Shitty thing about Jay is he left Rodney hanging. Johnny at least was there to help the joke along. He knew he could laugh after. You've got to appreciate that Jay was a fan, but foremost he was a talkshow host and should have been a little more professional. He took away a lot from what could have been a great interview if he'd just kept a straight face.

Rodney is great but if you watch him at his best with Johnny Carson, you'll see that Johnny lets him do his thing without laughing (if he can help it). He tried to keep up the illusion that Rodney is being serious, whereas Jay laughs at every joke, making Rodney seem like a novelty in a way, something to be laughed at. Doesn't quite let him develop any of the jokes as much as they're meant to be.

Like Pinosen said, he truly is the king of one-liners.

What's awesome about Rodney was that he was absolutley hilarious right up until the end. So many comedians lose their stuff along the way, but not Rodney. That's just one of the many reasons he was the BEST.
