  • How the hell is this pronounced??

  • Half of these boards are Morris boards of various numbers. There's even a Tic-Tac-Toe game. Granted, he does show a lot of different tafl variants, including Fox & Geese. And there's one board at the beginning that looks like Byzantine chess with either a bent backgammon board or a four player backgammon board around the border.

  • Maybe the Greeks invaded Norway and forgot to tell anyone. :) The Greeks did have a boardgame in which moves were done in a similar way. As did the Romans. These involved balanced sides and a balanced starting position, likely mimicking a skirmish in the open. (Tafl games seem to model an attack on a town or village.) There was a Celtic boardgame by the name of Gwyddbwyll, but nothing survives bar a few brief mentions in legends.

  • do u know how to play them

  • Well if you watch it, he does display -some- diagrams of Hnefatafl boards as well as some other "tafl" games, but it also includes diagrams of totally unrelated games like 9-man Morris.

  • Thought that Hnefatafl was a Scandinavian game played by the vikings.

  • a caso?

    a caso.

  • yes I think it is

  • Isn't a Hnefatafl Germany, as opposed to Greek?
