  • no video can pass this video this is the best video that i ever watched!!!!!

  • This song was the so wonderful. Can you compare this to the crap of today? HELL NO!

  • ............et une voix qu'on oublie pas........

  • Wow, the sound quality on this video is usually good. Nice.

  • Never has Richard looked more of a "bully". All them muscles intimidated sweet Karen, who's beautiful voice cryed out to us. Sadly we did not here her in time.

  • A great example of not just musical talent, but of what a brother and sister should be to each other.

  • lindo!

  • Did Karen beat the drums on most of her songs?

  • Yes..before 1974.

On this song...no......it's a session drummer named Jim Gordon.

  • She was the voice, but he was the musical master.

  • decada de 70, a mais criativa em termos musicais.belissima canção.

  • there never be another singer like karen carpenter, the best female ever, perhaps barbra straisand

  • perfection, just love this song and the video too : ) thanx for putting this on.

  • Wow, Karen was soooo beautiful in this clip!!

  • Makes me cry to think of what she was and what she could have been.

  • saudades,epoca maravilhosa!!!

    eramos felizes e nao sabiamos!

  • voice is so pure

  • pure velvet voice of an angel!

  • One of the most beautiful songs she ever recorded, and wonderful stereo sound - thank you for posting.

  • Nothing fancy here, just pure wonderful talent, she was humble and a down to earth human being, just wish she was here again with that beautiful voice.

  • Impressionante a qualidade do som e a voz impecavelmente perfeita da Karen... saudades!!

  • I just watched this video for the first time and just realized this was filmed at The Huntington Gardens in San Marino, CA. Great place!!!!!!!

  • perfect beautiful

  • :) this one of the best videos I've ever seen :) thanks for sharing :) KAREN IS SO BEAUTIFUL :)

  • musicas lindas,nao morrem,apenas ficam na memoria,valeu pela postagem

  • I swear to God that everytime I hear Karen's voice it's as if I'm listening to an angel sing...what a voice, what a song!

  • I agree my dad loathes RC,always saying how the group is actually called Karen Carpenter. He notes RC lack of success since her passing as the ultimate proof. I agree with Phil Ramone said that some of the label big wigs liked the album when they heard it in NY but once back in LA in front of the bigger wigs they dissed it. RC loved that! RC just couldn't face not being the only one to produce her voice. I agree too that after 1975 RC's production style wasn't the right fit for her anymore!

  • the bottom line is that this was not an affectionate family. I mean my family wasn't either but compared to Agnes&Harold,Richard we were the Brady's. I saw an old pic where Richard had his arm wrapped around the mom and Karen was standing by Harold. Harold didn't even put his arm around his daughter. She got more love from her fans and other celebrities. Damn shame!

  • i love the songs of the carpenters they're really gifted.....

  • In memory of a wonderful person who passed away Feb 4th 1983, miss you soooo much Karen, thanx for the music

  • linda melodia ... muita saudades!!!...

  • This is one of my favorite Carpenter songs-came out when I was in 9th grade...This footage was shot at the Huntington Botanical Gardens in Pasadena, California...The red Japanese "Moon Bridge" is still there. Now, over 35 years later...I still look for Karen as I walk past it...

  • I heard this on Smooth Radio today in my car and it reminded me of Me & You June my dear late wife who I'm missing so much! See you later xx

  • This is the voice... the voice of a true singer... It's a shame that Miss Karen Carpenter left us... The whole world is grieving at the loss of this amazing singer... Rest in Peace Miss Karen Carpenter...

  • a voice of an angel

  • it sad she die i was 11 when she die

  • that voice you are so right debpeelman

    judewhyte@ireland.com

  • that voice you are so right

    judewhyte@ireland.com

  • This is one of their best. How I feel about my husband. And, THAT voice! I miss you Karen.

  • yes, very good quality sound

  • God-- that low Eb Karen hits at the start is unreal! I can't think of any female that could pull that off... unbelievable talent.

  • I wish I could still hear this angelic voice singing today, but at least we still have her voice recorded....her voice is so comforting...

  • This song was popular, when I met my wife. I loved this song, because Yee (my wife) turned my whole life around , with her love. God bless you Karen. I will hear you singing in heaven.

  • música que retrata o melhor momento da minha vida , é simplesmente demais .... tank you

  • Correct me if I am wrong....but it seems to me that Karen was THE TALENTED ONE of the two....her brother appears to be bored or something when he is pretending to sing and you don't fold your arms in a video....his manner does NOT even equal Karen's ability as an artist. RIP Karen....a rare treasure!!!

  • @chazrjr I think Karen still has the purest voice of all time....no other artist even comes close regarding singing ability....Karen has the voice of an angel and now she is singing with the angels....RIP Karen!!!

  • super great song by karen.. love this song so much..

  • Wonderful clear natural voice, very few can match her talent.

  • Good bye karen..............

  • ...Since I threw my sandwich away...only yesterday...

  • one and only Karen x

  • This is the best audio quality on you tube. Wish you would post more songs.

  • @markgaw1 the Audio quality is awesome...the best I have heard on Youtube

  • they SHOULD be in the ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME :)

  • There are several reasons why they are likely not in the Hall Of Fame. Visiting Nixon didn't help. I'm much more of a Karen than a Richard fan as, from what I've gathered through various writings on them, are most people. But you can't put one in and not the other. It's a "dirty old shame" that Karen didn't get a chance at a solo career. If anybody belongs in the Hall of Anything, it's Karen Carpenter.

  • @improvguru What a load of HORSE SHIT, visting NIXON? Get your head on straight dipshit.

  • @yusoupoff I'll choose to take a page from the Karen Carpenter Book Of Class and not use worse language to respond to you. If you could read past a grade two level, you'd have noticed that I listed it only as a possibility. Did you read the whole post or is that too hard for you? There are many reasons why they're not in. Want to discuss them or do you prefer to trade insults? You won't beat me if that's your game.

  • @rematpac I'm sorry, but I disagree. Karen just as driven as Richard was when she began her music career, and she won the top music award upon high school graduation. She was far more talented than Richard was, and she was always the draw. She would have had a superb career on her own (everybody wanted her to guest on their albums). Her solo album was fine, better than Carpenters albums of that time and later. it was her attempt to be free, and the "boys" weren't about to let that happen.

  • @rematpac Karen was 16 and 17 on her early career. She certainly did not fail. Have you listened to the songs? Her voice and drumming are unbelievable. Pick up a copy of "Little Girl Blue." It's very clear that Karen was Richard's equal at an early age. Yes, she has denied her Magic Lamp sessions, to appease Richard and carry on the myth that he was God and the only reason for her success. He wasn't even allowed in the studio where the recordings took place.

  • @rematpac "Little Girl Blue" is the biography of Karen written by Randy Schmidt, not the song. In it, we discover that Karen was NOT independent as much as we think. She was raised to believe that she was Richard's back up and that he was God. Karen's solo album was fine until Richard got his hands on it. It wasn't about him; it was hers. We learn that he called her album "s**t". After 1975, in my opinion, Richard did not make Karen sound better.

  • @rematpac Richard did NOT bring Karen's songs up to Carpenters standards. Her solo album is far superior to "Made In America," "A Kind Of Hush," and "Lovelines." besides, the album was about her breaking free of Richard's clutches and doing her own thing for once more than it was about the music. Read "Little Girl Blue" for details on how Richard and A & M decided that they would not like the album. Richard was afraid of Karen leaving him. He wrote Karen's early "failed" songs, as well.

  • @rematpac Karen couldn't break free of her family's clutches. It's complicated, I know, but she didn't have it in her. She wouldn't even do her album without Richard's blessing, and it took six months of begging before he finally gave her permission. She wanted to cancel her wedding when she found out her fiancee lied to her but her mother wouldn't let her. Her best option was actually to stop working altogether and try to get well, but we know she didn't do that.

  • @rematpac Her husband told her a lot of lies, but the biggie was that he told her that he had had a vasectomy. He knew that Karen wanted children more than anything and he had months to tell her. Karen received no support from Richard, by the way. All he's done is pay Karen's husband to keep his mouth shut about the marriage.

  • @rematpac Karen was very heart sick at this point in her life, due mainly to her brother trashing her solo album. She was also admitting her problem and seeking treatment. I think she saw this as a last ditch attempt to save herself. She was beautiful again at around the time of her wedding, but went downhill for good after a few months.

  • @improvguru it,s hard to believe her mother still wanted her to marry this loser, shame she never found what she was looking for.

  • Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, could touch Karen Carpenters Voice. She and Richard made one of the Greatest Musical Groups ever to record Music. Her Voice was a rare gift. When she sang, her haunting angelic golden voice, just pierces straight through you. Karen sang with absolute innocence, from her heart, and from such depth.!!

I will be forever grateful to have grown up listening to the Carpenters, since 1970. Karen Carpenter will forever be a part of my life. Rest in Peace Karen.

  • Her voice was so devine

  • Wow, I'm not familiar with this one.

Karen Carpenter had one of the most perfect voices I have ever heard. It's a shame they are simply considered "cheesy".

  • The thing I really like about The Carpenters is the echoing vocals in their music it just sends chills and goosebumps up my spine.

  • Wow.

    What a song.

I wish music today was that good.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill it's not music anymore george it's entertainment...there are no musicians out there today that are relevant...sad as it is. the weirder you can make yourself look, or show up naked some place. you are then given a mic and made into a star...

  • Beautiful song. I thought I recognized the location of the video. It's Huntington Library. I used to catch frogs under that red bridge at the Japanese Gardens.

  • from what i've read Richard wasn't so much confident that this song will top the hit chart but then it did... This is really great :) Carpenters forever :)

  • So Nice, I have to play this twice.

  • Richard did this one right with Karen's voice. That low alto at its finest in this song!

  • I love the lyrics. Love the musical arrangement. Outstanding.

  • One of their VERY best songs.

  • los mejores recuerdos de estas estrellas con esas voces inolvidables- jaime flores rojas de turmero aragua venezuela( actualmente tengo 60 años)

  • This band was remarkable. They were just the sound of the 70 s

  • @john61ish You need help! , in my country (UK) this is called slander and is again,st the law .Richard Carpenter could sue you for millions and take everything you have (if you have anything that is) .Not only are you happy with slagging off a person who has past away you seem to get pleasure from doing it to the living too , why don,t you go on to channels you like? .

  • @john61ish your a loser GOD HELP YOU

  • @john61ish You must be reminiscing about your family reunion. I hear your family tree doesn't fork.

  • @john61ish

wtf do you think you talking about. You know nothing. If you dont like it then go listen to some crap music instead of this and just stop making a fool of yourself.

  • When I feel sad I listen to The Carpenters reminds me of when I was a very young child and the good times back then

  • i never get tired of hearing karen carpenters beautiful rich voice

  • so perfect - good music never dies

  • I love this song! karens voice was so pure and beautiful!

  • I watch this two or three times a month; what a beautiful voice, Karen always brings me back to how beautiful life really is...God Bless this Angel of Eternity!

  • great video thanks for posting! :)

  • I agree with you! They were the very best of the 70s!

  • Another piece of perfection by the Carpenters

  • She was starting to get very sick at around this time but you sure wouldn't know it to hear her. One of her best performances, and that's saying a lot.

  • she was one of the all time grates I'm just glad to have been born in this era

  • an angel is back in heaven,RIP Karen, you were beautiful in sight and in sound x

  • BEAUTIFUL ALWAYS BEAUTIFUL, ON THE4TH i WILLHAVE MISS HER FOR 27 YEAR AS SOME HAS SAID " ASTAR ON EARTH A STAR IN HEAVEN" BEAUTIFUL THANX

  • Fantastic, one of Richars bext songs. I always loved the songs where they both sang. That was the Carpenters sound to me. A great a singer as Karen was you can't beat that blend of Carpenter vocal harmoney

  • This has got to be my favorite Carpenter song. The harmony is so soothing.

  • In my own time nobody knew

The pain I was goin' through

and waiting was all my heart could do

    Sadly prophetic, in retrospect

  • super tomboy. *sigh*

  • Ive been into music allmy life and can headbang to nirvana and smooch along with the Beach Boys with equal impunity. I never ever heard anyone criticizing the voice of Karen Carpenter, its so sweet and so lush as to be above normalmoans, and also its easy to overlook the part Richard played in the overall sound--all the oooohs and ahhhs heavy with overproduction and adding to the lush sound were his doing---this is maybe my favourite Carpenters song--for taday

  • wHOLESOME,HARMONIC,and entertaining.

  • Karen's vocal range never ceases to amaze me, a beautiful voice, a beautiful person!

  • Yes I was lucky indeed. I share your feelings of joy and sadness whenever I play their music.

  • who among them is richard and who is karen?

  • Hmm?...I think the male with shorter-hair and a penis must be Richard and the female with the longer hair and a vagina must be Karen....ya think??? You're either fucking stupid or sarcastic.....or both.

  • @CLARENCE1958 how can you be so sure that the one with the short hair has a penis and the long hair with vagina? have you seen them naked? unless thats proven it will always remain an assumption

  • Well, even if it were the other way around, I know for a fact that Richard has the short hair, and Karen has the longer hair, and I can see we're both hungry for attention here!!...I guess you have a point though!!.. I think you would be a lot of fun to talk to in person!! (hehehe!)

  • @CLARENCE1958 sorry bout that but im only being brutally objective here coz there are males with long hair and girls with short ones. so unless theres real proof at hand we can never tell.

  • @leklek69 dumbass

  • how can a no nonsense philosophical question make me a dumbass, cunthead?? how can you be o sure that karen indeed had a vagina and richard a penis?? have youever seen them both naked??

  • @leklek69 ..do i need to reply to this brainless observation..better not....go fuck yourself...

  • I was lucky enough to see The Carpenters live in London back in the 70's. have ALWAYS been a huge fan. Never been a better vocalist the Karen.....such a tragic loss to music.

  • You were a lucky SOB! Congrats! And I couldn't agree more - Karen was the best female vocalist of all time, IMHO.

  • One of Carpenters' best songs.

  • This is a great song! What happen to love songs like this. Karen had such a wonderful voice. This songs makes me sing it even when i'm not in the mood to sing. All their songs are great. There will never go away ! Just like my sons passing away in Sept. 20, 2008. My sons love will never go away and his memory. We all miss you John, only yesterday you was here with us. tears, tears.....

  • love this song! So positive. Karen has such a beautiful voice. She's an angel now in Heaven.

  • ....locations taped at Huntington Library in San Marino, near Pasadena....

  • no way! really? In San Marino ??

  • ...Richard claimed that he and John Bettis wanted to write a song to 'appeal to the average dollar holder' or something to that effect. As it turns out, they created one of the finest pieces of pop music in history. Everything about this song is perfect. To everyone, check out the album version clocking in at 4:10. I swear that if the longer version had been released as a single it would have not stopped at #4 but would have gone all the way to #1.

  • Hi earcandy2008. I tried clicking on your link 4:10, but nothing happens. Can you suggest another way for me to get to that video? I would LOVE to hear the longer version!

  • didn't anyone hear just how sad this amazing woman was?

  • Ive said it once and Ill say it again. THIS song is the best written and sung song in the world. some of these so called new groups should learn from the carpenters

  • The team of Richard Carpenter and John Bettis wrote this song which frames Karen's vocal tallents so well. They capitalized on the brilliance of Karen's lower vocal register at the start of this song which was to be the last top 10 hit for the Carpenters -- this song is one of their best

  • @kevinvisaman nice words but Calling occupants was their last top 10 single a year later.

  • My Faverite Carpenter song! Karen was music's shooting star, for a brief moment we witnessed her amazing vocal talent... she passed into the horizon way too soon!

  • This song has made me cry, it's so beautiful
