crime against humanity if they aren't there.
if you havnt already go to their website an check out the very and i mean very tiny sample of things to come..theres tiny snippets of arpeggi an down is the new up
Just because it's been recorded doesn't mean it will definitly be on the album. Radiohead always has tons of B-sides, sometimes released with singles.
I think its similar of Arpeggi because of the drums... nearly the same rythm ( i said nearly, so dont fire up :p ), especially at the beginning, after i think its different.
yeah but come on...it is all of them. what would we do with out the other elements. Thom starts the songs, but the way radiohead interprets them is what makes them unique and great. on the other hand, i did love thom's solo album, but on a different level --almost like radiohead b-sides...

probably won't end up on the album... it does kinda boogie-along like the band's arrangement of Arpeggi, but damn what a great song this is. Like dark, sad surf music. And how it builds up, jus absolutely gleeful. It'd be cool if they used Arpeggi as the album opener and this as the closer, or somethin like that, give the album some kind of cohesiveness. there's no way they'd go back to pablo honey, thom himself has disowned that album. every new song ive heard so far is great, sounds like they've cut down on the electronica but haven't REALLY gone back to a previous sound. this'll be the best album since Kid A, and that's saying a lot. thom for primeminister
